Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2019-20

Guess who’s back, back again….

With the fpl season getting closer and closer to starting, it is of course time for Bore Off to also kickoff. I have gathered the three originals, as is tradition for each first edition of the new season. As always a new season brings new hope. Hopefully this article helps a little, but not too much.

Looking back through the first Bore Off from last season, I noticed that the Amigos had many things right. All 3 had Salah as the first person in their team sheet, they were all for the LFC double up in midfield with Mane, which would have worked out well for any manager who did. Cookie and Kop were talking about a back four and in Cookie’s case he was talking up a 5 back. Cookie was ahead of his time! Init had his eye on Milivojevic and Cookie said this “Mili is obviously great for a penalty every time Zaha falls over”. Kop talked about a possible golden boot for Auba and was hopeful that Allison would sign for LFC.

Hopefully they can replicate some of their good calls for this upcoming season, let’s see what they have to say.

Thanks for reading Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!. This article was written by Mito21.

The FPL site has done a good feature on Lundstram (everyone’s favourite £4m defender!)

Pity other people are going to read it and pick him *insert slightly-miffed emoji*.

I wouldn’t get too excited by anything on the official site. I’ve seen a couple of Blades fans on twitter saying they’d be very surprised if got much game time. He hardly played in the championship.

This is exactly why he’ll be going down in price come the end of gw1 so I will take your conservative approach to the new wonders of this world and ship him along for a 4.0 bench fodder defender that I know won’t drop to 3.9 before we find the actual 4.0 gem.

Anyone know who’s most likely starting keeper for Burnley?

I got bored so decided to create a moneyball team. Make of it what you will.

Thanks for sharing that, Ben – broke up the RMT posts nicely. Nice bit of Excel effort.

Not a bad team at all and I can see where you’re coming from with Deulofeu (though as a midfielder, presumably)?

      • GentleBenAKA says:

Cheers Kralin, yes it was enjoyable to be free from the shackles of personal bias, team formation, pre-season form, fixtures, changes in playing position, changes in management, and new signings.

But clearly this is from where the failings of the resulting team derive – and you’ve picked up on one of them – Deulofeu’s PPM come from his position as a MID, but had he been classified as a FWD last season I assume his PPM would have been lower (no clean sheet points, less points for a goal) and so he would not get in the moneyball team on those numbers.

Still, despite the inherent failings, I was surprised that it came out looking that good, and also surprised that it came out exactly on budget.

tbh I love this style. I think the “money ball” idea has significant application in FF.

I would have to go Luiz -> Azp though. Not sure why. But looks like a solid team.

      • GentleBenAKA says:

Cheers ohyesali, and I can see why you’d go Luiz -> Azpi. I even thought about downgrading Luiz to 4.0 bench and upgrade MID or FWD bench to whoever is the best PPM for 6.5m (it’s Brooks, fyi) so I get a more flexible formation. And I thought about Tielemans -> Perez given they’re the same price and Perez is OOP and playing for a better team this year. And I thought about Lloris -> Pope because if he starts following Heaton’s exit, and achieves his 2017/8 numbers, then Pope will probably be the most “value” pick of the entire game with a PPM/£m of around 0.9-1.0. And then I wonder what to do with the spare £1m from the GKP downgrade.

And then I realised this is no longer being dictated by the numbers, and I’d be creating just another personal bias team (of which I have hundreds of drafts, and I don’t need another one!).

        • Kralin says:

I’m beginning to wonder if I’m some sort of deeply regressed neurotic – I’m having to hide various levels of reality from myself in order to put out a team that satisfies my numerous and unfounded biases.

I’d probably go with the 3rd draft out of that lot. It just seems the most balanced to me

      Kralin says:

I find about two drafts at a time is enough. And that can be more than enough, to be frank (from my perspective): otherwise they start to blur.

Better still: post something like ‘this is my latest draft’:

      and take it from there.

Also I’m sure you do already but do chip in and help others. Engage. That makes it more likely that people’ll get back and try to help you. It also spreads the RMT workload.

        +1

Also – offer your thoughts on your choices or which ones you’re specifically unsure about smile

      • gaz03 says:

Completely get what you are saying. It is my own complex that my 2 cents is not worth that much compared to the vast knowledge and experience the regulars have on this site, that stops me from offering my thoughts. Defo will work on that!
