One team have already played competitively this season and that is Hull City.

The HCT (Hull City Tigers anyone?) No . . . oh well, ‘Hull’ then, begun their first ever European campaign last night in Slovakia where they secured a 0-0 draw with Trencin. The second leg of this is Thursday 7th followed by a friendly in Stuttgart on the Sunday (10th). Thereafter if they qualify next week, they face the final play-off round for the Europa League on Thursday 21st and 28th August – just as the Premier League campaign is beginning to take off. Beware rotation in the Hull ranks.
[divider_1px]
So there you have it – up to date on all pre-season (and relevant European) matters so what have we learned?
HOT:
Stevan Jovetic
The Manchester City striker has had a great pre-season so far scoring four goals in his last two matches against Milan and Liverpool. Those Edin Dzeko supporters who were rubbing their hands excitedly after Alvaro Negredo’s injury will now be wringing their hands nervously at the form of the Montenegrin. The likliehood is that rotation will occur to partner Sergio Aguero in attack for Manuel Pellegrini’s charges. It really is so difficult to second guess the Chilean. Interestingly though Dzeko and Jovetic were paired together in the Liverpool match but I don’t see Aguero NOT playing or City going for three strikers.
So, who will start in attack when the Sky Blues open up at Newcastle on the opening weekend? Ask me a question on geography!
Southampton
Amidst the frenzy of activity at Southampton this summer due to the mass exodus of playing staff, it sort of has gone unnoticed that they have now played five pre-season matches and until 15 minutes from the end of last night’s win at Brighton, they had not concede one single goal, winning all those matches.
It bodes well for the Saints defence going into the season and it may be the same for our fantasy teams. You can pick up Jose Fonte, Ryan Bertrand or Nathaniel Clyne as probable first choices for Ronald Koeman. More interestingly, providing they don’t sign further defensive reinforcements, there may be decent value in Maya Yoshida (4.5) or Jos Hoiveld (4.0).
My following of all of Southampton’s matches via club reporters and twitter have shown me that Nathaniel Clyne is being involved regularly in the offensive half of the field and with Chambers now off to the Emirates, he will be my investment in the Saints backline.
Additionally, for those investing in some of Southampton’s new attacking talent, both Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic have scored for their new clubs already and also laid on a few goals between them.
NOT
Vito Mannone
This may well all be part of Gus Poyet’s grand plan but Vito Mannone has played just 45 minutes of Sunderland’s first match (against Darlington) and then 60 minutes versus Carlisle United. Those were the club’s first two pre-season matches and in the preceding three, he has not seen a minute of action with Costel Pantillimon and the youth goalkeepers preferred. It has been revealed at the time of writing this article, that he is also not involved in tonight’s friendly against Vitoria Setubal, reportedly through illness. Therefore we only have two Sunderland pre-season matches to come so we’ll see if this changes but his current absence raises some issues for some fantasy managers.
The good news for prospective fantasy owners is that you can have his likely replacement, the huge Romanian Pantillimon, for exactly the same outlay of cash so this shouldn’t disrupt the rest of your fantasy team plans in any way.
Morning guys…
Think I’ve almost settled on a team…
Main thing is all look nailed..ish.
Also got options on my bench
Plus can also variy formations…
Tell me what you think…
Ps not figured out how to send squad image like those above…so old skool RMT …ta
Krul / Elliott
Debuchy / Lovren / Azpil ….(Taylor / Wisdom)
Siggy / Cesc / Mata / Sanchez….(Davis)
Bojan / Costa / Rooney
Bojan I know ..?
However can swap with Taylor (Swansea) to 4-4-2 or Davis (soton) to 3-5-2
Like I said like the option to tweak if need to…!
Howdy Popz. Strong squad you have there mate. I’m not a fan of the Bojan chap but he could do well. Good all round squad.
+1 if your going to go with a 5.5 i would probably go for campbell
NIN / Hazard..
Thanks for feedback…
I quite fancy Bojan….looking good in pre season …
Plus I reckon he’s got a point to prove after a poor few seasons…
Plus I’ve got options to rotate if he stinks..!
owned by 8.5% so not a massive differential!! i guess he will hope to score stokes majority of goals… you tell me how many that is!
and also id take luis over azpil, same price
Still struggling. zzz
Team at the moment (picture) is an obvious 3-4-3, but sliding towards a 3-5-2 making the following changes
sanchez—> ramsey
albrighton—> silva
dzeko–> campbell
debuchy–> 4.0
boateng–> henderson
not gonna spark the 352 v 343 debate, but what would work better, all thoughts needed and appreciated!!
targett has already been replaced by s.taylor, and GP’s article is swaying me towards ferdinand–> yoshida
Hey eden, I can’t visualise that 3-5-2 very well, but what I will say is:
– I just swapped Targett out for Duff, as he’s likely to play, so might gain value
– are you sure about Shaw (no pun) – hearing he could relate with Young
– Dzeko seems risky given his fixtures and Agüero / Jovetic
– having one of Albrighton and Boateng each week is a turn off
*rotate with Young – oh yeah – and if you go 3-5-2 I’d take Mata over Silva
yeah didnt thnik of young.. cant believe you wouldnt play 31 million though??
will have to see, but aguero should play and GPs article says jovetic is doing well, so maybe avoid their strikers and head towards silva.
i agree, thats my biggest problem, cant play 343 if i have to have one of them in the side :/ ill try and jiggle it around.. so would you go henderson/valencia?? both 6 mil.
He (Shaw) probably will play most if not all, but still, there’s a risk.
I would take Snodgrass over Henderson or Valencia. But if one, Hendo for me.
open to anyone but… is yoshida going to get game time??
Looks like. At first I figured it could be Hooiveld but after Yoshida returned he played all games.
Hazrd…
Team looks good buddy..
However your mids 4th mid options arnt strong enough for a 3-4-3
If your going that way then downgrade hazard > Cesc & Sancez > Ramsey
With the cash upgrade either Albright’ / Boatang for a decent 4th mid.. Punch / Snoddy / Henderson / Barkley / Arno…
thanks popz, really need to adjust that, to get rid of boateng!! thinking on the lines of henderson and valencia, will have to look at it in more detail.
so much to do… why do i play this game!!!
Could be time for a debate… how important is rooney?????
A.
Haz/Ramsey/Mata/Siggy/Albrighton
Costa/ Lukaku/ Dzeko
B.
Haz/Sanchez/Siggy/6.0(snoddy prob)/albrighton
Costa/Rooney/Dzeko
FF247 was the reason i have him in, but if iv mata i see less need.
Rooney > Costa
you think costa has 4 in 2? and grabbed 3 assists in one game!! plus, everyone knows chelsea are the best in the world
Comparatively, Yaya Sanogo scored 4 in one game against Benfica the other night. He’s better than Costa, no? He’s a lot cheaper, too.
He was shite last season and still managed 184 points, 14 goals, 12 assists, 29 BP. United have impressed since LVG took over, Rooney could have a blinder. I’d be more worried about your preference of Dzeko over Jovetic at this moment in time.
hi flingy, to be honest with you i havent really decided myself yet. all i know is that jovetic is looking good in pre season!! i guess iv seen way more of dzeko, and know pellegrini trusts him, like last season when aguero died out. i guess it comes down to game time- whos gonna play more in your opinion??
Jovetic. He was injured last season I think. He’s certainly an option i’ll keep my eyes on.
How important is Rooney? He’s essential, for me.
thanks nin, after drifting away im being pushed in the rooney direction. cant really see him leaving my team now, only hazard is safer 😉
Afternoon to you all
I would be grateful for an RMT please
