Site Team Gameweek 1
Hello and welcome to Site Team Gameweek 1. Seeing as FPL opened about 4 months ago, you would think we would have spent hours formulating our plans for the team, endlessly researching the stats and pre-season appearances of the players and balancing our budget to accommodate the must haves and the dark horses.
No. We all forgot about it until the Taskmaster that is Mito, clipped us round the ear and made us do stuff. Well, even then it was just to say if we liked ‘his’ team that he had created for us.
( …and even still we have our suspicions that The Legend played Twitter roulette and copied the first template he found).
But guess what? We all, in the main, loved the draft. A little tweak here and there to justify our enormous salaries but by and large we felt great and FPL could start in five minutes time if it liked.
Then Watkins came off injured.
Then Robertson did his ankle.
Then Toney had a knock.
Then Watkins was OK again.
And going to be playing in the middle!
It’s great to be back!
The Squad
OK so we know what you’re thinking and yes, we have taken the plunge on Tsimikas. His three assists and nice fixtures have us on the end of the line. We double him up with Trent and the obvious Mohamed Salah pick rounds off our maximum Liverpool exposure. Curiously Jota wasn’t given any thought so we must all be happy without him.
We don’t want to be faffing about with goalkeeper transfers at any stage (except maybe the wildcard(s)) so we’ll spend just £8.5mln and go all in on Watford with Bachmann and Foster offering an assured goalkeeper each week (don’t mention the ‘C’ word).
Joining the Liverpool lads in defence then are Luke Shaw, Luke Ayling and Ben White – who really should have been called Luke by his parents. We will likely use 3 defenders most weeks at the start and those will likely be our Liverpool two and Shaw but incase we don’t and/or we need a sub we are nicely covered.
Bruno is in and it shouldn’t take that much explaining and we have Raphinha and Harvey Barnes rounding off the spots in there. We usually always like the look of Leeds’ and Leicester’s attack and these two seem quite assured there and each for a favourable price as well. Burnley’s Josh Brownhill is the back up.
Our attackers are Danny Ings Ollie Watkins, Michail Antonio and Ivan Toney in what will now be known as the *drumroll*
‘AN-TONEY-KINS’
… we’ll work on that and come back to you …
There you have it. We have no plans to play early chips or wildcards and will see where the game takes us this season.
Captain
I don’t think this one needs any explaining, nor does the vice.

We are all hoping for a more normal season than last when it seemed that the virus was strangling not only FPL but football itself and the return of supporters and normal match schedules are hopefully also back for good.

Might be missing something or just late night maths but ….
Mahrez £9 – Ben £6 =£3
Coufal £5 – Amartey £4= £1
=£4m
Watson £7.5 + £4 = Lukaku £11.5
Sorry reply fail for Makeya post 66.4
Mate I have NO idea how I ended up with 10.5 haha. You’re spot on.
This is the way I’m going to go. 1mil ITB isn’t a bad way to start the season even if I do happen to go another way to this.
Thanks heaps, great idea.
I would however like to keep chambers instead of white. What is your argument for white? I was only looking at Chambers due to his attacking possibilities
Ha that threw me because I was planning similar moves
Only mentioned White as I imagine he’s gonna be nailed …just spent £50m on him and think he’ll probably be our main man at the back. I like Chambers ….he is more attacking I admit and he has done well when played but I’d say hes got maybe only a slightly better chance to start than Bellerin or Cedric as things stand
These are good points. If I plan to do the lukaku move as I am I probably want to have as many FT up my sleeve as possible. Good call mate!
Second draft going without Lukaku to start with, thoughts?
Looks good
Not sure about Barnes’ rotation but like him as a player, so might go for him too.
Well, Lukaku has ruined many an evening now!… Thoughts on these?
A) Current team, no Lukaku
B) Lukaku in, keeping TAA, 2 x 4.0m
C) Lukaku in, no TAA, 1 x 4.0m
A
Really like this 1! If were me I’d probably have Tierney & Coufal instead of White & Maguire but I’d probably also get confused every week on who to bench if I did!
Not keen on B its only ok until Robertson back and Lukaku may not even play 1 of those few games
C is ok but I’d still wait a few weeks for it ….reckon TAA/Ings could outscore White/Lukaku over the first 3 GWs at least
Thanks RedKev – yeah, I was all set on that draft as my favourite too! After sleeping on it I think waiting on Lukaku is the way to go for now. Same opinion for your drafts as well!

Sorry for the duplicate!
Depends whether you think he starts. For what it’s worth I reckon he may well do. I’m sat on two drafts also, one with and one without. See what’s said tomorrow, if anything, and take it from there I guess.
Assuming he does start… preferences here?
Hi Init,
A for me all day long.
Jamie
Nice teams Innit. Start with the 1st one but with Benrahma instead of Raphina (better fixtures anyway) and then it’s just 2 easy moves without hits in 2 weeks if Lukaku hits the ground running. By then Kane will either be back or gone to City (effecting Son) and Ings fixtures take a turn too
It’s a good point, thanks.
OK, let’s take the first 3 fixtures, presuming Luka starts in all of them.
Do you think he will outscore Son and Raphinha playing vs CRY (H) ARS (A) and LIV (A)?
I think is best to chill and see how it goes. Knowing the people around, most of us usually play the WC before or during the first IB. Everything will be much clearer by then.
The equation there is more Lukaku / Benhrama / Mbeumo vs Toney / Son / Raphinha.
Many will wake up and have to grapple with some similar scenario, so no pressure on your answer Ivan, many a season will rest on it
You can’t imagine a better scenario on the eve of opening day. The arrival of Lukaku with a price tag of 11.5, causing a massive chaos and a sleepless night for many.
Watch tomorrow afternoon Tsimikas goes up to 50% and TAA down to 15% ownership
Well, before you make any decision, you have to watch this:

A for me
Hmmm so hard to choose. Your Lukaku draft does look good – liking the Benrahma pick with him. Losing Raphinha and Son does feel like a high price though.
The more I look at my team with Lukaku, the more I’m thinking he’s a wait and see, to possibly grab on my traditional early WC
Exactly my thoughts too. I like it but I also like the other with Son and less risk. Not sure but as I say it depends on any news tomorrow anyway as to whether it’s even a choice / conversation to be had. I’m hoping he does start though as that would probably negate the need for a GW3 WC. Perhaps. Certainly in terms of reallocating funds anyway.
