Guess who’s back, back again….

With the fpl season getting closer and closer to starting, it is of course time for Bore Off to also kickoff. I have gathered the three originals, as is tradition for each first edition of the new season. As always a new season brings new hope. Hopefully this article helps a little, but not too much.

Looking back through the first Bore Off from last season, I noticed that the Amigos had many things right. All 3 had Salah as the first person in their team sheet, they were all for the LFC double up in midfield with Mane, which would have worked out well for any manager who did. Cookie and Kop were talking about a back four and in Cookie’s case he was talking up a 5 back. Cookie was ahead of his time! Init had his eye on Milivojevic and Cookie said this “Mili is obviously great for a penalty every time Zaha falls over”. Kop talked about a possible golden boot for Auba and was hopeful that Allison would sign for LFC.

Hopefully they can replicate some of their good calls for this upcoming season, let’s see what they have to say.

  1. I have been tinkering around for a couple weeks since I last posted and this is where I am at. I have read a bunch here where many think Kelly won’t start so I will monitor that and adjust as needed. Also I am not sold on Fab as my lock an load GK this season but I don’t know who to pick in the 5.0 range. A penny for your thoughts….

    • Maybe look at Schmeichel,Foster or Patrichio and swap them as needed. Adam Smith could replace Kelly for 0.5 more and Bou have good fixtures apart from City in GW 3.

    • You’ve over-egged the midfield and forwards to the extent that your bench will be top-heavy. I’d downgrade either a mid or forward and use the money to get a City defender.

      Personally I’d have a look at Pulisic before taking the plunge: someone like Fraser could be your handy Pulisic placeholder.

      I’d start with TAA over VVD.

  3. Evening everyone! I’m away from the world of FPL lately and probably won’t get a proper chance to do research, so going off my gut I’ve finally done a proper draft.

    Rip this apart as you all have probably actually done research! Haha

    I’m thinking of Sterling to Bilva to upgrade defenders or King.

    • Not a fan of Ake. You could even go with Smith and Digne instead. Team looks pretty solid

      • Cheers Smash. How are you mate? I wasn’t too sure on Ake either but couldn’t be sure on what 4.5 Bou def was going to play. Might do that change actually.

        • Ake’s as sound as a pound. Second highest scoring defender last season (well, joint second-highest). Absolutely nailed. Perfect placeholder either up or down with those fixtures.

          I’m saddened about the lack of love for him.

        • 5 million for a Bournemouth defender is steep that’s why

        • I’m using him as a placeholder Smash – one who can move either up to one of the Everton / Chelsea /Man U people or down to wherever. The rest of my defence is City and Liverpool.

          I’m not seeing him as long-term – very much a smash(sic) and grab (I hope) placeholder for the tricky first fortnight.

        • Cheers lads I kind of agree with Kralin and was thinking along the same lines as he is more being brought in for the good run of fixtures.

    • I may be wrong but I reckon Lundstrom & Greenwood are traps.

      • You’re probably right. We all thought Peltier would start last season. But what to do? Aim for at least one certain starter and tidy the rest up via FT / wildcard. I’m hoping Greenwood graces us from the bench now and then.

        • I’d want at least 2 certain starters on my bench, but I’m very conservative!

        • I’m very conservative as well but got away with it last year, just.

          Current ballache for me is the Burnley goalkeeper crisis.

      • Think they will both get the odd set of points but you won’t be able to rely on either. Tarks benched tonight in what looks like Burnley full strength is interesting for Gibson though he’s injured currently

        to be fair they are 8.5 combined, so not sure calling them a trap is the right word, more like they are what their price says they are.

      • I’d say they are traps but Greenwood might get the odd minutes I haven’t a clue about Lundstrom though. This team will likely change I’m sure!

      • Kop I thk Lunds will start he’s been playing well had the second most minutes & only one friendly left made 3 assists basically a def MF player I would put money on him starting if you want hehe

        Greenwood I don’t thk will start but will be played as a sub this year

        I’m also keeping an eye on Rico he has a lot of minutes & Gibson

  4. Evening guys. Can someone do me a favour? For various reasons I’m taking a sabbatical on FPL this season. Can one of the regulars pass the message on to Elle… and anyone else involved in organizing the regulars leagues / H2H leagues etc? I don’t want to go Pettit anyone down by not showing up.
    Good luck to everyone. I may well check in here and there – and I’m hopeful I’ll be back next season. Enjoy!

    • Cheers guys. I’m fine. Just need to weigh up my priorities and I know I can’t play FPL without being 100% addicted! My choice is mostly due to health reasons (which I won’t bore you with), but I’m also expecting my first nipper in 6 weeks, plus got shitloads going on at work, and if that wasn’t enough, I’m starting an MBA in September too. I’ll sure I’ll be on here in a few weeks regretting my decision!!!!

      • Sounds like plenty of reasons and all sound more important than FPL. Congrats on the little one and hopefully your health stuff is not too serious.

        Maybe just set up a solid team and let run and it’s there if you feel the urge in a few weeks!

      • Might as well set up a team for game week one in case you change your mind haha

      • Banjo, stick a team in. Trust me on this, in 6 weeks or so you’ll be looking for something to do whilst spending hours of your life lying on the floor next to a cot either waiting for the baby to go to sleep or wake up. And that’ll last for about 2 years. If you’re lucky!

      • Banjo! Take Init’s advice here mate. Those family/work/health stressful times are exactly the ones where you’ll need your distractions most. I know FPL can be stressful too but you’ll always have us for some banter and that’s more fun if you have a team in. Besides, you’re the Banjo maker and we need our banjo times!

  6. Pope still injured as Heaton starts again tonight

    • That is a headache I could do without.

      • They have one game left I’m thinking Heaton is first choice. Pope stuff has only come from the Heaton rumours

        • Fingers crossed. What a disaster it would be to start GW1 without a keeper. Have switched to Heaton based on tonight’s line-up.

        • Yeah if Heaton starts again in the last friendly it should be fine. If Pope suddenly gets a game I’m avoiding. Though avoiding might be sensible

        • I’ve just cautiously moved it back to Ryan: my starting keeper. Funny how drafts always revert to the first draft.
