New FPL Transfers Everton Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramírez and Davy Klaassen

Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Everton Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramírez and Davy Klaassen. This has been an unusual window for Everton – usually they are frustrated spectators as their rivals spend away and buy a whole range of talent before the Toffees fudge around on deadline day, sneak in a deal or two – or if they’re really lucky, cash in on Marouane Fellaini at the 11th hour. This season they have dealt big and they have dealt early – out have gone Lukaku, Deulofeu and Kone and in so far have come Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramírez and Davy Klaassen. This article will concentrate on the latter three, the attacking side of things. If you haven’t realised it already then by the time you have read both Everton articles it will be drilled into your memory – Everton’s first few fixtures are nothing short of horrendous – however they change for the better from game-week 6, which not only gives the new players a chance to settle in but gives us managers the opportunity to see how they fit into Ronald Koeman’s plans and how each player is utilised into the Everton team.

[/three_fifth]The Prodigal Son returns. What he has lost on top he has put on round the waist, but he returns older, richer, maybe not wiser, but hey no-one is perfect. Wazza is home. Back to his roots, to his beloved Gwladys Street. Same would say back to his retirement home with his slippers and smoking jacket, but maybe we are being a touch hasty. The pace may not be what it was, but the technique is still there as is the passing ability and the eye for goal. That’s the niceties out of the way, let’s get our teeth into what Rooney brings to Everton. Presumably Koeman will play Wazza in the no.10 role for he is not really needed in midfield and hasn’t the pace to play as the central striker up top. Playing just behind Sandro should suit Wazza perfectly – it will give him the chance to display his creative talent, play the killer ball through to Sandro, bring others into the game and get on the end of attacks. Koeman believes the signing of Rooney shows a statement of intent to Everton’s Premier League rivals and that Rooney’s experience of winning trophies is vital as the club look to take the next step of competing for silverware. Interestingly the manager says he thinks Wazza will bring productivity to the team and that his marquee signing is able to play ‘number 10 behind the striker, in a free role from the left or right, or the number nine.’ Much of course will depend on Wazza’S fitness but from a FPL point of view, his price of 7.5mln brings Man United’s and England’s top scorer into the cheap(ish) third forward range and will undoubtedly find himself in many manager’s thoughts. Personally, and I would extend this view to Sandro and Klaasen too, I’d wait and watch Everton’s first few tricky fixtures – they play Man City, Chelsea, Spurs and Man United all in the first 5 game-weeks – and see how the new lads settle in. From GW6, the Toffees’ fixtures take a turn for the better and that may well be the time to jump on Rooney, or one of his team-mates.

[/three_fifth]The signing of Sandro surprised many, but after years of celebrating or cursing Big Rom, Evertonians now have the chance to turn their affections or criticism to Big Ram. Sandro has big shoes to fill, especially if social media is to be believed, but the reports of Sandro are generally good. The striker was signed from Malaga for a fee believed to be somewhere between €6-10mln, depending on who you believe – great business if it works. Sandro scored 14 goals in 30 appearances for Malaga in La Liga last season – he also assisted three goals in the league. He had the just one season at Malaga after joining in July 2016 from Barcelona – his time at the Nou Camp was generally cut short by injury and the fact that he was competing with Messi, Neymar & Suarez for a starting spot – Sandro may be good, but he ain’t that good! The Barca scout who discovered Sandro as a 12 year old playing in the Canary Islands says of the striker, ‘He had a natural gift for off-the-ball movement and the ability to play with both feet, something he still has today. He had a lot of confidence in himself and constantly demanded the ball, so he stood out even when he was a 12-year-old playing with 14-year-olds. He was superior to the rest and his scoring record was unprecedented in the Canary Islands’. Sandro is known predominantly for his pace and shooting with his right foot, but can also be useful in the air and has also been used off the wing. It’ll be interesting to see how he links up with Rooney and indeed Everton’s other creative players and watching those first five game-weeks will allow him to settle in and give us a chance to see if he can be a FPL option.

Davy Klaassen

[/three_fifth]Davy, Davy Klaassen, king of the wild frontier. Showing my age there, most of you probably don’t know what the hell I’m talking about. No change there! So Koeman has raided his home country for a midfield general, a Dutch international with 14 caps, young Klaassen is just 24 years old and has joined the Toffees from Ajax for a fee of around £24mln. Now this boy has real promise – Davy joined the Ajax academy at 11 and stood out as he rose through the youth system to captain the U19s to the league title in May 2012. By then he had already made his debut for the first team and emulated the likes of Cruyff, Kluivert and van Basten by scoring on his Ajax debut. Klaassen was handed the ideal chance to prove himself when Christian Eriksen left for Spurs in 2013 and was immediately compared to Dennis Bergkamp. Klaassen scored 14 goals and contributed 9 assists in 33 matches for Ajax last season and played in the final of the Europa Cup vs Man United. He is without doubt an exciting talent if he settles into Premier League life – he will no doubt get less time on the ball than in Holland, but he has the skill and ability to conquer that. Dutch imports have been a mixed bag when they have moved to England – for every Bergkamp there is a Ryan Babel, for every Jaap Stam a Marco Boogers. But my own thinking is that this guy will do well and I’ll close with the words of Ajax and Dutch King himself, Cruyff, ‘You must have strong positioning, ability to control the ball at speed and also have the technique to deal with the speed of it. Xavi, Toni Kroos and Davy Klaassen can do it. All three have perfect anticipation and they can play it both left and right excellently. You watch, when Klaassen plays from that position for Ajax, the tempo increases immediately. Moreover, he rarely loses possession’ – praise indeed. Stick this guy on your watchlist and set your alarm for GW6 for those that snooze, will lose.

Many thanks for this Cookie, a great run down. We need to see how Everton shape up in pre-season in relation to who plays where but Klaassen is one I’m seriously considering right now. Rooney could indeed prove to be good value as you say, but let’s see.

Hey gang. Looking at 4.5 defender for this first stretch and keep coming back to Palace’s fixtures. Anyone know if Tomkins will start and will they go with back 3 or back 4? Looked at Mee but Burnley’s start is horrendous. Any other shouts? Cheers.

Anyone going with John Walters? Might play up top for Burnley and might be on pens

Hey guys, thoughts? I’m happy for the moment with my forward and back line, but I know my midfield could use some tinkering. Have 0.5 left. Ramsey is the one I’m concerned about, but I simply put him in there to have Arsenal coverage. Keeping an eye on Gundogan as an alternative. Think he can be a steal if he’s fit and it would allow me to upgrade Pogba/Redmond if they don’t perform or McArthur.

Looks pretty solid there. Yeah Ramsey and Gundogan are certainly ones to look out for. Their prices are good. J Rod also one to look out for personally not a fan of West Brom attack

Thanks Smash. Yeah I’m not a fan of West Brom attack either. Was a toss up between Rod and Gayle, but figured for 0.5 less I would start with him. Also waiting to see how Watford and Deeney look.
