Playing the DGWs with a Difference – Wildcard in GW32!!
I had planned to play my Wildcard in GW 33 in order to play the Bench Boost chip in GW 34. As I looked for a few calculated moves that would be good for GW32 I noticed that there were some teams and players that I felt had huge potential that week who weren’t in my existing team. This sparked me to consider what it would be like to Wildcard for GW32 and develop a plan that would prepare my team well for the weeks around the doubles. The major danger here is players getting injured during GW’s 32 & 33 leading up to the double. The other issue is that there are a few players I would love to have for the DGW in 34 who are not currently fit. I would need to either take a risk and bring them in with fingers crossed or forego having them in my team. If I decide to WC for GW 32 it will be after weighing these potential pitfalls thoroughly and feeling the benefits outweigh the dangers.
Here is a quick run down of my (possible) plan to WC leading up to GW 32. I’m not convinced of it 100% yet but I am leaning in that direction.
Reasons for considering WC now:
Right now I have 5 DGW34 players: Hennessy, Moreno, Silva, Ozil, Kun.
1. I am not 100% sold on keeping any of them for the DGW. There are better options for GKs who play in 35. There are better defenders and also better Liverpool defenders if I choose to have one (Sakho/Clyne). I’d rather have Sanchez than Ozil in my WC team as he’s picking up form and much more explosive. Silva isn’t convincing at the moment and I may want KDB, if any City midfielder. Kun has been dealt with in other articles. Suffice it to say that I want him but he takes up so much cash. I may try to dodge a bullet and lose him, depending on what other players that opens up for me. I would be really hesitant to lose him for 32 &33 though, especially after seeing what Kane just did to Bournemouth and with them having WBA in 33. Kun will likely be the only one to stay.
2. There are players/teams I want for GW 32 that I don’t currently have. I’d like 3 Arsenal against Watford, 2 Chelsea for Villa, and at least 2 WHU vs Palace, all in 32. I’d also like to keep those Chelsea players for GW 33 against Swansea.
3. I envision the transfer market going a bit crazy over the next few weeks, with the template being dismantled and DGW players being transferred in at an alarming rate. The likes of Lukaku, Coutinho, Bellerin, and others have already begun to rise, while some of my other players have already dropped. I could envision many of my players dropping over the coming few weeks as I wait to play my WC. On the flip side, playing my WC now will allow me to miss the drops and take advantage of the rises of those DGWers being brought in by the boatload. My dream team for DGW 34 could be out of my reach if I wait to play my WC and I could see myself having to recreate the wheel every day with price changes. The early WC eliminates that minefield.
4. In short, playing my Wildcard early will give me a potentially massive advantage over both those not playing their Wildcard for GW 34 and those waiting until GW 33. The non-WCers will take hits to work toward the double and those playing WC in 33 will probably not be able to take advantage of Chelsea against Villa and WHU against Palace to the degree that I will. This means fielding a great team for GWs 32, 33, 34, and 35 with some planning. Without further ado, here is that plan!
Here is what I hope my WC team will look like going into GW 32…
There are obviously 3 players left to be chosen in this team, with 16.1m left to spend on them. With these players likely be one of the following combinations:
1. Marcus Rashford will fill the third striker role, Cech will be my second keeper, and Cresswell will fill the last defender slot.
2. If Rashford gets sent back to the bench with Rooney’s return then things get a bit trickier. Welbeck will likely take the last role, which means budget friendly options at the back: Elliot & Johnny Evans.
Azpilicueta & Willian will become Coutinho & Sakho with my 2 free transfers for GW34, meaning my BB’ed team for GW34 will look like this:
It pains me to be at the mercy of Rooney and LVG, but that is the way the cookie crumbles. Hopefully this plan can be helpful to a few others out there. Snookie, I’m looking at you here!

THE FIXTURE TRACKER
Hi all,
Apologies if this has already been mentioned but at 4.8m is Caballero city a good shout for DGW?
Hey Toby, based on City’s form I’d say no but Caballero is a good player so if you need the funds he wouldn’t be bad plus he’d be a differential.
Hart due back in a week or so, so not a good option in my opinion St Toby.
Cheers MattX I was thinking of pairing him up with DDG as he misses wk35 and big willy has a home game against Stoke. After that it wont matter too much if Hart comes back in
oh dear no double for city in wk37 so back to the drawing board
That won’t matter unless you were going to BB that week. Bigger concern is Hart being back for GW35.
How does this WC team look for GW33? not sure what to do with that final spot do I go cheap and upgrade Foster or Lingard or do I go with a City defender?
Better post the pic haha
Matt,
How about Hennessey or Robles instead of Foster
Sunderland, Leicester, Norwich defender for that last spot.
And Lennon for Lingard?
Matt, just realised you’re going without Lukaku.
Hey Cook I like the Robles and Lennon moves they would be nice differentials only thing i dont like is their fixtures. I am going without Lukaku mainly because of the fixtures.
Also why Leicester, Norwich or Sunderland none of them have a DGW in 34??
Sunderland and Norwich have a DGW in 38 and i was thinking in advance. Leicester speaks for itself and have good fixtures up to and including 35.
Just trying to think of possibilities for that 5th slot at the back.
I’d also say that Everton’s fixtures have improved dramatically with their DGW33.
Four matches in 2GWs.
Oh I didn’t notice Evertons DGW in 33 think I’ll be going with Robles and Lennon now, think I’ll give Lukaku a miss though I just fancy Welbeck and Arsenal for the remainder of the season. And was just looking at Norwich and I’m thinking Russel is the best bet on that team?
Not an expert on Norwich defenders but i see Klose has been getting some bonus points.
Cheers Cook, Klose could be a great differential as 0.0% of people have him haha. I have a week to decide anyway but it’ll be between Martin and Klose I think
Right lads, a lot of chip talk but turning my attention to the next GW, I’m looking at AOA.
My team could be:
Elliot
Bellerin Morgan
Payet Mahrez Alli* Siggy* Lingard*
Vardy Kun Kane
Bench – Forster; Walker, Bertrand, William. (2 FTs, 6.1m ITB)
I will be using my WC next GW so don’t mind loosing Alli. Could lose any of them 3 and am looking at getting Ozil, Coutinho, William in… Have £17.6m ITB for two mids (I’m only making two transfers, wont be taking a hit, ML too close). My other plan was to save the AOA and get maybe Courtois and Kos in for Forster & Bertrand and try get a good defensive score this week. With that, and if planning goes to plan, my AOA could be next best used in GW36.
Potential GW36 AOA team:
Robles
Bellerin Gabriel
Payet Ozil Firmino Mahrez Barkley
Vardy Kun Lukaku
Bench – Mignolet; Sakho, ‘Lei D’, ‘Spurs D’
Obviously the GW36 team could be different due to injures and changes to WC plans etc but what week would be better to play AOA? I have the 2 FTs this week so can really get any 2 players and could field a strong 11.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated, my ML is so close that a right play of even the AOA chip could be the difference. I see less CS’s in my team this week (than GW36) and am currently leaning towards using it.
Hey Rambo, some good planning there mate and from my reading of it I’d be leaning towards using it next week not GW36 if that’s any use to you.
Yeah Matt, I’m leaning towards that the more I think about it.
It isn’t the best chip but it could work out well next week.
Rambo, not sure that the AOA will make too much of a difference, I haven’t seen anyone who has played it and it’s been a huge game changer.
Anyway for this week, with 2fts, how about Courtois and Fabregas at Villa?
Courtois
Bellerin Morgan
Payet Mahrez Siggy Alli Fabregas
Vardy Kun (C) Kane
I like the look of that Cook!!
Cool Rambo, these one week punts are fun but don’t always come off, but it looks good!
I’ve been tinkering away most of the afternoon looking at options for my WC team, what do you think to this one?
You have a few people in there I’m not sure off, like Sturridge can get injured if the wind blows too strong, Flanno is a rotation risk but personally I love the lad and would play him ahead of any Pool defender and I don’t like doubling up on Utd defence unless it was DDG and a defender. Just my two cents though.
Don’t you think Flanno will be nailed for the first DGW as he is not in the Europa League squad? And if they beat Dortmund the same for the 2nd game week as the stronger team would have played on May 5th. Maybe rotated for the 2nd game against Chelsea but it all depends on what injuries are picked up between now and GW37 and the biggie is for Liverpool to beat Dortmund and whether there is a flicker of a chance for Europa League places.
I think Studge will be kept back for the Europa and won’t be risked for the Prem and definitely not for 2 games in a week.
Most of the teams playing in the cup in GW35 will rotate in the 2nd game of GW34. City play PSG on April 6th and 12th and then a DGW with the first one against Chelsea. What sort of team will they put out if they still need top 4 or not as its going to be 6 games in 2 weeks from gw32.?
So 3 Arsenal,1 Man Utd defender and Rashford, 1 Liverpool and Flanno& Migs, keep Kane and Mahrez 1 Watford and fill in the rest when all the teamtalks come in before gw33.
That sounds alright for a template Kruz, I think with Liverpool’s defence though Klopp could end up throwing Brad Smith back into the lineup for the DGWs, he played well in the 90 min’s for Australia yesterday so I think Klopp had options now but Flanno should be first. As for City I haven’t a clue what sort of defence they will have probably Otamendi is the best option to be fair.
Don’t like it Mitro to be honest. Don’t trust Sturridge, KDB doesn’t perform away historically and no West Ham.
Wouldn’t put Studge in there Mitro. He may be the starter in the Europa cup to try and get past Dortmond, so may be rested in the league. Oh and plus what Matt says about the wind.
Cheers guys – it looks like I will be going with a earlier version of my WC team.
I hope I don’t see this in GW 33 & 34; #onlyidiotssellmahrez
No Utd attacking coverage Mitro, especially with Vanilla and Palace at home in 34 ? I can’t decide my 3 forwards, its between, Kun, Lukaku, Welbeck or Martial.
None of them appeal to me mate! Happy to double up on defence and leave it as that
Mitro, as a Gooner are you tempted by Alexis for DGW34 and beyond? Fixtures look ideal for him.
I really don’t know cookie! I want to bring him in but he has let me down so many times this season!!
But he’s a better bet than KDB surely? Coming into form and loves to score vs the “lesser clubs”.
True! I will have a look and see what I can come up with
Don’t let me push you somewhere you don’t want to go Mitro, it just seems that he would be a great option for the double and with the fixtures after.
I guess i’m just surprised I haven’t seen him in more WC teams.
I guess its cos he hasn’t been as explosive as last season, though all the reports that his form in recent weeks has been much improved.
Cookie – agree on Sanchez. Looks like a must have for 34. I have him for several weeks now and ita payback time. About the WC teams we’ve seen without him I think it’s because People are strugling to combine him, aguero and decent enough doublers. Oh sergio sergio…
I get that DMC, but surely with a wildcard he is doable with Kun, especially when you bear in mind the fixtures not only in DGW34 after also, aligned also with no Cup commitments hence little rotation risk?
That’s my view anyway.
Mitro, you said it best yourself regards Mahrez. I don’t think he can be lost, especially with 68% ownership. In his one game he could outscore any DGW player.
Gents,
Any defenders who are 4.2 and will play both games in GW34?
No but Simpson of Leics is 4.2 with Southampton at home. Soare of Palace is 4.2 but will he play?
Mitro, what has Silva done to merit a place in your wildcard team? Obviously he has a double, but does his form and City’s form justify a place, when you are scrambling around for pennies to get a 5th defender?
Isn’t keeping Mahrez better? That will give you cash to turn Rojo to Smalling and give you more cash for your 5th defender.
Kruz I’ve asked a respected Palace fan on twitter, yet to get a response, but my gut says no he’s not. Other than him there are few to choose Mitro, if any.
evening lads,
these chips are headaches!
when do you plan to use TC? i’m tempted to put Alexis in charge for this duty in 34, but playing BB would be more reasonable…
anyone from gw37?
Hey Dawids,
For me the fixtures in GW34 are more appealing than 37, hence I would BB in 34, especially if I were wildcarding in 32 or 33. An extra four players playing twice should surely outscore a TC. That’s my view anyway.
So onto 37 and I guess the best fixtures are West Ham? Which brings Payet into play? You could of course use TC in a single gameweek and Alexis could still be a great candidate given Arsenal’s fixtures in 35, 36 & 38.
Cookie
Thoughts?
Morning Mitro,
For 33 & 34 it looks great, but like Jumpers below, for 35 you have probs – Smalling, Darmian, Delaney, Coleman, Barkley, Payet and Lukaku all blanking.
Cookie – I would take a hit thay week and do 3 transfers!
this WC malarkey is hard work!!
Mitro, what happened to the “hit therapy” that was working so well?!
Ha ha! I’m allowed a few relapses over the next few GWs
3 transfers would still only leave you 10 for GW35 wouldn’t it? Check my maths as I’m still half asleep, but if true, that seems a tad over the top – even for you
Yes it would leave me with 10 mate, I would only be doing a -4 so it shouldn’t hurt me too much, just hope that my BB pays off and I take the lead in my ML
Mitro, it’s your call as to how you play it and whether you think playing your wildcard with that squad will outweighs having 9 available players 2 GWs later!
I thought these chips would be easy to use! It’s just causing me headache after headache
Hahahaha
Well at least you’re approaching the business end of the season with your chips and wildcard in tact and with a great ranking also.
You have a good problem, trust me 😉
I suppose you are right, just worried that using my WC could upset the balance of my team, I have managed to close the gap in my main ML to 14 points (it was 76 a few weeks ago)! But then again surely getting in 14/15 players for a DGW should get me some serious points?!
I never chased the DGW for Austin and benetke last year and it cost me my ML!!
Yes I remember last season well. The lesson there was don’t ignore those teams still fighting….irrelevant of how poor they are going into the crunch period.
Maybe I should just go all gung Ho in GW33 and deal with the consequences in GW35!!
Bloody Austin, why did you remind me of that one Mitro :noshake:
Morning guys. 10 on a -4 doesn’t sound too bad to me Mitro. Not ideal obviously but how much better off will most others be?
Didn’t Austin finish on like 44 points or something? That GW broke my heart
Yeah as capo it was something like 44 or 42. Twas a serious kick in the knackers!
Don’t forget Benteke and Phillips too!
Who will be this season’s Villa and QPR?
Palace!!!
Ugh, Phillips. Didn’t have him either. Lets stop this now okay? It’s too much.
Hey dawids, that’s a very good question for those with no wc left to play. I suppose it depends how the fixtures lineup for whatever amount of doubles can be got with ft’s + sgw fixtures. Those with the wc remaining are best served using bb for 34 though i think. For 37 t-capo pick i’d be looking at Firmino / Coutinho or Naismith.
Just kidding of course, one of those or Payet 😉
haha cheers NIN! if i will deploy the TC in 37 then i still have 1,5 month to figure it out
