New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva, Ederson and Kyle Walker
Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva and Ederson. Continuing with our series of player previews and we arrive at Manchester City. I’m sure we can all agree that City were something of a disappointment last season eventually finishing 3rd. Now finishing 3rd might be considered an achievement for many clubs but not a club who had installed Pep Guardiola as manager and had invested in the likes of Nolito, Gundogan, Jesus, Sane and John ‘I can’t defend’ Stones. 3rd place will not be accepted this season and with this in mind Pep has once again been busy splashing the cash. It’s no surprise to see a new keeper arrive but I’m not sure they needed another midfielder! Let’s take a closer look at their new arrivals.
Bernardo Silva
Position: Midfielder
FPL Price: £8.0m

[/three_fifth]With one Silva coming towards the end of his career, City decided to splash the cash and get a shiny new one!! Bernardo Silva will be turning 23 soon but is still at the start of his career so I would believe him to take over in the midfield from his older namesake who will more than likely see less game time. Bernardo plays predominately on the right wing and uses that left foot of his to cut inside but can play in the middle and on the left so Pep may use him as a centre behind Jesus and Aguero, this could lead to a vast number of assists for the Portuguese man. Bernardo moved to Monaco on loan from Benfica back in 2014 and made the move permanent in 2015. Since then Bernardo has become almost prolific for Monaco appearing 147 times, scoring 28 goals and assisting a further 19. Last season alone he scored 11 goals and assisted 12 in all competitions. Competition for places, especially in attacking areas remains the biggest downside to the likes of Sane, Sterling, both Silva’s and KdB but if preseason gives any indication that Bernardo Silva is likely to be a regular starter then we would strongly recommend him for your FPL squad.
Ederson
Position: Goalkeeper
FPL Price: £5.5m

[/three_fifth]Peanut butter and jelly, Bert and Ernie, City and spending money!! All things that are synonymous with each other. This time last season City were raving about the signing of former Barcelona keeper, Claudio Bravo but after a poor season City have gone back into the market spending £35 million on the 24-year-old Brazilian, Ederson, from Benfica. The young goal stopper is obviously seen as the long-term No.1 for City with 121 top flight appearances in the Primeira Liga conceding 109 goals in that time. The youngster should walk straight into the City team even after Bravo’s Confed “Heroics” and with City’s winnable fixtures Ederson could add some early clean sheets to his City resume. One downfall, or worry, to Ederson is he gets rather a lot of yellow cards for a keeper; during his time at Rio Ave he received 10 yellow cards and with Benfica he received 7, 5 of which came last season. The way English football is going Ederson could be in line for a card suspension but it is a bridge to cross when, and if, we come to it!
Kyle Walker
Position: Defender
FPL Price: 6.5mln
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]City paying north of £50mln for an average defender for a second successive season surprised no-one really. Walker’s move to the Etihad has been expected for months and first came to light during the run-in last season as Poch preferred Trippier, clearly knowing that Walker would be offski sooner rather than later. Well it took longer than expected, Daniel Levy got his extra shekel and another part of Spurs new ground has just been paid off. I make no apologies for calling Walker an average defender – I genuinely believe he is, but I will admit that his skills going forward are excellent – six assists last season tells its own story, it was the highest number by any defender and one would expect those stats to continue or even improve at City. Now my view on Walker’s defending should not be confused with me advising you not to own him – if City can get and then keep Vincent Kompany fit we have seen City can keep things tight. However, 6.5mln for a defender sees Walker priced in the upper echelon of defenders and at this stage of preseason I would suggest that using that much of your budget on a defender who’s best chance of a clean sheet depends on whether his injury prone captain can stay fit seems rather a luxury to me. That view may change if Pep strengthens his defence further, because City certainly have the fixtures to start well. The main message I think here is that Walker’s move to City has just made Trippier a hugely viable FPL assest at 5.5mln.

The Fixture Tracker…
Which of this lot is better? Not sure if going with 1 Premium GK is the way to go or not but this is kind of what I’ve come up with.
Or B.
Matt, the J-Rod team, obviously 😉
That’s the team I’m leaning towards. Have an few plans in my mind depending on what Morata’s price turns out to be.
Who would you lose for Morata?
Well hoping that Morata will be priced at 9.5 Mil.
In team A it would be Pedro, Tadic and Gayle to Ritchie, JWP and Morata.
In Team B, it would be Bailly to a 5 Mil defender, Pedro to JWP and J.Rod to Morata.
Don’t lose J-Rod Matt – he is this season’s Michu, Mahrez, Vardy, Kane, Alli etc
You that sure of him, Cookie? I’m just a bit sceptical about WBA”s ability to score.
Interesting. I’m always wary about West Brom scoring goals. J Rod is cheap though
That’s what I’m a bit worried about too Smash.
Matt, yeah I fully get the hesitancy over West Brom but I think he is cheap enough and has the fixtures early on to justify inclusion.
Let’s face it, if it goes tits up you play an early wildcard which most do anyway.
JRod has always scored well when fit.
If I go with the cheap 3rd striker which is likely J. Rod will definitely be up there for consideration.
+ Jesus and Firmino too Think should go for cheap defenders only 😉
I’ve tried a draft with the big name/money strikers. It doesn’t actually look too bad. I’m finding it more difficult to decide which premium midfielders are nailed on starters – doing it this way makes it very easy to bring in a cheap striker for whichever of the top three doesn’t look like firing early season for better mids.
Of course, this is only my 8th draft so probably a couple more dozen to go before I get near to finalising my team
Hey Robbo, how you doing mate?
Those strikers just kill your midfield eh? However, this team could work well with a view to an early wildcard as the fixtures for your men look good early doors.
I’m good thanks Cookie – all well with yourself I hope.
I’m more likely to go for a cheap striker (Gayle or J-Rod) instead of Kane based on fixtures, but just wanted to see what could be done with this front three. Not much beyond making the start of the season a huge gamble it turns out…
This is a super front-heavy team! One of the front three can go and maybe fortify the mid a bit?
Hey guys wound it be FF suicide going without Luk ????
I’m hoping not. United don’t do offense and that doesn’t look likely to change soon. Also Lukaku is showing the same heavy touch in pre-season as he always does. How he scores that many goals is a miracle. I’m gonna watch him vs. ManCity tomorrow, and see how he does.
course not Silvers. United’s goals will be shared around, he is the ultimate troll. Sadly his high ownership dictates that many managers will be scared to go without him.
If Kane was the same price as Lukaku I’d be going with Kane and Alli. I kind of need the extra million though
cheers guys at present Luk not in my draft but still a lg way to go 😉
How much do we think Hernandez will be? West Ham have agreed a deal
7,5
Smash
First off, I think it is a brilliant signing. I really hope he fits in well and does himself justice. In truth I think there is a bigger move in him than West Ham but I guess it is the draw of the Premier League.
Let’s have a guess: £9.0M?
9 mil?! Bit steep I’d say 7.5 and if so I will definitely keep my eye on him.
I actually meant £8.0M and realised once posted.
I can see that happening too. Could be a brilliant 3rd striker.
Thanks guys. Certainly a great signing he’s always scored goals. Surprised he’s on his way to West Ham. Yeah I was thinking 7.5
heres my team atm, I’m liking the value in midfield… with even Alli being decent value for what he punched out last year, however Im thinking of dropping him for Salah because he has looked electric so far, any thoughts on that move and the team overall?
MainMane
Like the Austin pick – just monitor that he plays at the end of pre-season. Could be a great shout.
Like your squad a lot. Nice job.
Really I’m hating the value of the midfielders. That’s a pretty nice team. Obviously keep an eye on Austin
Mainmane.. I’d keep Alli.. Thinking if starting with him myself. Dual Gunners worry me.. Rest looks fine
What are people doing with their GKs? Not sure what to do. First two options would be paired with Elliot.
1. Courtois and Bailly
2. DDG and Luiz
3. Two 4.5 keepers.
That’s one for the deadline day Matt!
We’ll need to work out how we fit five strikers in to three spaces first.
Haha yeah I thought I’d try and change it up a bit this year and start with the “easy” decisions first but that’s not working out. How’s your team coming along?
To answer your question seriously, I have Foster and Myhill and putting all my eggs in one Baggie basket.
I need to save money there and it probably will be the same come the final call.
The latest was
Foster/Myhill
Cedric/Trippier/Yedlin/Naughton/Lowton
KDB/Salah/Pogba/Walters/Mesa
Kane/Lukaku/Gayle
Haven’t looked at it for 2/3 days though.
Yeah I’m currently going with Foster and Ryan as rotation but if Elliot is nailed on then it will probably be Foster and Elliot.
Some different names in that midfield which I like. Who’s Mesa though? Differential to RLC?
Matt
He’s Swansea’s new signing from Las Palmas. It will be him or Carroll ultimately I think.
Hmm Cheers GP. Will have to keep an eye on him then as I don’t know if RLC will start for Palace.
Mesa is a nice player, but the quintessential 4.5 holding mid. He will likely have more yellows than goals and assists combined.
Thanks Mito
I read in the first friendly against Philadelphia that he hit the bar. From a Tom Carroll corner funnily enough! I fancy both are more assured than RLC at this stage.
Definitely!
I’m very interested to see if Elliot looks like playing, as he rotates very nicely with Heaton in the early part of the season which comes out the same cost as 2 x 4.5m. At the minute I’m doubling WBA though and that extra 0.5m will surely come in handy elsewhere!
