Photo 02-01-2014 11 40 06With less than nine days to go and counting until the next deadline we all have plenty of thinking and tinkering time left… The January Wildcard is now available should you feel inclined to use it. Will you activate it immediately, possibly with a view to maximising your team value or will you wait until the transfer window has shut and judge what impact that has had, if any? Whichever you decide is the best strategy for you ahead of the next game-week we welcome your questions and also your advice to others. Please feel free as ever to post your thoughts, questions and feelings about whatever you want to but in particular if you would like others to take a look at your team ahead of GW21 and offer their thoughts and suggestions please post it below or link it and we are sure you will get plenty of feedback. Some of which may be constructive but we can’t promise anything!

When you say ” You ” was there anyone in particular you were addressing? 😉 How you doing Demsie, everything well?

      • Demsie says:

haha.. Nope. Nobody at all, and, at the same time.. EVERYBODY !

Just hoping for any kind of answer really Mito mate. Yeah things are good mate.. New year and all that jazz just breaking myself gently back into work these 2 days which, if we’re honest, is a rather kind start to the working year..

        How about yourself ?

        • Doing well Demsie, doing well. Taking it easy, won’t even open my team until the day before the next fixtures, no need to make early moves unless I was on the WC and I am not.

        • Demsie says:

Great shout Mito. I’m doing the same. Tbf I’m getting better at doing that .. I used to have my team open most of the day at work doing imaginary wild cards and doing transfers I was thinking of. Now I don’t even look at my team until a Friday night. I feel a bit less addicted this way..

    Hi all,

Firstly, great site! Well done to everyone who got this up and running. I followed over from FFC and can i just say that the look, content and regular updating on this site blows that out the water. So top marks guys.

Id be grateful for some views on this potential WC team:

    Mignolet (Mannone)
    Coleman, Sagna, Vlaar (Gabbidon, Chester)
    Walcott, Oscar, Silva, Cabaye (Mutch)
    Suarez, Aguero, Adebayor
    0.4m bank.

Planning on waiting until Aguero is fit before i hit that button. Thoughts please?

Welcome Robin F and thanks for the compliments of the site. Your team looks good my wc is active and have sanga over kos or mert purely for attacking potential (and lower ownership) same with Silva over Yaya.
Reckon prices will go up a bit so wanted to get players in now and left enough money for Augero when he is back. Not sure who to have until he is back tho especially with Rooney playing so deep and injured?

      • Nice job Floydeth, good thing Robin included that last sentence, otherwise who knows what he might be thinking. 😉

@Robin it looks solid but we all know that weekly we change opinions and find the new hot player we want, so assuming that all indications are right about Kun being ready in late January, my guess is that about 4-5 players will be new in your potential team. I say look at the fixtures real well for your defence in particular and be ready to hit the button when he is back. Btw there is a fixtures tracker in the options at the bottom of this page and you can check the difficulty of future games there for every club. But it does look solid for right now, will be interesting how close your actual WC team resembles this version in the end.

        • Ha, spotted that mito and edited my comment already 😉
Will be leaving your timezone(ish) today, not that you are ever asleep! Going to finally understand this jetlag malarkey!

        • I want one of those magic wands to edit my comments!! Specially in Potty’s predictions!! :hippo:

        • Robin Friday says:

Cheers guys, appreciate the comments. I should never have played around with the squad to see what was possible for the WC with all these players injured! It messes with your head. Agree that the WC team could look pretty different in a couple of weeks so i am going to try and resist and hold fire. Price rises could change that however!

@Floydeth – i am going for Sagna and Silva as all teams around me seem to have Mert and Yaya and i need differentials. Same goes for Oscar over Hazard. Thinking of a cheeky punt on Hooper for a few weeks until Aguero is fit as he has decent games between the Everton and Man City fixtures.

@Mito – cheers for the heads up on the fixture tracker. Wasnt aware of that. Its little things like that which make this site what it is!

    My team after using WC
    Mannone
    Coleman Mertesacker Chester
    Hazard Yaya Gerrard Walcott
    Suarez (c) Rodriguez Remy
bench- Mc Gregor Parker Ward Whittaker
    how does this look???

    Suggest changes

    • 70.1

Looks like you might lack some punch from your forwards, are you looking to be able to get Aguero in when fit?

    • 70.2

@Nishant I prefer the Vito and Marshall pairing I think they allow you to play the fixtures a bit better and since you have Chester already it prevents you from having the temptation of playing double Hull in the back. 😉 Your mids are your individual preferences, so won’t say much about that. What I will say is have some kind of plan ready or money saved over if Kun comes back sooner than expected.

Can anyone confirm if I understand the January WC correctly?

I want to save it until the last GW it’s available, so I think I should activate the wildcard on January 28, (after the start of the first games?) so I can do as many transfers between then and the February 1 deadline as I want. Is that right?

  6. 72

Evening everyone and HNY to you all.

Just a thought for those who may want to play their WC just now (I MIGHT be one of them).

I have Terry (£6.3), Hazard (£10.1) and Suarez (£12.1) – will there be anyone signed in January who will be FPL priced much greater than that?

My thinking is that if someone is signed who I think is a ‘must-have’ surely I can accommodate them in 2 transfers one way or the other based upon having these top price players mentioned above.

Just looking for thoughts on this . . .

      Milk and Busquets says:

Hazard and Suarez are keepers for the season. No matter who is bought in. So if you want to bring in anyone with two FTs, you’ll have to do it without getting rid of one of those two. Terry, whom I have as well, is not a must-have.

      • Milk

I have no intention of selling either but my point was that if Messi say, signs for Man City and he is £3m more than Suarez or Aguero, then if you felt you needed Messi, then you can find the £3m from somewhere with 2FT.

Just basically saying that playing your WC early doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t get the “big” January signing at the end of the month.

        • gpriley22 says:

If messi signs for man u I’d sell everyone

        • The state United are in I would be surprised if anyone signed for us never mind Messi sad

        • gpr

          100% ownership though!

          Ho’w’s it going?

        • gpriley22 says:

          Going great, how about you

        • gpr

Happier than I was in FPL terms than I was last January – towel was in last year!!!

Feel OK and settled about who I have and who I’m going for.

Still unsure whether to WC ahead of next GW . .

        • Fergie

HNY mate. Thought Man U had turned a corner recently. Surprised by the Spurs result. What’s going wrong then?

        • And to you Gallant,

Re United: the first 20-25 and the last 20 United did play well. Some injuries don’t help- Rooney is 2/3 fit, RvP missing, Rafael is a big miss and so is Jones. That aside, we seem to want to get wide and put crosses in, I feel we are stuck between styles of play- we don’t get the ball wide quickly enough to make use of Valencia or the other winger so when they cross it’s hard to find a united player. We also seem to lack a really creative player in the centre of the pitch who can get the service into the wide players or play through balls in between the opposition defence. So united are not really playing through the middle or using the wings effectively at all.

        • Fergie

Well if you aren’t playing well on the flanks or particularly well through the team, then you will struggle I suppose.

Feel Man Utd really need two top class midfielder players and have done for a season or two. Shame they never got Herrera but they go back for him.

Zaha as well . . . why isn’t he getting a look in or at least loaned like Powell? Odd.

        • Exactly Gallant. I’m desperately hoping we get someone this window but the noises haven’t been encouraging. No point buying for the sake of it but there are players out there who could improve us… I like Cabaye and Lallana , I haven’t really seen much of Herrera to be sure on him, we keep being linked to Koke who is a serious talent!

I’d like to see us pay some proper money to get someone in.

      Robin Friday says:

I’m thinking the same thing. Plus some of your players may rise in price as others include them in their WC teams so you may have more money to play with later on in the window.

      • Robin,

This is true. WC teams this week should look very similar though I’d have thought – we know who is in top form!

Another thing, those extra points between now and the last week of the WC could prove invaluable in your overall rankings.

        • If WC teams don’t plan well, they could find themselves taking 4-8 point hits to bring in Kun. Possibly even refusing to take a hit for him and then watching teams who waited longer to play with him in it score real well one GW before they bring him in. Either one of those scenarios would see those who went early squander the advantage of having gone early.

        • Mito

That may well be the case but you could still WC this week and take Aguero and bench him until fit.

        • @GP then you be playing a weakened side with all that money on the bench, would kind of defeat the purpose of playing it early if you won’t even put out the best team possible until he is back. Many could almost have 3 players on the bench for that kind of money. Basically it would mean that you have a squad for several GW’s possibly with a disadvantage of about 7 million in the starting 11. It is possible but unlikely that said team could outscore the others with so much money sitting on the bench.

        • Mito

Isn’t he due back the GW after next?

        • Alright GP. I heard he is back very soon to. But will he be rushed back, City seem to be able to win without him!

        • hazardeden10 says:

true, but most intelligent players have beefed up their midfield and put a cheap striker in (e.g jrod). this way when aguero comes back, they sub him back in for one of their main strikers (e.g rooney) and put a cheap mid in the place of the midfields to free up cash. thi way oyu only take a 4 point it, or keep a FT and do it without a hit.

        • NZ

Hello. Yeah I’m sure Aguero will be straight back in. Pellegrini recognises I think how good he is and he is the main striker.

        • HL says:

          Evening All…
Yep, I’m one of those who believe in beefing up the midfield and have already done so…
J Rod is the best 3rd striker, imho – I agree on this , too..
