The HCT (Hull City Tigers anyone?) No . . . oh well, ‘Hull’ then, begun their first ever European campaign last night in Slovakia where they secured a 0-0 draw with Trencin. The second leg of this is Thursday 7th followed by a friendly in Stuttgart on the Sunday (10th). Thereafter if they qualify next week, they face the final play-off round for the Europa League on Thursday 21st and 28th August – just as the Premier League campaign is beginning to take off. Beware rotation in the Hull ranks.
[divider_1px]
So there you have it – up to date on all pre-season (and relevant European) matters so what have we learned?
HOT:
Stevan Jovetic
The Manchester City striker has had a great pre-season so far scoring four goals in his last two matches against Milan and Liverpool. Those Edin Dzeko supporters who were rubbing their hands excitedly after Alvaro Negredo’s injury will now be wringing their hands nervously at the form of the Montenegrin. The likliehood is that rotation will occur to partner Sergio Aguero in attack for Manuel Pellegrini’s charges. It really is so difficult to second guess the Chilean. Interestingly though Dzeko and Jovetic were paired together in the Liverpool match but I don’t see Aguero NOT playing or City going for three strikers.
So, who will start in attack when the Sky Blues open up at Newcastle on the opening weekend? Ask me a question on geography!
Southampton
Amidst the frenzy of activity at Southampton this summer due to the mass exodus of playing staff, it sort of has gone unnoticed that they have now played five pre-season matches and until 15 minutes from the end of last night’s win at Brighton, they had not concede one single goal, winning all those matches.
It bodes well for the Saints defence going into the season and it may be the same for our fantasy teams. You can pick up Jose Fonte, Ryan Bertrand or Nathaniel Clyne as probable first choices for Ronald Koeman. More interestingly, providing they don’t sign further defensive reinforcements, there may be decent value in Maya Yoshida (4.5) or Jos Hoiveld (4.0).
My following of all of Southampton’s matches via club reporters and twitter have shown me that Nathaniel Clyne is being involved regularly in the offensive half of the field and with Chambers now off to the Emirates, he will be my investment in the Saints backline.
Additionally, for those investing in some of Southampton’s new attacking talent, both Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic have scored for their new clubs already and also laid on a few goals between them.
NOT
Vito Mannone
This may well all be part of Gus Poyet’s grand plan but Vito Mannone has played just 45 minutes of Sunderland’s first match (against Darlington) and then 60 minutes versus Carlisle United. Those were the club’s first two pre-season matches and in the preceding three, he has not seen a minute of action with Costel Pantillimon and the youth goalkeepers preferred. It has been revealed at the time of writing this article, that he is also not involved in tonight’s friendly against Vitoria Setubal, reportedly through illness. Therefore we only have two Sunderland pre-season matches to come so we’ll see if this changes but his current absence raises some issues for some fantasy managers.
The good news for prospective fantasy owners is that you can have his likely replacement, the huge Romanian Pantillimon, for exactly the same outlay of cash so this shouldn’t disrupt the rest of your fantasy team plans in any way.
RMT please
Foster
Baines. C.Davies. Debuchy
Hazard. A.Johnson. Barkley. Sterling
C.Austin. Rooney. Sanchez
Hey ktunh, who’s on your bench mate?
Sanchez is a midfielder by the way
In a league on the Telegraph site….no bench positions.
Sanchez listed as a striker not midfielder.
Howdee ktunh07

Potty
Thanks. I joined!
Hi kt, don’t know what the parameters are for that game so won’t comment too much on the team as it may be great given the budget but just wanted to say that Potty is running a league for that game which some of the lads are involved in from here if you are interested?
Apart fro caulker who is most nailed on QPR defender Ferdinand,Simpson, ect ?
Jeet I’d say Simpson and he’s in a wing back role so I’d go for him mate.
init – you know they have just bought a wing back?
QPR have recently signed the Chilean right wing back Isla on loan and I reckon he’d be first choice instead.
Sorry guys no I must have missed that, thanks, in that case Jeet I’d definitely say pick Isla :hippo:
Can I see the set piece takers somewhere on this site?
Evening Tekno, it’s something we’re working on and still gathering info from the friendlies mate, will be with you well before season start.
Evening everyone! How are we all?
Thanks Cookie, good to hear.

Cookie,
Evening pal.
Watching the closing ceremony to these Commonwealth Games.
from behind the couch . . .
Hi Tekno type in set piece takers in search field
Not yet, I think they’re waiting till after all the friendlies have finished to decide on who’s taking what for each of the teams and we’ll get an article of sorts about it. Priority at the minute is just finding them regular starters.
Hi Cookie how do AT&T photo doesn’t seem to be working
Set piece takers
Tekno take a look @ this message set pieces takers att
Thanks Silverback
RVP will miss opening game
Testing the new image feature, my preliminary team.
Flingy,
Like it. Looks like a smart team for flexibility with a decent side whether 3-5-2 or 3-4-3. Even looks good should you need an extra defender. Well done.
I have Silva too but currently considering Cesc for the first two matches and then switching. Is that something you have thought about?
And why Ozil over Ramsey?
What app is that mate?
It’s a solid team, arguably ‘too’ solid, as a lot of money is tied up in defence. The spread of teams covered is excellent, however, that’s not always a good thing… what about Mata? Bojan and Siggy to rotate? I like the Snodgrass pick but opted against him due to Hull’s Europa commitments. Sterling isn’t doing it for me either.
It’s a really nice canvas though. Sets you up well for the long haul…
Hi Flingy Mannone still a don’t if he is first choice you might want to downgrade one of your def to 4m Ozil will be rested first few games Sterling opening fixtures though & Bojan untested but a good player just a few changes & will be a good team
Flingy as an Arsenal fan yourself may I ask why you’ve gone Ozil over Ramsey or Sanchez? Be interesting to know from an insider perspective. Maybe we’ve all been missing something.
Ôzil is not expected to play in GW 1 is he?
Init – after the World Cup he’ll probably have a slow start – but as the season progresses I fully expect him to become FPL bread and butter so to speak, unless of course, Sanchez keeps hogging all of our cash.
Tekno I believe not. He’s said he’s giving the Germans time off. James he could do but I wouldn’t fancy trying to squeeze the pair of them in there unless Arsenal are seriously rocking it.
Nope, I wouldn’t double either init…
…I’d triple up with him, Alexis and Wally 😉
The app I use on my phone was recommended past year by somebody on here, it’s simply called Fantasy FootballManager. It works great, never had an issue.
The Mannone issue can be rresolved as I believe Pantimilion is the same cost, so an easy switch if required.
I like Silva a lot, he’s always amongst stuff at city but still not decided. I don’t want Fabregas, now moving on to the Arsenal fan perspective. The two not related, honest.
Ozil could miss the first game but at some point I’ll choose him over the others. With players masking runs Ozil is awesome. Evident by when either Ramsey or Walcott were fit last season.
Bojan was my differential but he keeps scoring in friendlies..
I will check it out, cheers. I know what you mean with Bojan etc, the pre season often gives too many clues haha, but it’s necessary nonetheless.
Flingy I use FFM too, its great but we do have a site member working on something similar so hopefully some news on that soon. It’s their own app and nothing to do with us as such although we will be supporting it and hopefully having some interactive features and links etc on there.
Anyways!… Agree on Ozil and the runners. Sanchez can actually finish as well as opposed to Wally so that’ll be a close call. I’m going Sanchez for now.
On Bojan I hope he does continue as at that price he sorts out a lot of issues and frees up funds big time as a 3rd striker.
Just wanted to update this wonderful community, and Banterbury Leaguers on how our chosen charity to sponsor our Cup * Help for Heroes * is getting on , drum roll please ……….we have raise amazing 168 POUNDS & 48 PENCE
