New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva, Ederson and Kyle Walker
Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Manchester City Bernardo Silva and Ederson. Continuing with our series of player previews and we arrive at Manchester City. I’m sure we can all agree that City were something of a disappointment last season eventually finishing 3rd. Now finishing 3rd might be considered an achievement for many clubs but not a club who had installed Pep Guardiola as manager and had invested in the likes of Nolito, Gundogan, Jesus, Sane and John ‘I can’t defend’ Stones. 3rd place will not be accepted this season and with this in mind Pep has once again been busy splashing the cash. It’s no surprise to see a new keeper arrive but I’m not sure they needed another midfielder! Let’s take a closer look at their new arrivals.
Bernardo Silva
Position: Midfielder
FPL Price: £8.0m

[/three_fifth]With one Silva coming towards the end of his career, City decided to splash the cash and get a shiny new one!! Bernardo Silva will be turning 23 soon but is still at the start of his career so I would believe him to take over in the midfield from his older namesake who will more than likely see less game time. Bernardo plays predominately on the right wing and uses that left foot of his to cut inside but can play in the middle and on the left so Pep may use him as a centre behind Jesus and Aguero, this could lead to a vast number of assists for the Portuguese man. Bernardo moved to Monaco on loan from Benfica back in 2014 and made the move permanent in 2015. Since then Bernardo has become almost prolific for Monaco appearing 147 times, scoring 28 goals and assisting a further 19. Last season alone he scored 11 goals and assisted 12 in all competitions. Competition for places, especially in attacking areas remains the biggest downside to the likes of Sane, Sterling, both Silva’s and KdB but if preseason gives any indication that Bernardo Silva is likely to be a regular starter then we would strongly recommend him for your FPL squad.
Ederson
Position: Goalkeeper
FPL Price: £5.5m

[/three_fifth]Peanut butter and jelly, Bert and Ernie, City and spending money!! All things that are synonymous with each other. This time last season City were raving about the signing of former Barcelona keeper, Claudio Bravo but after a poor season City have gone back into the market spending £35 million on the 24-year-old Brazilian, Ederson, from Benfica. The young goal stopper is obviously seen as the long-term No.1 for City with 121 top flight appearances in the Primeira Liga conceding 109 goals in that time. The youngster should walk straight into the City team even after Bravo’s Confed “Heroics” and with City’s winnable fixtures Ederson could add some early clean sheets to his City resume. One downfall, or worry, to Ederson is he gets rather a lot of yellow cards for a keeper; during his time at Rio Ave he received 10 yellow cards and with Benfica he received 7, 5 of which came last season. The way English football is going Ederson could be in line for a card suspension but it is a bridge to cross when, and if, we come to it!
Kyle Walker
Position: Defender
FPL Price: 6.5mln
[three_fifth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fifth]City paying north of £50mln for an average defender for a second successive season surprised no-one really. Walker’s move to the Etihad has been expected for months and first came to light during the run-in last season as Poch preferred Trippier, clearly knowing that Walker would be offski sooner rather than later. Well it took longer than expected, Daniel Levy got his extra shekel and another part of Spurs new ground has just been paid off. I make no apologies for calling Walker an average defender – I genuinely believe he is, but I will admit that his skills going forward are excellent – six assists last season tells its own story, it was the highest number by any defender and one would expect those stats to continue or even improve at City. Now my view on Walker’s defending should not be confused with me advising you not to own him – if City can get and then keep Vincent Kompany fit we have seen City can keep things tight. However, 6.5mln for a defender sees Walker priced in the upper echelon of defenders and at this stage of preseason I would suggest that using that much of your budget on a defender who’s best chance of a clean sheet depends on whether his injury prone captain can stay fit seems rather a luxury to me. That view may change if Pep strengthens his defence further, because City certainly have the fixtures to start well. The main message I think here is that Walker’s move to City has just made Trippier a hugely viable FPL assest at 5.5mln.

The Fixture Tracker…
Guys, pardon me asking, but is the regulars league going to get renewed automatically or we have to send an email again?
Need to send an email mate. We’re gonna have a H2H with promotion and relegation this year too.
Hey Banjo.. How are you mate? Thank you for the reply. I’ll send a mail to Elle then. Also, need to have more info about the H2H with promotion and relegation thing. Adding to it, Initt had promised to find a partner for me to participate in the doubles league. Hope he remembers. Haha..
Doing very well thanks. Had a busy summer – and looking forward to rekindling the FPL addiction. How’s your break been? There was a little more info re the H2H stuff in another post, but can’t remember where. Elle would be best placed to give you all the details. The idea is to keep the interest/banter up. Sounds like a great idea to me (although I’m a little scared of being bottom of the conference 😉 )
Whats this about the Conference Banjo ? Your in the Sunday afternoon league for now. :big-lol:
Any more presumptions and it’ll be further demotion to the SPFL Banjo!
😉
Ahh shit… What have I done?! Do I need to fold and start up AFC Banjomaker?
Looking forward to this H2H! Will def get the banter going amongst us!
I’m yet to post a RMT, finding settling on a team more tricky than ever so I’m just going to do a Raz and hold it till the last minute! ( bout time Raz showed up by the way!!)
Might try my hand a doubles if I can get a partner this year!
Rosco, Waxys needs a partner.
Not sure I could handle his fleeting infatuations! If you’ve been on FFS lately you’ll have seen his latest…. Mertisacker… I shit you not!!!
lol mito
Hi constant, details are at the end of the article above. More in depth details are achieved on the Hot Comments tab (the red comments above the Latest ones). Just click on the last one, it’ll take you there.
As for the doubles just ask around on here and see who wants to play. I’m sure Elle will put a comment up about entering it at some point.
hehehe, poor Banjo
Can you tell how hard I looked 😉
Evening gents,
No idea what became of my last partner (NiN) so I’m happy to double up with someone to start the season fresh.
Hey Web, hope you’re well.
Blind Date time constant
Dunno if I qualify as a regular over here, but I would be interested in this action. However my main concern is that this site is my Ace up the sleeve, and I don’t want to let my rivals/friends in on my ‘cheat sheet’. Is there a solution to this conundrum?
Or is the point moot coz I don’t qualify?
Course yopu qualify Nike
You qualify Nike but its up to you if you enter or not.
Agian Elle did you get my mail ? 😛
Certainly did Wafflez. Webstar, i got yours the other day. Your both in.
Hello peeps, seen the Hernandez to West Ham deal and it looks like Mendy is on his way to City to play LB.
Was wondering if this season is the biggest in terms of big name strikers or just big names in general in FPL. I want to say it was a lot easier coming to a conclusion on a front 3 the last couple of seasons than this.
Yeah there are certainly loads of options up top. Can’t see me wanting to play 3-5-2 this season. The big names are coming to England because of the money. I can see more and more coming if the English sides start performing in the champions league
Let’s hope for 6.5 lol the same as big Andy
At 16m was rather hoping Chico escaped the ‘big name’ tag as that would mean a big price.
7.5 too much to hope?
I mean it is West Ham,, not like Chelsea or anything.
Just need to get my head round the Hammers not having a big bonce up front, have they practiced ball below 6’6 yet.
Then I might be looking at 3 up front after all.
Mito, do you rate him? You’ve probably seen more of more recently than I have with him playing for Mexico. And being their all time leading goal scorer apparently, I just learned!
At Man United I was never convinced – his touch was awful. He clearly wasn’t up to their standard at that stage and Fergie tellingly used him as an impact sub, purely for goals. Which is what he’s actually really good at. I was massively surprised when Madrid took him. Obviously it was a bit of a back up move but even so.
I never did rate him, but when he played for Madrid he was useful, not strangely though, as an impact sub. Didn’t see any of him in Germany, sounds like he did well though.
I am on the fence about him.
Noticed De Boer said RLC has to “play himself into the team”
Ruh roh Shaggy
Well there’s always Carrol. Delphi might be an option if he signs for Stoke as well
Great to be back! A day away from FF247 is a day wasted.
Haven’t read shite about who’s-who concerning most new players, so as you can see I not sure if there are any good budget strikers or cheapo defenders.
Draft one …
Welcome back mate! That looks like a decent enough start. Well ok, you’re 15 players ahead of me in mine so far anyway! Only Barnes jumps out there but I think everyone is still waiting for pre-season to unfold and unearth that spot anyway, off that’s the route you choose to take.
Thanks Innit! Lots of surprises yet to unfold. See you around.
its pretty similar to mine but urs is worse
Thanks Luke! ;).
Morning all, someone tried e-mailing me last night but it was not allowed through as gmail said it contained a virus. I presume it was about the Regulars Leagues. If it was you please post here to let me know who you were.
Cheers.
I tried emailing you last night via BlackBerry Hub. Not sure why it’d kick up as a virus :s
Rashford scored again. At 7.5 he’s becoming very interesting
