New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva, Ederson and Kyle Walker
Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva and Ederson. Continuing with our series of player previews and we arrive at Manchester City. I’m sure we can all agree that City were something of a disappointment last season eventually finishing 3rd. Now finishing 3rd might be considered an achievement for many clubs but not a club who had installed Pep Guardiola as manager and had invested in the likes of Nolito, Gundogan, Jesus, Sane and John ‘I can’t defend’ Stones. 3rd place will not be accepted this season and with this in mind Pep has once again been busy splashing the cash. It’s no surprise to see a new keeper arrive but I’m not sure they needed another midfielder! Let’s take a closer look at their new arrivals.
Bernardo Silva
Position: Midfielder
FPL Price: £8.0m

[/three_fifth]With one Silva coming towards the end of his career, City decided to splash the cash and get a shiny new one!! Bernardo Silva will be turning 23 soon but is still at the start of his career so I would believe him to take over in the midfield from his older namesake who will more than likely see less game time. Bernardo plays predominately on the right wing and uses that left foot of his to cut inside but can play in the middle and on the left so Pep may use him as a centre behind Jesus and Aguero, this could lead to a vast number of assists for the Portuguese man. Bernardo moved to Monaco on loan from Benfica back in 2014 and made the move permanent in 2015. Since then Bernardo has become almost prolific for Monaco appearing 147 times, scoring 28 goals and assisting a further 19. Last season alone he scored 11 goals and assisted 12 in all competitions. Competition for places, especially in attacking areas remains the biggest downside to the likes of Sane, Sterling, both Silva’s and KdB but if preseason gives any indication that Bernardo Silva is likely to be a regular starter then we would strongly recommend him for your FPL squad.
Ederson
Position: Goalkeeper
FPL Price: £5.5m

[/three_fifth]Peanut butter and jelly, Bert and Ernie, City and spending money!! All things that are synonymous with each other. This time last season City were raving about the signing of former Barcelona keeper, Claudio Bravo but after a poor season City have gone back into the market spending £35 million on the 24-year-old Brazilian, Ederson, from Benfica. The young goal stopper is obviously seen as the long-term No.1 for City with 121 top flight appearances in the Primeira Liga conceding 109 goals in that time. The youngster should walk straight into the City team even after Bravo’s Confed “Heroics” and with City’s winnable fixtures Ederson could add some early clean sheets to his City resume. One downfall, or worry, to Ederson is he gets rather a lot of yellow cards for a keeper; during his time at Rio Ave he received 10 yellow cards and with Benfica he received 7, 5 of which came last season. The way English football is going Ederson could be in line for a card suspension but it is a bridge to cross when, and if, we come to it!
Kyle Walker
Position: Defender
FPL Price: 6.5mln
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]City paying north of £50mln for an average defender for a second successive season surprised no-one really. Walker’s move to the Etihad has been expected for months and first came to light during the run-in last season as Poch preferred Trippier, clearly knowing that Walker would be offski sooner rather than later. Well it took longer than expected, Daniel Levy got his extra shekel and another part of Spurs new ground has just been paid off. I make no apologies for calling Walker an average defender – I genuinely believe he is, but I will admit that his skills going forward are excellent – six assists last season tells its own story, it was the highest number by any defender and one would expect those stats to continue or even improve at City. Now my view on Walker’s defending should not be confused with me advising you not to own him – if City can get and then keep Vincent Kompany fit we have seen City can keep things tight. However, 6.5mln for a defender sees Walker priced in the upper echelon of defenders and at this stage of preseason I would suggest that using that much of your budget on a defender who’s best chance of a clean sheet depends on whether his injury prone captain can stay fit seems rather a luxury to me. That view may change if Pep strengthens his defence further, because City certainly have the fixtures to start well. The main message I think here is that Walker’s move to City has just made Trippier a hugely viable FPL assest at 5.5mln.

The Fixture Tracker…
Tammy Abraham at 5.5m could prove to be the ultimate cheap 3rd striker. Scored the same amount of goals as Gayle last season for Bristol City albeit playing more minutes.
I wasn’t overly impressed with Abraham at the U21s. I’d favour Gayle over Abraham for a couple of reasons, he’s got previous PL experience and obviously he was at Newcastle last season whereas Abraham has changed club.
If Llorente goes to Chelsea (rumoured) then Clement needs another striker – he spoke of Jonathan Viera this morning from Las Palmas and was non-committal over a return for Wilfried Bony. I think Abraham will get minutes but I’m not sure how many and I too favour Gayle over him at the current time.
Abraham did score this morning though I will add
There was no need for the inclusion of the final sentence GP 😉
In the interest of balance M’lud.
Yeah valid points Kop. If I go down the cheap 3rd striker route Gayle is definitely top of my list but at the minute I’m struggling to only pick 2 of the top price strikers. Seems an abundance of choice this year.
Yeah I did not think much of him when he played under 21’s. I think he will be in and out the team all season. Think I’d fancy Newcastle to finish above Swansea as well
Just put some stats together have a look make some comments, bit busy at minuet 😉
Can some I.T. guru rotate this please?
Certainly my friend!!
There you go!
Cheers Rosco, and thanks Silvers. Very interesting but no great shocks for me. Obviously game time and difficulty in different leagues has to be taken into consideration.
Had to take a pic of this any other way of attaching a file ????
Rosco, Milburn and Silvers, you three had me thinking of this theme song. https://youtu.be/Ag1o3koTLWM
Hahahaha I like it!
This might be a bit better
ok 3rd attempt stats on the big 4
I agree Milburn , I have looking at this & I would say Kun & Kane should be in over the last 3 seasons there stats stack up , if we thk about who are the most attacking sides I would say City , Spurs , Ars , Che & MU in that order. This would see Kun & Kane get more chances we also have to take in the bedding in factor both Morata & Lacaz haven’t played in the PL plus Luk going to Utd could have an effect on him.
We have also the Wembley factor for Kane & how Spurs deal with that , we also need to look who else is available in there respective teams & prices my gut says go with Kane & Kun but we have Alli & Jesus City’s MF will be a nightmare , who else do Mtd & Che (Haz injured) have to get those sort of points Ars do have Sanchez but what a price.
I’m not convinced we need 3 big hitters but the jury is out
The Hard Brexiteers draft no.1.
Restricted to UK & non-EU member state players only.
you’re really doing this then?
possibly!!
Afternoon Cookie,
For reference (and to encourage my laziness), please provide a list of the EU countries which are out of bounds for you.
G’day GP……
luckily I can still call on Scottish players.
However, out of bounds would be: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.
Yeah I wholeheartedly support you on your ventures pal but respectfully, I may struggle to RMT you. I can just about remember last season’s Top 4 to help out ATF !
The sooner Scotland exit the UK, rejoin the EU and save your fantasy side the better
GP, let’s hope Sturgeon is reading this and leads Scotland out of the promised land
She’s too busy being a token Jock at the Women’s Euros. Idiot.
On that topic – Hannah Bardell – google her. :no-shake:
She the idiot that wore her Scottish shirt in Parliament?
Yep.
I’ve always said there’s a time and a place for football shirts. She found one of the “ain’t” ones.
She should be thrown out
Hey up Cookie you going without Luk brave man this team is fairly solid , obvious ? Ram game time , Zaha consistency , strong back line & a bit of cover on the bench I like it 😉
FFS Silvers ^^
Read what he says!
Hey Silvers,
Lukaku is out of bounds with my Brexit rules. I would add though the main reason I would buy Lukaku (if I could) would be to protect against his high ownership. From a purely playing point of view, without access to % ownership, I would be more scared going without Kun and Kane than Lukaku.

Once again Silvers
Team looks pretty solid. Only thing I don’t like would be Ramsey but I’m struggling to figure out who you could replace him with. Maybe Ritchie and use the extra mil somewhere else.
Cheers Matt,
I could actually replace Ramsey and Zaha for Sane and Ritchie…….
This moves do seem better but Sane plays for Germany so doesn’t that go outside your limits?
Yeah my error. Hahaha I had it in my head he was South American for some reason!
Had to read up there Cookie as was wondering wth you were doing with Ramsey in there. Didn’t want to ‘do a Silvers’ on it…
You could go with Sterling and Ritchie?
Matt, I won’t ever buy Sterling again. He is properly shite and City have no need for him anymore with the quality they have in midfield,
And we got 50 Mil for him!! Hahaha love it!
How much do you have when you do Zaha and Ramsey to Ritchie?
Matt,
It was the best sale since Newcastle got 35mln for Carroll 😉
8.5mln
Haha definitely!!
If you did Ritchie to Mooy/Shelvey/JWP then you could have 9 Mil and you could have Salah or Couthino.
I already have Coutinho! JWP has crossed my mind. Shelvey has Sterling status. It’s an achievement that I’m actually considering Ritchie, it’s only to keep Rosco, Milburn and GP happy
Hahaha sorry with the other red jerseys I completely missed him. I’m seriously considering JWP and I have a feeling he will sneak into my final draft. Just have a feeling he could have a brilliant year this season.
Yes he could well do, firstly he needs to nail down a starting spot under the new boss.
