New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva, Ederson and Kyle Walker
Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva and Ederson. Continuing with our series of player previews and we arrive at Manchester City. Iām sure we can all agree that City were something of a disappointment last season eventually finishing 3rd. Now finishing 3rd might be considered an achievement for many clubs but not a club who had installed Pep Guardiola as manager and had invested in the likes of Nolito, Gundogan, Jesus, Sane and John āI canāt defendā Stones. 3rd place will not be accepted this season and with this in mind Pep has once again been busy splashing the cash. Itās no surprise to see a new keeper arrive but Iām not sure they needed another midfielder! Letās take a closer look at their new arrivals.
Bernardo Silva
Position: Midfielder
FPL Price: Ā£8.0m

[/three_fifth]With one Silva coming towards the end of his career, City decided to splash the cash and get a shiny new one!! Bernardo Silva will be turning 23 soon but is still at the start of his career so I would believe him to take over in the midfield from his older namesake who will more than likely see less game time. Bernardo plays predominately on the right wing and uses that left foot of his to cut inside but can play in the middle and on the left so Pep may use him as a centre behind Jesus and Aguero, this could lead to a vast number of assists for the Portuguese man. Bernardo moved to Monaco on loan from Benfica back in 2014 and made the move permanent in 2015. Since then Bernardo has become almost prolific for Monaco appearing 147 times, scoring 28 goals and assisting a further 19. Last season alone he scored 11 goals and assisted 12 in all competitions. Competition for places, especially in attacking areas remains the biggest downside to the likes of Sane, Sterling, both Silva’s and KdB but if preseason gives any indication that Bernardo Silva is likely to be a regular starter then we would strongly recommend him for your FPL squad.
Ederson
Position: Goalkeeper
FPL Price: Ā£5.5m

[/three_fifth]Peanut butter and jelly, Bert and Ernie, City and spending money!! All things that are synonymous with each other. This time last season City were raving about the signing of former Barcelona keeper, Claudio Bravo but after a poor season City have gone back into the market spending Ā£35 million on the 24-year-old Brazilian, Ederson, from Benfica. The young goal stopper is obviously seen as the long-term No.1 for City with 121 top flight appearances in the Primeira Liga conceding 109 goals in that time. The youngster should walk straight into the City team even after Bravoās Confed āHeroicsā and with Cityās winnable fixtures Ederson could add some early clean sheets to his City resume. One downfall, or worry, to Ederson is he gets rather a lot of yellow cards for a keeper; during his time at Rio Ave he received 10 yellow cards and with Benfica he received 7, 5 of which came last season. The way English football is going Ederson could be in line for a card suspension but it is a bridge to cross when, and if, we come to it!
Kyle Walker
Position: Defender
FPL Price: 6.5mln
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]City paying north of Ā£50mln for an average defender for a second successive season surprised no-one really. Walkerās move to the Etihad has been expected for months and first came to light during the run-in last season as Poch preferred Trippier, clearly knowing that Walker would be offski sooner rather than later. Well it took longer than expected, Daniel Levy got his extra shekel and another part of Spurs new ground has just been paid off. I make no apologies for calling Walker an average defender ā I genuinely believe he is, but I will admit that his skills going forward are excellent ā six assists last season tells its own story, it was the highest number by any defender and one would expect those stats to continue or even improve at City. Now my view on Walkerās defending should not be confused with me advising you not to own him ā if City can get and then keep Vincent Kompany fit we have seen City can keep things tight. However, 6.5mln for a defender sees Walker priced in the upper echelon of defenders and at this stage of preseason I would suggest that using that much of your budget on a defender whoās best chance of a clean sheet depends on whether his injury prone captain can stay fit seems rather a luxury to me. That view may change if Pep strengthens his defence further, because City certainly have the fixtures to start well. The main message I think here is that Walker’s move to City has just made Trippier a hugely viable FPL assest at 5.5mln.

The Fixture Tracker…
Cheers for this Matt.
Just seen that Rafa wants another goalkeeper to challenge Elliot. I read that as Elliot being first choice keeper??
Also just seen that AFCON is likely to move to the summer months and could possibly be played once every four years instead, just like the Euros. A necessary switch I think after increasing player commitment to their European clubs.
Hi AT. Yeah Rafa said he want’s a GK and a striker in. Whether or not he gets 1 is a different matter after failing with supposed links to Reina and Hart.
Hi Milburn. Oh, well if that is the quality he is looking for maybe Elliot is not a starter in his eyes?
Well he’s definitely number 1 choice now. We’ll have to see if that’s the case in a months time. If it’s worth anything I’ve got him in my FPL team currently.
As do I. Hope he just brings in ‘competition’.
I know it’s too early but I want to draft my team
Give me some advice, pls!
Morning wazza. A few things to think about:
-Personally not a fan of starting the year with non-playing players, I believe Rosenior is such a player?
-Great fixtures for Soton but not sure that merits a triple up.
-Having a strong 8 gives you a selection headache every week. Some people like them. I personally hate them and always bench the wrong player.
-Watch pre-season re: Rondon and how Rodriguez is deployed. May be a better option.
Thanks AT
I draft my team and will fix it before GW1 starts.
What do AT think about Redmond, Ritchie and Pogba?
Not sure on Redmond myself. 7 goals and 1 assist in near enough a full season of starts is not a great return considering he scored 2 of them in his 5 starts as a striker which I can’t see him being used as this year.
As for Ritchie, his first season in the PL was equally hyped up and he flopped then so I am a little wary, although he is on all set pieces and penalties now I believe, so could be a superb acquisition to your squad.
Pogba depends on whether United get a defensive midfielder I think.
Wazza, Rondon? What is the thought process with him mate? Do you know something we don’t?!
You have J-Rod 0.5mln cheaper……and he actually scores goals. The rest looks really good, apart from maybe no Liverpool atatcking coverage…..
I think J Rod will play wing position or backup for Rondon. Rondon will play the highest attack.
West Brom’s Fixtures is very good!
It’s hard to buy a Liverpool attacker. Last season, without Mane, Liverpool did not play well. So, I am waiting for more before buying any Liverpool player.
Wazza, I’d agree with the lads regarding Rondon. There are better alternatives at that price, particularly his team mate.
According to Kop, should I buy Liverpool’s attacking players? Mane, Salah, Coutinho, Firminho, Solanke,…?
Assuming Mane returns well from his injury he’d be my choice.
hey! my secpnd draft is here would love some advice!
Looks good aside from Martina. He’s rubbish and Everton”s fixtures are terrible after GW1. I’m not convinced he’ll play even while Coleman is out.
Matt
Excellent coverage of the new Citizens mate.
I agree word-for-word on Kyle Walker by the way. The man cannot track attackers, constantly ball-watches and it’s usually his quickness that gets himself out of the jams he sticks himself in.
I love B Silva. Always have and will, the fact he has gone to City saddens me in FPL terms. I may still take the plunge if I need to shift funds up top in light of the Morata news.
Anyone considering Ake? Decent fixtures, especially with a rotation partner. Scored 3 last term in 8 starts for Bournemouth and grabbed an assist for Chelsea in the only full game he played for them. He’s always scored the odd goal throughout his career. Never really had a chance to play week in week out, but surely he is nailed on this year?
AT
You could rotate with Newcastle or Southampton I believe (just a very brief scan of the tracker). I assume most will have Southampton and not want to rotate out so therefore maybe Newcastle is the way to go.
I like Ake and he will be assured to play.
Yep, not wanting to rotate Soton so I’ve stuck them in net haha.
Yes, I consider Ake. However, Bou’s fix is hard.
I will consider to buy Ake from GW 5
Not sure I’d describe them as hard, but certainly varied. Newcastle (Yedlin) rotate well with Bournemouth.
