New FPL Transfers Everton Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramírez and Davy Klaassen
Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Everton Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramírez and Davy Klaassen. This has been an unusual window for Everton – usually they are frustrated spectators as their rivals spend away and buy a whole range of talent before the Toffees fudge around on deadline day, sneak in a deal or two – or if they’re really lucky, cash in on Marouane Fellaini at the 11th hour. This season they have dealt big and they have dealt early – out have gone Lukaku, Deulofeu and Kone and in so far have come Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramírez and Davy Klaassen. This article will concentrate on the latter three, the attacking side of things. If you haven’t realised it already then by the time you have read both Everton articles it will be drilled into your memory – Everton’s first few fixtures are nothing short of horrendous – however they change for the better from game-week 6, which not only gives the new players a chance to settle in but gives us managers the opportunity to see how they fit into Ronald Koeman’s plans and how each player is utilised into the Everton team.

[/three_fifth]The Prodigal Son returns. What he has lost on top he has put on round the waist, but he returns older, richer, maybe not wiser, but hey no-one is perfect. Wazza is home. Back to his roots, to his beloved Gwladys Street. Same would say back to his retirement home with his slippers and smoking jacket, but maybe we are being a touch hasty. The pace may not be what it was, but the technique is still there as is the passing ability and the eye for goal. That’s the niceties out of the way, let’s get our teeth into what Rooney brings to Everton. Presumably Koeman will play Wazza in the no.10 role for he is not really needed in midfield and hasn’t the pace to play as the central striker up top. Playing just behind Sandro should suit Wazza perfectly – it will give him the chance to display his creative talent, play the killer ball through to Sandro, bring others into the game and get on the end of attacks. Koeman believes the signing of Rooney shows a statement of intent to Everton’s Premier League rivals and that Rooney’s experience of winning trophies is vital as the club look to take the next step of competing for silverware. Interestingly the manager says he thinks Wazza will bring productivity to the team and that his marquee signing is able to play ‘number 10 behind the striker, in a free role from the left or right, or the number nine.’ Much of course will depend on Wazza’S fitness but from a FPL point of view, his price of 7.5mln brings Man United’s and England’s top scorer into the cheap(ish) third forward range and will undoubtedly find himself in many manager’s thoughts. Personally, and I would extend this view to Sandro and Klaasen too, I’d wait and watch Everton’s first few tricky fixtures – they play Man City, Chelsea, Spurs and Man United all in the first 5 game-weeks – and see how the new lads settle in. From GW6, the Toffees’ fixtures take a turn for the better and that may well be the time to jump on Rooney, or one of his team-mates.

[/three_fifth]The signing of Sandro surprised many, but after years of celebrating or cursing Big Rom, Evertonians now have the chance to turn their affections or criticism to Big Ram. Sandro has big shoes to fill, especially if social media is to be believed, but the reports of Sandro are generally good. The striker was signed from Malaga for a fee believed to be somewhere between €6-10mln, depending on who you believe – great business if it works. Sandro scored 14 goals in 30 appearances for Malaga in La Liga last season – he also assisted three goals in the league. He had the just one season at Malaga after joining in July 2016 from Barcelona – his time at the Nou Camp was generally cut short by injury and the fact that he was competing with Messi, Neymar & Suarez for a starting spot – Sandro may be good, but he ain’t that good! The Barca scout who discovered Sandro as a 12 year old playing in the Canary Islands says of the striker, ‘He had a natural gift for off-the-ball movement and the ability to play with both feet, something he still has today. He had a lot of confidence in himself and constantly demanded the ball, so he stood out even when he was a 12-year-old playing with 14-year-olds. He was superior to the rest and his scoring record was unprecedented in the Canary Islands’. Sandro is known predominantly for his pace and shooting with his right foot, but can also be useful in the air and has also been used off the wing. It’ll be interesting to see how he links up with Rooney and indeed Everton’s other creative players and watching those first five game-weeks will allow him to settle in and give us a chance to see if he can be a FPL option.

[/three_fifth]Davy, Davy Klaassen, king of the wild frontier. Showing my age there, most of you probably don’t know what the hell I’m talking about. No change there! So Koeman has raided his home country for a midfield general, a Dutch international with 14 caps, young Klaassen is just 24 years old and has joined the Toffees from Ajax for a fee of around £24mln. Now this boy has real promise – Davy joined the Ajax academy at 11 and stood out as he rose through the youth system to captain the U19s to the league title in May 2012. By then he had already made his debut for the first team and emulated the likes of Cruyff, Kluivert and van Basten by scoring on his Ajax debut. Klaassen was handed the ideal chance to prove himself when Christian Eriksen left for Spurs in 2013 and was immediately compared to Dennis Bergkamp. Klaassen scored 14 goals and contributed 9 assists in 33 matches for Ajax last season and played in the final of the Europa Cup vs Man United. He is without doubt an exciting talent if he settles into Premier League life – he will no doubt get less time on the ball than in Holland, but he has the skill and ability to conquer that. Dutch imports have been a mixed bag when they have moved to England – for every Bergkamp there is a Ryan Babel, for every Jaap Stam a Marco Boogers. But my own thinking is that this guy will do well and I’ll close with the words of Ajax and Dutch King himself, Cruyff, ‘You must have strong positioning, ability to control the ball at speed and also have the technique to deal with the speed of it. Xavi, Toni Kroos and Davy Klaassen can do it. All three have perfect anticipation and they can play it both left and right excellently. You watch, when Klaassen plays from that position for Ajax, the tempo increases immediately. Moreover, he rarely loses possession’ – praise indeed. Stick this guy on your watchlist and set your alarm for GW6 for those that snooze, will lose.

*** NEW ARTICLE ***
Morning everyone and Happy Friday. Today we look at Everton’s new attacking coverage, so make yourself a coffee and enjoy.
Anyone for Rooney after his goal yesterday?
Good morning Cookie ans thanks for the updates. How’s life treating you?
Good day ATF, lovely to see you my friend. Life is good thank you, family keeping me out of trouble (ish), the sun is shining and it’s Friday!
How are you pal? Family all well?
All is well. With family on a month surf holiday in Sri Lanka before returning to the concrete jungle.
You’re always on holiday
Good day KW. Ha! Work hard, play hard! How’s tricks?
Morning Cookie another great article , I really thk Eve have done good business here & expect them to challenge for top 4 place. You cant really argue with any of there signing , keeping an eye on all of them & hope to have at least two in come wk 6 , good stuff mate
Cheers Silvers, Klaassen interests me more than Rooney or Sandra if I’m honest – he looks a proper player, very much like Eriksen and with Everton strengthening throughout the team, this will only help Klaassen and give him the basis to show his skills.
Yes Cookie , Klaassen is on my radar I like Keane as well but for .5m more you can get Coleman when he’s back.
Thanks Cookie. I think Everton could go well this year and I’m very tempted by Rooney
Feel free to RMT…constructive criticism, suggestions and questions welcomed. (Kindly note that self-imposed restrictions do not enable metro field any player from last season’s top four clubs). Thanks in advance.
I like it ATF – have a look at J Rod at Albion mate, he’s my value tip of the season, genuinely think he’ll do very well there.
It’s nice to see a team with Alexis in.
Have J Rob in my first draft agree with you on this Cookie keep an eye on pre season friendlies 😉
I’ll put him on my radar, along with Chadli. Cheers!
ATF, re Chadli, I believe he and Pulis have fallen out and he was left behind from the tour party – double check on that, but am sure I read it somewhere.
Morning all and thanks for the article, Cookie – that’s some review of Klaassen! Coming from the Eredivisie always casts doubt over a player’s FPL potential though. It still pains me to remember how adamant I was to have Depay.
I hope this does not breach any Code of Use for the site (remove my comment if it does! :p ) but I wrote a short article on Mohamed Salah. It’s better than nothing till Cookie writes a better one, right? 😉
If anyone is interested, you can find it here: http://readliverpoolfc.com/2017/07/14/fantasy-football-can-mohamed-salah-get-right-time/
Great stuff AT
I’ve actually written a piece on Salah which might be published if Liverpool sign anyone else…don’t expect to see it anytime soon!!
Cheers Kop. Hahah, Keita still looks on the cards I think.
AT, I’ll buy you a pint if we manage to sign Keita. Hell, I’ll buy you two!!
Not buying that journalist’s ‘formality’ comment then? He seems keen to move. Just depends on what price the selling club wants these days.
I’m certainly not AT. Leipzig have no desire or need to sell.
They don’t, but if he wants a move then they also have the money to replace him.
If he’s as good as he’s made out to be Leipzig won’t be able to replace him.
Kop, very true. Fun fact: RB does not stand for Red Bull as Germany does not allow brand promotion in team names. I’m not going to attempt what it does stand for over predictive text!
Nice one AT. I also wrote an article about Salah. Again, like AT said, if this contravenes any FF247 codes of conduct, please delete. It comes in the form of a haiku. A ‘Bry-ku’ if you will, entitled “How will you spend your Mane money?”
Sadio sadly
needs knee surgery. But look!
Mohamed Salah.
You may take your coat and leave
Oi! I had to google for what kind of injury he had. That’s the most research I’ve ever done!
A beautiful piece, Bry.
A beautiful piece, Bry.
Beautiful, Bry.
Sorry Bry. You could try singing it at a Karaoke bar tonight?!
They don’t let me write about Liverpool players. Not sure why
If I can write about….anyone, you can write about Liverpool.
Chalobah – discuss…
Watford – no
goal haul – meagre
Decent player but won’t offer any attacking returns
I saw the announcement on twitter, did he cut his hair?
Gash
Who will Everton’s #10 be ?
Rooney, Klaasen, Barkley or Siggy if they sign him.
Will Everton’s shoehorn Rooney, Klaasen and Barkley/Siggy all into the same team ?
I’d expect Barkley to go and if not might even be on the bench. I think they will all play but yeah not sure how it will all work yet
Rooney will be the number 10.
