Surprise Fantasy Football Success Stories
Top players are always very popular when it comes to Fantasy Football. But which players have surprised this season? Read on to discover five overachievers.
Five Differentials in This Season’s Fantasy Football
Anyone who has played Fantasy Football in recent years will have a pretty good idea how they are going to populate their squad at the start of the season. Top players like Harry Kane and Mo Salah have been racking up the points year after year and have to be fitted in, no matter the cost.
While betting sites like Bovada offer odds on players like those two finishing as the EPL’s top goal scorers every year, there are other less well-renowned names that have become more well-known to fantasy football devotees. These differentials can add those all-important points each week and help you beat your friends and rivals.
Here are five such players that have shone in fantasy football this season.
Jose Sa, Wolves
Sa became just the latest Portuguese player to join Wolves in the Premier League when he signed from Olympiacos in the summer. But he has been a revelation since taking over from fellow countryman Rui Patricio. His 11 clean sheets have helped Wolves climb the table and rank him behind only Liverpool’s Alisson in Fantasy Football.
His agile performances have attracted the attention of a host of bigger clubs and it is very noticeable that it is only the top three in the Premier League that have conceded fewer goals than Wolves this season. He has been as dependable for his Fantasy Football owners as he has been for his club.
Matty Cash, Aston Villa
Not all top Championship defenders can seamlessly move up to the Premier League. But Matty Cash has shown that he can play at any level after signing for Aston Villa from Nottingham Forest two summers ago. He had become a firm fans’ favourite at the City Ground but his game has reached new levels at Villa Park.
Although he does tend to bring in big points hauls in bursts, rather than consistently, it is his attacking skills – as a defender – that have made him one of the key differentials this year in Fantasy Football. Making it to the World Cup with Poland is sure to only boost his points-scoring potential.
Conor Gallagher, Crystal Palace
Gallagher is yet to play for parent club Chelsea since signing for the Stamford Bridge club as a youth team player. Loan spells at Charlton, Swansea and West Brom all suggested the talent the midfielder possesses. But it is his performances for Crystal Palace this year that have really caught the eye.
His goals have propelled the south London club into the top half of the Premier League and earned Gallagher an England call up. But it is his overall impact that is so rated in Fantasy Football, bringing in points for assists and man of the match performances – as well as goals.
Emmanuel Dennis, Watford
Dennis played a season in Ukraine before joining Club Brugge in Belgium. Although his record there was relatively good, he was loaned out to Bundesliga side Koln last season before making the move to the Premier League in the summer. His pace and goals have now made him one of the top rated strikers in Fantasy Football.
The Nigeria international has had to contend with three different head coaches at Vicarage Road this season, so it is no surprise that his points haul has been a little hit and miss lately. But he has been one of the bright spots in a dismal Watford season – and could be a name to look out for next year if the Hornets go down.
Riyad Mahrez, Manchester City
This last selection might be regarded as controversial. Riyad Mahrez is hardly an unknown when it comes to the global stage. But Fantasy Football managers will know that selecting any midfielder from Manchester City is something of a gamble, considering Pep’s player rotation and the riches of the squad.
But even with some of the best players in the world to choose from, Guardiola consistently looks to Mahrez in every competition. The Algerian is the club’s top goal scorer this season and ranks highly in every Fantasy Football category.
