Welcome to FPL is live 2020/21

It’s time to set your team up, re-join leagues and get tinkering! Although it’s worth noting that the actual Premier League fixtures are still to be released and likely won’t be until after the Champions League and Europa League have completed.

For FPL the biggest change appears to be the deadline changing to 90mins before kick-off – seemingly in an attempt to combat those annoying and often false team leaks.

The Chips have remained the same as has the budget of 100mln.

The biggest changes seem to have come in player prices and in some cases, classification. Some of the more obvious changes at first glance are:

Players now classed as midfielders:
Aubameyang (Arsenal) – price 12.0mln
Greenwood (Man Utd) – price 7.5mln
Rashford (Man Utd) – price 9.5mln
Lundstram (Sheff Utd) – price 5.5mln

Players now classed as forwards:
Richarlison (Everton) – price 8.0mln
Martial (Man Utd) – price 9.0mln
Antonio (West Ham) – price 6.5mln

New players:
Midfielders:
Ziyech (Chelsea) – price 8.0mln
Forwards:
Werner (Chelsea) – price 9.5mln

Good luck with the tinkering and please post your thoughts, comments and plans on the chat below.

Ok that’s the GW1 draft rubbish out of the way. It’s time to think about chip tactics. I reckon FH29 and TC26.

Really worried about 18&19. Hope they extend the first WC to half way. If they don’t I might end up WC16 and also WC18/19

My current problem in my team is I really want Foden but I can’t fit him in. I think he’s a great price

    • 86.1

Is he worth it if he makes just 50% of starts?

      • Smash says:

I think he will feature in every game. For City I think that’s good enough for that price. Some one pointers and some 15

        • Smash says:

I basically think he’s in the same bracket for starts as Mahrez, Aguero, Jesus, BSilva

        • lamderek says:

hard to tell how he fits in at the moment, he was touted as david silva replacement, but the only position he played at end of last season was to cover sterling and mahrezs role. He wasn’t even used when city had to chase the game against lyon. so still a slight wait and see how much he will be feature as a starter i think

      Stone Frog says:

Something along these lines may work if you want a big 3 plus Fodden in a 3-5-2?

      • Smash says:

That’s pretty close to what I have. I have Greenwood in the Foden position currently

        • Stone Frog says:

Yep the choice I’m weighing up is Salah plus 2 4.5 def or Greenwood plus Robertson and Doherty. I prefer the stronger defense. You could lose a premium for Foden and use the cash?

        • Smash says:

I think Vinagre and 1.5 beats Doherty personally. I think he keeps up anyway but obviously behind. I’d prefer to use the saving on that: Robbo is different as he prob outscores a lot of the mid priced midfielders.

    • 86.3
      Stone Frog says:

Fodden scored about 7pts per 90 minutes last season, which is fantastic. It’s just you will need a decent first bench option for when he’s benched. But at that price you still win overal.

      • Smash says:

I think Foden features every week tbh. I don’t see him missing out completely much; Robbo in a 4-4-2 is ok

        • Kralin says:

Maybe compromise on Van Dijk instead – same price as your chum Foden and currently in twice as many teams. May not be much difference between them, points wise, come the end of the season.

I started playing around a bit last night and weirdly have both Doherty and Vinagre in my side. My pulse picked up when I heard Vinagre is a wing-back.

        • Smash says:

Yeah funny you should say that I’m not completely ruling out Doherty so doubling up with the Wolves wing backs. I have fairly good idea how my team will look. I’m just waiting on fixtures and transfers for a few positions now. If Brewster moves on loan think I’d be ok playing him most weeks as well. That will save me cash or give me a decent back up.

        • Smash says:

VVD and Robbo maybe a bit too expensive we shall see. If it don’t work out there’s not many options to jump off there though they are pretty consistent anyway tbf

        • Kralin says:

Yes – I have that Davis geezer who hopefully Brewster will turf out of position. Fingers crossed.

I like Antonio’s price and will decide between Ings/Jiminez/Richarlison* depending on fixtures.

Haven’t quite given up on Kane but it’ll be him or Bruno and the latter’s ownership can’t really be ignored.

          * have Werner in at the moment

        • Smash says:

Yeah and he might even go out on loan. Yeah I like Antonio’s price I don’t mind Mitrovic either. I’m currently seeing that as the lowest priority position if that makes sense. I’ve not ruled out Kane depends on those Spurs fixtures. He’s a good price point as you have Aguero and can downgrade to Werner. I currently have Werner and Greenwood over Kane and Foden for example. I quite like the Ziyech punt as well but can’t fit him in easily currently. Think I’m set on KDB, Bruno and Salah as my premiums and amount of premiums for that matter

        • Kralin says:

Those three premiums are very hard to avoid because of their very high ownership. KdB is currently in >60% of sides and Bruno >40%. Not starting with them seems a tad risky.

        • Smash says:

Yeah I don’t see much in it with Sterling and KDB in general but I think KDB is 60% owned while Sterling is less than 10%

      bees393 says:

I worry about Werner (ex Leipzig). You probably saw them today in CL. Toothless. Werner scored a lot but it was Bundesliga not PL. Think I will may him out and have a somewhat decent team and see how it goes.

      • Kralin says:

In the main I tend to avoid new players to the prem. I have him in my side as a sort of luxury placeholder as he’s close enough in price to Kun and Kane and can drop back to Jiminez or Ings easily.

If Chelsea’s fixtures are poor I’ll ponder.

      • Smash says:

I’m less worried. German league is fairly strong. Abraham missed I think it’s 27 big chances last season so the supply is there and he’s more clinical than him with the amount of goals he’s scored. Chelsea will score goals next season with Werner, Ziyech, Pulisic, Mount and Havertz providing the service for Werner. Yeah there’s the risk he’s new to the league but he should get the chances to score. At 9.5 that’s a decent enough price

      • Bees, I wouldn’t worry about Werner. He was so happy joining Chelsea that declined to play the rest of the Leipzig games in UCL. He will be perfectly fine and I expect him to have great start.

      • bees393 says:

        Thanks guys…appreciate the insights.

    Welcome back everyone.

    Its your friendly worrier here…lol

What a nightmare with the new player changes…… will they revert back or are they here to stay?

Well, here is my first draft team. What are your thoughts on it?

    • 88.1
      Kralin says:

I doubt they’ll magically revert back – you may have to wait until 21/22 or invent your own version of the game that’s for ever 20/21.

I’m adopting a no RMT approach until the end of time the fixtures materialise but I think it’s sensible to start with those three big hitters in mid.

For all that my jaw dropped when I didn’t see Antonio in your side. He seems a pretty good price.

Get a 4m goalie (to replace Ryan) and save yerself some pence.

      • hammerfan_lm says:

        Kralin, agreed.

I do want to put Antonio in my team, but as you say, I want to see what the fixtures are going to be like first before i make any more changes to my team. Some of what I have could have a tough run so will ditch.

    Elleffcee says:

I’ve had a dabble with this lot. Wan Bis can be any 5.5 defender depending on fixtures. Forget the line up aswell.

  6. 90
    Stone Frog says:

A great 3-5-2. Plenty of options. Wan-B to another 4.5 and St-Maxim to Foden is another way to cut it or VVD instead. I think I will end up with something similar.
