Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2016-17

FPL is finally open and ready for business and so are we with a new edition of Bore Off. This will only be one of the many articles we will try and bring you over the coming weeks, all leading to GW1 and the beginning of another season. For any new members we welcome you to the site and we hope you enjoy this article. For the veterans, you know the drill. Cookie (United fan) hates Liverpool, Init (Everton fan) hates Liverpool and Kop (Liverpool fan) hates Liverpool. Think that is a fair assessment of all three. Well ok, having seen the prices and some of the options I have called back The Three Amigos from their summer vacation to get some early observations from them for questions that many of us are wondering about.
Who should we turn to at City? Is Cesc worth considering? And Giroud…of course, don’t matter what the question is about, it’s Giroud. So without further ado, let us get to our question and answer segment quickly so we can let Cookie go back to watching Love Island and complaining about Theo being out.

Apologies for putting the cart before the horse, but I just saw where Joe Hart to West Ham is all but a done deal. Add? Avoid? Any guess what his price would be? I would imagine he would be cap friendly and the .5 mil(?) or so savings could be useful to strengthen another position.

In a word: bore off. Ok, those are two words but you get the point. On a more serious note I guess we need to know which WestHam we’ll have this year, the one from last year that leaked goals everywhere or the one from the previous season? I think they have the personnel to do well and probably the right manager too but we need to make sure this is a thigh side here. Otherwise, avoid.

Yeah bet he’s 5 million. West Ham even when they are playing well concede goals plus you can even get Cresswell who has strong attacking returns for 5 million

      • Biggest problem last season was no right back, Cresswell LB injured, then the CBs injured, new signings being pants and Collins not able to cope as the main man.
Zabaleta signed up and most defenders back from keeping Carroll company, should be a lot more solid there.
They might even have worked out what size the pitch is now too. They should so have painted it smaller last year.

Thought Randolph was a more than decent GKP so not sure why Harts so needed.

@Gene, that’s a no for me. His fixtures are not great. 4 of the first 5 are away and the sixth game is Spurs at home, sounds like a recipe for trouble. Plus he is not that good. smile

Thanks boys, for the replies. Think I’ll pass on Hart for now and stick with what I have.

Cheers for another GOBO, always a highlight! Still tinkering, few questions for everyone :
    1- Azpi & Foster or Courtouis & Lindelof ?
2- Fabregas/Willian or spend for Pedro (for first 6 gw or so) ?
3- Gayle, JRod, or Deeney ?

I would prefer Courtois and Lindelof.

Personally Pedro but the other two may be ok. Check pre-season games now Bakayoko has signed.

Quite like Gayle’s chances. Looks a bit of a natural at times.

      I’ll give this ago
Courtois and Lindelhof. United coverage is a lot better than West Brom. If Azpil starts playing WB that may change.

This is really tough if Fabregas gets the game time he tends to get points. If Chelsea sign a quick striker like Auba you would expect him to get a lot of assists. I don’t think the Monaco guy will be fit from the start and may take time to adjust. Pedro blows hot and cold but does tend to get goals. Willian a good player but his performances have never really transferred to points.

I’d pick Gayle he gets goals, J Rod had not done it for a very long time but if he’s hot in pre season yeah worth considering. Not sure on Deeney or Watford for that matter. I think Berahino is worth monitoring as well as he’s only 6 million

Cheers for the replies fellas. Currently on Azpi/Foster/Willian & Gayle…. but I’m sure that won’t last!

Been having a look through the £4.0m defenders. Not much joy. Can anyone give any background on why Hünemeier played towards the end of last season for Brighton? noticed that he was injured and benched a lot to begin with. An injury to another defender perhaps?
