Grab, Avoid or Bore-off!

Grab, Avoid or Bore-off! – FPL Fantasy Football Premier League

Photo 01-05-2014 00 42 50To help you decide or just confuse you a bit more, we have asked 3 of our writers to pass judgment on what players are needed for this double game-week and what players are better left out of the fray. We hope this is a simple straight forward formula that can assist you in your decision making as we near the dead line.

Grab – You need this player on your squad. On the Def/Keeper categories if they select Grab, they will give us a name or two from said team. Eg. Grab-De Gea

Avoid – It’s a trap don’t get suckered in.

Bore off – If you have him play him, if you don’t have him don’t bother getting him. Really not worth the extra effort.

provided Pellegrini says Silva is in with a shot of playing on Saturday I think I will line up as follows:

    Mannone(Boruc)
    Azpi/Demi/Bruce(Ward)(Parr)
    Silva/Ramsey/Mata/Eriksen/(Coldback)
    Rooney/Suarez/Aguero….

    0FT and 0ITB

I like the thoughts on Amalfitano, seems divided. I guess Ill just play him over Erik then this DGW.

Are we all trying to shape our teams with the following template then? Or is someone going a bit different?

Template, seems like, is as follows:

    GK: Mannone
Def: City – Chelsea – Hull / some non DGWer
    Mid: Yaya/Silva – Mata – Ramsey – Erik
FWD: Aguero – Rooney – Suarez

Pretty close for me B after transfers. Can’t afford Kun so I’ve got Wickham. Unfortunately my Hull bench fodder is Bruce. Should I play Bruce over Coleman? I’m guessing no?

      Andy says:

Not so sure on that, given recent injuries + blank GW’s I’d be very surprised to find a team that isn’t missing at least one of Yaya+Silva/Mata/Aguero/Rooney/Suarez unless they’ve taken some kind of big hit. I think that teams more of a template of what people would want. I’m not having Yaya this GW as I don’t think he’ll justify taking a -12.

      • daboyo says:

        Hi Andy

Ya I myself have Silva/Mata/Rooney and Aguero……to get in Yaya would result in a hit and tbh if Silva has a chance of playing a part in both games or just the second game im slow to go taking a hit to offload him…..
Same applies to defenders…..I wouldn’t be quick to take a hit to offload a defender for a City defender unless I knew the player I was shipping out wasn’t going to play or he didnt have a hope of a CS…

        • Andy says:

Silva looks to be the catch-22 player this GW as it’s highly doubtful he’ll play both games in the double but on recent form he’s been the best player in the EPL (When he’s not injured).

      • Andy you can’t justify a -12 but perhaps you can justify 3 different -4 hits and that would be the way you could justify bringing in Yaya. For instance Mata in for Gerrard if you feel that is worth it than we are down to a -8. Kompany in for Coleman if you think that is worth it than we are down to a -4 etc..etc. If I can find 4 transfers that I think are positive moves for my team and I think are likely to produce more points on each separate move, I be willing to contemplate it. In particular if you are grabbing a DGW player since you are basically only taking half a hit and not the full 4. Risk vs reward is the game this week.

        • Andy says:

That’s sort of how I’ve playing it as of late Mito, this will be my eighth week in row with a -4 around my neck as I’ve been trying to build a squad around the late DGW’s without a WC, what would be interesting is to find a bunch of regular hitters and find out whether or not we’ve either helped or hindered our teams by taking constant hits.

I’ll have a tally back through my latest transfers later on and see whether or not it was actually worth it.

        • Andy one could do that, but it would not be an genuine indication. I took 192 points worth of hits last season and finished 12K and that is after really screwing myself in the last 2 GWs, otherwise 5K was on the cards. This season I have taken about half of that and I sit 32K. It was my hits working time after time last season that allowed to climb from the horrible hole I dug myself and it was my hits that ended my chances in the last 2 weeks of finishing 5K. I think that with time what you will find that hits will work, but you have to be smart about them. For instance this week if someone takes a hit to bring in Wickham for Suarez and then next week takes a hit to bring Suarez back in for Wickham, well then that is really a -8 and if by chance Suarez outscores Connor in GW37 then you really screwed the pooch. But on the other hand if you make the move and you leave the money behind to bring in Suarez next week for free, that is a different story. That might just work. The conclusion I have come to is that don’t be afraid of hits, but don’t just take them out of the blue make sure you have a plan before and after. Many of us who tend to take hits find ourselves trying to erase mistakes from a hit the week prior, getting caught in a web of transfers in and then right back out for another hit. Better planning gives you the best of both worlds. Keeping your hard earned points by not taking unnecessary hits but also not being a manager who refuses to take them even when it is obvious it is the right move. Most hits can be avoided and if you look through your transfers the week or two before you will see where you might have missed an opportunity. Having said all that, I will now look to see where I can get a -12 at this week. Because I am a poor planner and frankly I get a high from taking hits. :hippo:

        • Andy says:

Pleasantly surprised to find I’ve more than doubled my tally with my transfers in outscoring my transferred out by 48 – 25. Even by subtracting injuries and blank GW players my transferred in’s win by 42 – 25. In other totally irrelevant news I’ve just realized that it’s highly unlikely we’ll be starting next season with a DGW.

        • Andy says:

Meh I really should hit refresh once in a while before hitting reply, I see your talking yourself into the Whickham for Suarez bracket smile , another added bonus for hits is they do make a GW that little bit more exciting.

    1) Sterling or 2) AJ for the DGW?

Any reason why Yaya isn’t moving on totalfpl? Looks like 10K+ have brought him in today but it’s not updating his progress….

He already rose 0.3 for the week. He’ll rise next on Saturday night after the accumulated transfers over the week.

So is anybody contemplating taking Suarez out for Wickham for the Dgw ?? smile

      Josh721 says:

Yep I’m considering it. That would be the only way I can afford both Yaya and Mata.

    • 30.2
      The B says:

Nop. Suarez will score big against Newcastle, and losing him and then buying him back will just be a problem.

Id rather keep my team stable for the last GW to hold on to my leads in the leagues. But if you are chasing, then it does sound like an interesting strategy.

      • Josh721 says:

Interesting. I’m leading in 2 of my mini leagues by about 30 points, so I’m hoping to keep that lead. I do plan to get him back in for the last GW in place of Rooney.

    • 30.3

I am also Brooky, but only if I am sure I can bring him in for free next week or I decide that I am ok with not having him next week. It would be bloody stupid to get in Wickham for Suarez for a hit one week and take another hit to exchange back next GW. Not sure Connor is worth a -4 considering who we would be dropping, but I am sure as hell sure he is not worth a -8. If we get it wrong we will become the story everybody laughs at next season, can see it now…. ” Remmeber all them fools who sold Suarez for Wickham last season? ” HAHAHA!! I sold Lukaku GW38 last season for a hit and frankly I am still scarred. sad

      • Josh721 says:

But is it worth it to fund another move? Say, Mirallas to Mata?

      • Sharmaisms says:

Well Lukaku did start on the bench for that one Mito…

And no one could predict a hattrick!

        • Sharmaisms, it doesn’t matter that scar is still there. I got Luka when no one was still buying, I didn’t sell when everyone was and I captained him a couple of times when nobody would. To give up minutes before the last dead line and sell him was just painful. I had earned that hat-trick!! 😉 Is like Mata last week, I don’t bring him in and go for Kagawa because I feel that Kagawa will start and Mata will be on the bench. I was so happy when I was proved right and when Kagawa got the assist I was even happier and then Mata comes in for 30 minutes and destroys my GW. sad I sold Lukaku in the right, was sure he wouldn’t start vs United and then he got in….and I got my ass :hippo:

        • Sharmaisms says:

The next time you feel someone is going to get benched.. let us know!

I want all of AJ’s points considering how useless he has been for me. Just 10 points this week and i’ll be happy.

      • brookyboy says:

Ha ha mito.Yes it could either be a masterstroke or humiliation if Suarez gets a hattrick at palace though i cant see it.It sure is tempting though and i would bring him straight back in for the Newcastle game with no hit involved, but i also want Sterling for that game which would involve a hit.Does that count ? Having said that i also remember liverpools last game of the season last year against an already relegated Q.P.R and how we all scrambled to get pool players only for the game to finish 0-0 !!
