Grab, Avoid or Bore Off! – Fantasy Premier League 2020-21

Guess who’s back, back again….

With the FPL season getting closer and closer to starting it is of course time for Bore Off to also kickoff. I have gathered three of my esteemed colleagues: GP of Scottish fantasy fame, Rosco of FPL fame and… Cookie.

I asked for the site members to provide any questions they wanted answering, and did they ever! Some really great stuff was asked and hopefully this edition of Bore Off can provide you with some good answers to said questions. I want to send a special thanks to Smash, Stone Frog, Tornado, Silvers, Chipster and dennisim for providing the bulk of the questions, they basically wrote it for me. smile

Well, without further ado, let us see what the boys had to say.

Thanks for reading Grab, Avoid or Bore Off!. This article was written by Mito21.

Love a GABO! Aguero and Sterling have got into my thoughts now. How do we fit them in?! :close_tema: Aguero will probably be easier (as he won’t be in one of the coveted mid spots). I’m on Werner/Ings/Brewster currently – waiting desperately for a Brewster loan move!

I think it depends only your strategy regarding kdb or sterling. If you picking and sticking with your premium mids then go kdb. He’s consistent. If you shuffling your premiums around go sterling as he’s got a higher ceiling

Have to feel like he’ll be straight in with all the talk of Aurier moving. If he plays in a similar position to Aurier when can expect him to be fairly advanced.

      Zed Leppelin says:

Even if he’s nailed on, it all comes down to how he is used by Mourinho. Will he get similar opportunities to infiltrate the box as he did at Wolves? I’m thinking not, and here’s why:

Last season Doherty has more touches in the opposition box than any other defender. That’s where he scored all of his fantasy points, a bit like Alonso when he was at his best. At Wolves he was allowed to venture into the box and play at times as a second striker. A lot of the time Traore was the wise man allowing Doherty to cut inside as well. With Kane and Son and a handful of other great attacking options at Spurs, I just don’t trust that Mourinho will allow Doherty the same freedom he had at Wolves, so with that in mind, 6.0m for him when the likes of Davies is at 5.0m (or even Dier) is just too much for me I think…

      • Smash says:

I disagree with this. Aurier’s heat map under Mourinho was higher up the pitch than any other RB in the league. They ain’t signed him to be defensive. So does this mean more freedom. As for Traore playing Doherty’s stays were better when he weren’t in the team as Traore was the one who got the ball further up the pitch. For all we know Jose will play 3-5-2 he has the players to do that

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah, that’s kind of my point. If you look at last season’s stats, yes Aurier had more touches in the final third than Doherty, Aurier also creates more chances and more big chances than Doherty did. But Doherty had more touches in the box, and a lot more big chances. Put it simply, Aurier was a provider last season whereas Doherty was a scorer, well more than Aurier anyway. And that’s why Doherty got more points than Aurier, he scored more goals.

So, yeah, I believe Doherty will get assists and perhaps the odd goal too at Spurs, but I don’t believe he will spend as much time in the opposition box at Spurs, but of course I could be wrong… If Spurs become defensively solid then Doherty could be worth it, but I have my reservations for now…

        • Smash says:

They are different players so will do different things, the important thing is to notice how far forward they will get: Aurier liked to cross the ball early as that’s his game Doherty will not be. So do t think you can judge it like that.

        • Smash says:

The Spurs defence is a different story compared to the Wolves defence but I still think he will be as attacking is my point

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yes, they are different players, but the same goes for the team, Spurs and Wolves are two different teams as well with different managers, players, and strategies, so equally you can’t say Doherty will do the same things he did at Wolves, we’ll see…

        • Smash says:

I’m not , I’m saying he will be allowed to attack. Otherwise they would have signed someone else is basically my point

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah I get that logic and could be you’re right there, I’m just still a bit worried… Was Doherty a player Mou really wanted to buy? Or was it more Levy?

      • GentleBenAKA says:

This back-and-forth has been exactly the train of thought inside my own brain for the past 24 hours. It’s weird seeing it set out in text. Like an FPL angel and devil on either shoulder.
