Site Team Gameweek 1
Hello and welcome to Site Team Gameweek 1. Seeing as FPL opened about 4 months ago, you would think we would have spent hours formulating our plans for the team, endlessly researching the stats and pre-season appearances of the players and balancing our budget to accommodate the must haves and the dark horses.
No. We all forgot about it until the Taskmaster that is Mito, clipped us round the ear and made us do stuff. Well, even then it was just to say if we liked ‘his’ team that he had created for us.
( …and even still we have our suspicions that The Legend played Twitter roulette and copied the first template he found).
But guess what? We all, in the main, loved the draft. A little tweak here and there to justify our enormous salaries but by and large we felt great and FPL could start in five minutes time if it liked.
Then Watkins came off injured.
Then Robertson did his ankle.
Then Toney had a knock.
Then Watkins was OK again.
And going to be playing in the middle!
It’s great to be back!
The Squad
OK so we know what you’re thinking and yes, we have taken the plunge on Tsimikas. His three assists and nice fixtures have us on the end of the line. We double him up with Trent and the obvious Mohamed Salah pick rounds off our maximum Liverpool exposure. Curiously Jota wasn’t given any thought so we must all be happy without him.
We don’t want to be faffing about with goalkeeper transfers at any stage (except maybe the wildcard(s)) so we’ll spend just £8.5mln and go all in on Watford with Bachmann and Foster offering an assured goalkeeper each week (don’t mention the ‘C’ word).
Joining the Liverpool lads in defence then are Luke Shaw, Luke Ayling and Ben White – who really should have been called Luke by his parents. We will likely use 3 defenders most weeks at the start and those will likely be our Liverpool two and Shaw but incase we don’t and/or we need a sub we are nicely covered.
Bruno is in and it shouldn’t take that much explaining and we have Raphinha and Harvey Barnes rounding off the spots in there. We usually always like the look of Leeds’ and Leicester’s attack and these two seem quite assured there and each for a favourable price as well. Burnley’s Josh Brownhill is the back up.
Our attackers are Danny Ings Ollie Watkins, Michail Antonio and Ivan Toney in what will now be known as the *drumroll*
‘AN-TONEY-KINS’
… we’ll work on that and come back to you …
There you have it. We have no plans to play early chips or wildcards and will see where the game takes us this season.
Captain
I don’t think this one needs any explaining, nor does the vice.

Summary
We are all hoping for a more normal season than last when it seemed that the virus was strangling not only FPL but football itself and the return of supporters and normal match schedules are hopefully also back for good.
Good luck to absolutely everyone from us all at FF247 Site Team.

I’m starting with Lukaku. I have a feeling he’s
Going to play.
Nice like it. Nacho seems a bit dodgy for mins here. Most think Barnes will start
if tuchek confirms he is fit and eligible to play, I may also put Lukaku in from GW1. If not Vardy for 1 GW
Am I gtg? Thanks for the help
Yep all good. I’d be playing Timikas . Otherwise not much point owning him
Thanks
Raphinha vs. Gundagon?
Raphinha is favourited but there’s no City coverage in any teams I’m seeing..
I’m seeing a bit of Grealish, a bit of Mahrez, someone else was advocating Dias (though whether Dias was in their side I don’t know). Dias is very highly owned, as is Grealish. I’m expecting to see a lot of the latter in my mini-leagues. Mini-leagues are often revelatory in the sense of completely non-template (and often short-term successful) sides.
The uncertainty of minutes makes Man City midfielders a difficult choice if planning a longish-term team. I’m pretty sure there will be a lot of interest next week because of their opponents then. But if Norwich stun Liverpool, maybe not.
I’m thinking Grealish but the player who would make way (probably) is Barnes, who has Norwich himeslf in GW3 I think.
Hey Kralin – I’m stuck on a 4th hitting midfielder behind the obviously Salah/Fernandes and Barnes.
Gundagon
Raphinha
Mount
Greenwood
Sarr
Buendia
etc!
I went for Raphinha – who’s been in from the first draft and has stayed through thick and thin, even when I briefly flirted with a 4/3/3 formation.
Greenwood seems a good option, as do most of the others really, to a greater or lesser extent. There’s that cheapish WHU midfielder as well – Benrahma – who may be worth a run in your team.
You think Barnes will do well from the get go?
Leicester have ok fixtures so Barnes seems as safe a bet as the myriad other choices. He’s one of the more insecure members of my side but seems as worth a run as many others.
Hey Little Red –
I’ve always been a fan of Barnes, until his injury. It’s also a crazily congested mid-priced category, so I’m going with someone I feel has decent fixtures and at least he will be playing.
Greenwood seems good too, but you never know with his respective minutes from last season at the end.
Raphinha is probably going to feature in the team, but I just feel like…. he shouldn’t..
Thanks. I am leaning towards Greenwood myself. Cavani seems not to be fit and Rashy is out. He seems to take up a striker position and I doubt Martial is up to the task.
i went with greenwood. should start first few games
Think I will be having Gundogan in GW2, great price still and as long as KDB is out I think he’s pretty nailed…
Fair enough. Thinking of Sarr as a differential for Raphinha.. not sold on him for some reason..
I have gone with Dias & Gundogan.
Dias probably a season keeper if City continue getting CS like last year
Gundo a short term pick till KDB comes
Panic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha…only 11 hours to go to the deadline!
Are you referring to Lukaku or season starting tonight? Or both?
All will be fine. Or are you coming out of a dark night of the soul?
Thanks for all the sage advice, this site would be the lesser place without it.
Really want Lukaku but I will wait. See how he fits into the side. I know I am missing TAA but it’s impossible to have everyone. No doubt I’ll play my WC before the international break so this team is really only looking at the first couple of GWs only.
Any thoughts welcome.
Cheers
Alonso OK in there with Chilwell clearly miles better and assumed first choice?
As mentioned above, you could be left behind early with that captain choice if Salah goes off.
Thanks GP. I’m basing the Alonso choice on the fact that he played in the Super Cup, nearly scored, well, had a shot on target and Chilwell hasn’t played at all. Thinking I could get ahead of the field if Havertz goes big! Of course, it could backfire…we’ll see. Captain choice may well change before the deadline. Any other glaring issues?
i am also going with differentials. I dont have Salah at all. I have Mane & Jota & captained Mane
Hi all, just looking for some advice on final squad choice, 0.5 spare in bank any obvious mistakes being made? Be grateful for any advice please
I quite like it
+1
Looks good. Big Rom!!!
