Pre-season Hub for the 2017/18 FPL season

Hello and welcome to the Pre Season Hub for the 2017/18 season.
For those both old and new to the site this is an article which aims to bring to you in one convenient place, all the vital news from each of the twenty Premier League clubs’ friendly matches this summer. The ultimate aim is to build up a portfolio of information to help you in selecting your opening FPL squad when the game re-opens week commencing 10th July (next week)!

The hub is very much a living document which I personally will keep up to date as the matches take place. I encourage you guys to help out with any line-ups, goal scoring or assist information. We also like to see general notes being left here if you happened to witness on screen, or better still, in person, any particular player performance, style etc. Basically anything you deem FPL worthy.

How to use…
The whole article is intrinsically linked to the HOT COMMENTS section that appears above the Latest Comments. Basically we have created a comment link for each team. Simply scroll to the Hot Comments for the team you require info on and it’ll take you to their section and we will have all their pre-season info in one place courtesy of our fantastic community members.

The purpose of this is so that –
1. There is a specific place to post relevant pre-season info for each team –
Please post any findings – line-ups, signings, team news, match reports, etc…

2. It’s easy to find all the info.
Need to know the pre-season line-ups for Arsenal? Easy, just click on their link in Hot Comments and you will come to their hub.

So with the first pre-season friendlies involving FPL relevant teams taking place this Saturday the 8th with Watford beginning their schedule, please find below the fixtures…

(NB: At this stage there will still be pre-season matches being announced and I will endeavour to update these as we go along. Southampton for instance only have one friendly scheduled so far but this can be excused by their new manager only just arriving – expect further announcements soon).

More and more prices are being released. They all seem high

I agree Smash. Prices seem way too high right now but maybe they are planning a budget increase.

      Mitro says:

      Morning smash!

Most of the prices I’ve saw are as expected! Did think lacazaette would be around the 9.5/10 mark though, think Alli is at a decent price! Dreading to see what Kun, Kane and sanchez are, hopefully Kun is around 11!

Thoughts on cesc at 7? Could be a great option until hazard is back IMO!

      • banjomaker says:

Agreed on cesc, as a temporary measure. I still can’t decide whether Kun is mandatory or not. Depending on price, I might go Jesus for city cover. How much do we think Lukaku will be? Around the 11 mark too? Benteke could be a steal, especially if he leaves palace.

I suspect Dele Alli might prove very popular at 9.5m

evening lads, hope you enjoy your summer break smile

do we have a clue when will be the game released?

the early price publishing is a good idea, however i have a feeling that making our initial squad will cause more headaches than usual..

    Smash10 says:

It’s important to note that Spurs are playing home games at Wembley next year. Judging by their Champions league record and their away form not being as good could be one to monitor

      inittowinit says:

That’ll be a huge factor mate. We saw what moving did to West Ham. A couple of early wins there and it’ll probably be fine and under the carpet. If not it’ll become an albatross.

Alli was about the same away as at home. Spurs as a team did see a drop off, but not as bad as many make it out to be.

Perhaps their struggles in the CL had to do with the fact that it was also the time they struggled a bit in the Premier league. There was an 8 game stretch in the PL from the middle of October to the middle of December where they only won twice, drew 6 and lost 2. So it is possible that they went out and played bad at Wembley, simply because they were not in great form.

      • Bry says:

Good points Mito. Though the pitch dimensions may be a factor. The FA apparently won’t let Spurs reduce the size, so perhaps Wembley won’t suit their style of play.

        • Well they scored 18 goals in the 8 stadiums with the same pitch size as Wembley in their away travels last season.

3 of their lower scoring games of those 8 came during that Oct.-Dec window when they were struggling. I am not convinced that it matters that much, to their style. Everyone talks about their struggles at Wembley, but few mention that their 4 loses were to Chelsea twice, Monaco and Bayer Lever. Not exactly a bunch of patsies.

Kane’s price is what might deter me and his personal slow starting fpl style, but it won’t keep me off Viking or Alli as cover at the very least.

        • Silvers says:

Yes agree Mito21 Kane price just might deter me from having him , but surely he has been the most consistent fwd for the last 3 seasons. So is he a must 😉

        • Bry says:

So what you’re saying Mito, is that even if Spurs have 99 problems, a pitch ain’t one? 😉

In 2014 Poch said this, which baffles me slightly, as it was recently reported he wants the Wembley pitch made smaller. I know it was 3 years ago, but it backs up Mito well.
“Our style means we need a bigger space to play because we play a positional game. It’s true that White Hart Lane is a little bit tight and it’s better for the opponent when they play deep.”

Curiously Brighton and Hudds will have the two biggest pitches in the Premier League this season. It didn’t help Hull (who had the biggest pitch), so they might wanna lop off a few square metres!

I think we should make pitch dimensions the buzz topic of 2017/18.

        • Kop Warrior says:

Silvers, will you make up your mind smile Last night you told me that Kane was a must have!!

        • Silvers says:

After your comment Kop I tried to do my first draft team & if Kane is 13.5m this is going to be hard with some of the prices where getting if you want 3 decent MF players I still will try & get Kane in but yes I’m bloody changing my mind already :whacky:

        • @Bry, I have always thought and noticed when I played and has become more evident to me watching my lad’s play, that a bigger pitch favours the more technically sound team. I assume if you ask Barca, Real, Bayern they would all prefer the biggest pitch possible. When my boys play against teams who look better on the ball and create well, I prefer to play the game in a sandbox so we don’t get stretched. But maybe I am crazy.

        • DMC says:

Their high up there between the quality and flair teams such as Burnley and WestBrom!

        • Based on the players they have they are. Only teams I thought were technically superior were Liverpool and City. Liverpool basically have 7 mids on the field at all times including one at left back and forward. So no surprise there and City because of their style and talent have to be, even if Bravo and Stones have to be forced to do it while kicking and screaming about it. I also think that having Vert and Toby helps Spurs in that aspect.
