New Signings – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16. Milner, Ings, Firminho
Liverpool were poor last season, actually they were worse than that but for the sake of our younger readers let’s stick with poor! Their defenders made a catalogue of errors over the course of the season, while up front they struggled for goals. It therefore comes as no surprise that Brendan Rodgers has been busy in the transfer market, although as we’ve seen in the past this is not necessarily a good thing! They’ve replaced Brad Jones with Adam Bogdan whom unsurprisingly we won’t be covering in one of these articles, 18 year old centre back Joe Gomez has arrived from Charlton and as he’s likely to be one for the future we won’t include him either. We took a look at Nathaniel Clyne in an earlier article and today we’ll focus on James Milner, Danny Ings and Firmino.
James Milner

Age: 29
Signed From: Free agent (previously Manchester City)

Why has James Milner left Manchester City? A club with whom he won two league title and will challenge again this season, and who offered him a four year contract worth up to £165k a week. It is likely that he has been assured of his game time at Anfield, but where Brendan Rodgers will play him is not immediately obvious, although reports have suggested that he will be handed his preferred role in central midfield. One possible scenario would see him played alongside Jordan Henderson with a more defensive minded player behind them or they could form the defensive base of a midfield three with a more attacking player ahead of them. Should he be offered a somewhat attacking role from central midfield position he could prove to be an interesting fantasy option, particularly as he’s priced at just £7.0m. During his time at City he spent most of his time operating in a wide role, a position from which his influence is limited and his lack of pace exposed. However in his final season at Villa, the last season in which he was a consistent starter he chalked up 184 points thanks to seven goals, 12 assists and 35 bonus points. One thing is for sure and that is that wherever Rodgers chooses to play him Milner will give everything for his new club and while he should not be viewed as a replacement for a certain Steven Gerrard his experience will help fill the leadership gap which Gerrard’s departure has created. Finally, while Milner has been handed Liverpool’s famous no.7 jersey, I wouldn’t expect him to hit the heights of those who have worn the jersey in bygone years!

Danny Ings
Liverpool
Age: 22
Signed From: Burnley
Fee: To be decided by tribunal[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

Is Danny Ings the next Rickie Lambert? Liverpool fans will certainly be hoping that the answer is no! In the two seasons prior to joining Liverpool Lambert scored 28 goals in 75 Premier League appearances for Southampton, while in his only season in the Premier League Ings scored 11 in 35 games for Burnley. Both Liverpool fans and FPL managers will be hoping that Ings has more of an impact at Anfield than Lambert managed last season. I’m not going to compare the two but one big difference is that Ings is only 22 and will surely continue to develop as a player, whereas Lambert was 32 when he joined the club. So what can we expect from Ings? It will all depend on how he himself handles the move. While Liverpool can no longer be considered a top 4 club there will be still be an awful lot more pressure placed upon him at Anfield than there was at Turf Moor. Currently Liverpool have five forwards (I use the term loosely!) in Sturridge, Lambert, Borini, Balotelli & Ings himself, actually there’s six, how could I forget Divock Origi. With Lambert, Borini & Balotelli all likely to leave the club over the remainder of the transfer window and Sturridge unlikely to be fit for the start of the season, Ings could find himself as the clubs only recognised striker come August 8th. Obviously the club continue to be linked with Christian Benteke, and it seems highly unlikely that another will not be brought in before the window closes. One thing is for sure and when he is given his opportunity he will work endlessly for the good of the team. He can hold the ball up well, win aerial duels and can finish with both feet. He has the ability to link up with the midfield and wide men which would see him fit into either a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system, both commonly used by Rodgers. Should Rodgers choose to play two up top Ings could also be effective. Just like Lambert last season Ings has been priced at £7.5m. Is this good value? I would advise you to wait & see how Ings settles into life at Anfield, this will also allow you to assess how Liverpool’s new signings gel together.

Firmino
Liverpool
Age: 23
Signed From: Hoffenheim
Fee: £29m[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

Let’s be honest, Firmino is one of those players who the vast majority of us had never heard of back in May. It wasn’t until the papers linked him with a move to United that most of us took any notice of him. He began his career with Figueirense in the second tier of Brazilian football before moving to Hoffenheim in 2010. It’s said that he initially struggled to adapt to foreign climes, which is good news for Liverpool, and he took three seasons for his talents to emerge. Since the start of the 2013/14 season he has weighed in with 23 goals & 21 assists, and has been one of the stand out performers in the Bundesliga. It remains to be seen where Brendan Rodgers plans to play the Brazilian, at Hoffenheim he spent most of his time playing directly behind a striker in something of a free role, although he is also capable of leading the line. He is a great dribbler, has excellent technique and as his recent stats demonstrate, he can finish. In 2013/14 Liverpool adopted a high pressing approach but the loss of Luis Suarez meant they struggled to press teams last season. Firmino is not only a flair player, he is also known for his work rate and his arrival could see Liverpool get back to playing on the front foot. Liverpool will be hoping that he and his compatriot Philippe Coutinho form an immediate understanding on the pitch and if this is the case, Firmino could very well prove to be an interesting FPL prospect, particularly if Liverpool have a striker knocking in the goals on a regular basis.

Nice article Kop, cheers. Clyne and Milner seem sensible moves from a Value perspective. Firmino is class and having addapted to Hoffenheim he won’t struglle with that (unlike Coutinho, for instance, who did). Also he comes in after Brasil caps which will tranquilise him. I’m thinking he’ll be nailed on and probably behind the striker with Milner on the wings.
Hi guys any comments on my team so far?
Cech, Hamer
Azpi, Clyne, Richards, Mings, Alderwiereld
Hazard, Depay, Cabaye, Sterling, Coquelin
Costa, Deeney, Beneteke
I wouldnt get Cabaye with the fixtures Palace have and Coquelin I’m not sure is a definite starter.
Hey Bmac agree with MattX Cabaye get rid until games improve , Sterling too much for me , Coq might not start but keep an eye on
Ok looking at them again think you are right with Cabaye il have a re think, thanks for your comments
Hi guys. Here is my team, trying to make it balanced but will just like some advice. Suggestions appreciated
Harry13
Hey Harry , Haban and Baker could be none starters so I would defo lose Terry for Azpil & get two 4.5m Def I would also change Punch CRY fixtures are tough to being with , rest of team ok
I see that United have formally announced Schnederlin and Schweinsteiger…….. Schnedierlin 5.5mln in FPL, the one-legged German to be added.
thanks cookie
How you going Tom? Having a good summer?
I’m not bad cookie. Can’t wait for this season to begin. Break’s been good so far, although the aussies lost the first test. You?
Great thanks Tom, England won the first test :hippo:
haha, Mr. Bean would be better at cricket than Shane Watson
lol – reckon he gets booted for the second test?
I would think Mitchell Marsh in – Spudson out
I reckon so – Marsh been in decent form. Starc a big worry too
Siddle in for Starc probably
There’s some talk that Haddin might be dropped.
Starc out would be a massive loss
So Dizzy’s “old men” comment, which the Aussies laughed off……………
I’m not going to have a team if Haddin is dropped
I can see hadds being axed for this test. We do have some good young keepers coming through the ranks at the moment. Peter Nevil should come in if hadds goes.
Silver, have you read the rules?
Yes Kop wouldn’t it be nice to have unlimited subs in the FPL @ no cost 😉
I wonder what De Gea makes of these transfers…
He’s dead to me NIN
Yikes!
Getting now Scheneider and 3 other Utd players allows you to play with 4 Utd players!
that’s bullish DMC!!
Lol, nope. But is that what you really want? :p
You could do the same with Sterling and 3 other City players by the way.
I just did! 4 + 4 from Manchester! Just in case I’d want that after the transfers are done. How’s that for early useless tinkering?
The question should be: ”What is the point, DMC?”
I mean, DDG is leaving United, Rojo is shite and Schneiderlin will play even less advanced than when he played for Soton. Him and Schweini will defend the defence.
Cant have any more than three players from one team mate. There is no way around it.
You can have 4 players from a team by using the methods described here, but you won’t be able to make transfers until you get rid of one of them, so it’s not that good an idea.
I’ve never seen or heard of FPL allowing 4 players from one club to be in our team. I bet if you try and field 4 in GW 1 they’ll do something about it.
If you have 3 players from one club and another player in your team is transferred to the club you have 3 players from, then you’ll have 4 players from that team. It’s not allowed to have 4 players, hence you have to sell one of the 4 players before you can make any other transfer.
Yes you can, In fact you can have 15 if they Belong to different teams when you get them In.
Teks, not sure about that. I emailed fpl a few years Back for a similar situation involving a minileague opponent and i dont recall them saying that but only that the 3 players per rule would apply if you messed with the involved players…
Anyway this is just tinkering wise i dont plan on getting schneiderlin nor 4 City attackers. Would migs, clyne, milner, tekkers interest anyone though ?
I know how it works, i’m just saying that it wont work. I guarantee that if you start with 4 players in your starting 11, all from the same team, then FPL will do something about it. It’s against the rules. If it was a viable option then we’d all be doing it every season and then just selling the extra player in GW2.
You’re not quite right on this NIN mate. I was able to find that email (2008) where Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez all played for a given GW winner – see pic.
Also it’s on FAQ’s for this year’s edition too on the “What happens if a player is transferred to another Barclays Premier League team?” link.
So it’s like Tekno said, you can do it, all players will score for you if you play them but you’ll need to correct the bug before any other transfers.
It will work for any GW before the deadline closes and for the January window.
Not sure if it will actually come handy at this point.
In fairness, DMC, that email is 7 years old! I’ve contacted them to see what happens in this situation. My guess is that if you have four in your first 11 it will randomly auto-sub one out until you actually sell one of them.
Oh there’s no way they would do that! That would be against the rules. The rule is “You can select up to 3 players from a single” team and that wouldn’t have been breached in the examples above. You selected them without breaching the rule; they then changed team which is a different thing.
FPL changing your team against your will simply can’t happen I think.
Anyway, pls share with us the answer!
Cheers mate.
The email might be 7 years old but I’m pretty sure that this is what would happen.
Your next transfer has to fix the issue. We last came across this during the Jan transfer window and looked into it then just to be sure.
Init is right, when you have 4 players from the same team because of a transfer, in the real world, the 1st transfer you make has to be one of them.
Looks like I need to make a tactical change take Starc out put in ??? not that its going to make much difference to my team
Wait till Thursday Silver
Me again – if you look under the Tips tab at the top of the page and the “Fixture Tracker”, you will find Mito’s tracker for the six week’s fixtures, beautifully coloured to show ease of each fixture.
Also below that in the same place, you will see the Rotation table – Mito has been busy and it’s much appreciated, thank mate!
Anyone seen Init’s yellow crayon? I promised I return it.
He keeps it very safe at this time of the year in preparation for GW1 – he also has a mobile version, allegedly.
I have it here. I’m using it to draw a picture of the website so I can carry it around with me and look at it when I’m bored and reminisce about the good old days #yesterday
At this minuet I’m thinking of starting with a dead player as my 5th Def as I cant find a starter for 4m anyone else
Aaah. AT the moment I’m with the guy from Norwich, but he’ll probably not be a starter. On that note. You never know. Last year I gambled and 2 out of the 3 didn’t pay off. Bwahahaha. Or with , 1 out of 2. Soon to be 2 out of 2 though.
