Photo 02-01-2014 11 40 06With less than nine days to go and counting until the next deadline we all have plenty of thinking and tinkering time left… The January Wildcard is now available should you feel inclined to use it. Will you activate it immediately, possibly with a view to maximising your team value or will you wait until the transfer window has shut and judge what impact that has had, if any? Whichever you decide is the best strategy for you ahead of the next game-week we welcome your questions and also your advice to others. Please feel free as ever to post your thoughts, questions and feelings about whatever you want to but in particular if you would like others to take a look at your team ahead of GW21 and offer their thoughts and suggestions please post it below or link it and we are sure you will get plenty of feedback. Some of which may be constructive but we can’t promise anything!

    Good evening lads.

After all the excitement of the Christmas period it is a bit odd having no fpl this week. No need for a wildcard and minimal surgery needed to my team. I’m bored smile

    Gents

Just on WC and playing it early. Hear often that it’s good for increasing team value.
    Right
    How exactly.
I mean how over and above any other GW. Each player can still only rise 0.3 so is no different to any other week of the year. If you take the stance of transferring in purely on risers, then sell them before deadline to be replaced with the actual team you want, you will only get 0.1 value back when sold. So to trf in 5 rising players say, selling them on to buy the players you actually want, you will have amassed 0.5m (ok I get that) but simultaneously missing out on the (inevitable surely) price rises of the good players you are going buy in late to field.
If you are going to transfer in only all desirable players and not re sell, then fine as they will go up, but you must be starting with a pretty mis managed side if you don’t have at least a big chunk of the key players you need anyway by now.

I know I must be missing something here, and will look even more of a numpty than normal, but can someone tell me what it is I don’t get……for me Increasing TV isn’t a big seller on why to WC early

The short answer for me is play the WC when the team needs it. Don’t concentrate on value. You should be able to get in all the best players just now and set yourself up for a nice run in.

I play the game for points not ££s

Got so say Drexl, I can’t see how you can make much money out of it either.
If a player rises by £0.2m since you bought him, you only get half of that in profit.
Plus the “risers” on FPL seem to change on a daily basis.

Best off just bringing in who you want and keep an eye on them in case they get injured this weekend.

    Eagle says:

Wildcard activated! I need to close the gap in my minileague.

    Marshall (Mannone)
    Koscielny – Terry – Distin
    Hazard – Silva – Walcott – Sterling
    Suarez(c) – Rooney – JRodriguez

    Subs: Colback, Ward, Chester

£0.6 in the bank to do Rooney to Aguero when fit and Sterling to Whittingham when Sturridge comes back. Any more tinkering to be done?

    • 75.1

Eagle I’d be careful with Sterling. He is likely to lose his place when Sturridge is fit. A loan to Swansea is a rumour going round too.

      • Eagle says:

Yes Fergie, I’m aware of Sterling but want to capitalize on him these 2 games then i’m shipping him out for Whittingham or some other 5.3 mid.

        • As long as you have a plan mate that’s all that matters. I expect an awful lot of template looking teams soon so using my wildcard to maybe try and spot a clever differential. Getting Adebayor in for Negredo has worked a treat the last few games.

        • Andy says:

I’m also planning a late WC this season Fergie, any clue’s as to what players are on your radar, I’m sniffing around Ivanovic, Nolan and Gerrard ATM as good opportunities for a late WC. (Gerrard may come in on a FT before the WC is dropped.)

        • Andy, I’m pretty happy with my squad in general. Aguero is a no brainer,. Wouldn’t touch Nolan with a bargepole. Have you considered Azpilicueta instead of Ivanovic?

        • Andy says:

I’m not looking to play my WC until after GW 23 kicks off this year, my money league pays out monthly and I think this may give me an advantage for attempting to win some money of all the other buggers in February rather than playing on a level field in January.

As soon as Ivan’s fit I see him in the Chelski team but Azi may be a good shout till then.

Nolan, rumors are Carol may be back shortly and Nolan plays well off the big lumax, suspension included I see him dropping a fair bit from his current 6.5 tag so may be decent value at the end of the month.

        • Fair enough Andy…. Helpful hint I hope – Azpilicueta had displaced Cole and had been playing left back. Started 9 of the last 10 league games.

    Eagle says:

Yeah me too. I’m trying different players in order to climb my way back up. eg: Yaya T to Silva, Lukaku to JRod, and having Walcott. It could backfire but i need to take that risk.

      jamesimmo says:

Eagle – what’s your total point score / how far are you hehind your minileague leader now? I’m just over 60 adrift if mine, but things have been swinging my way lately, and I’m hoping it can continue so I can mop up the 200 quid! Wondering what deficit you were facing..

      • Eagle says:

James – I’m over 100 points behind. I can pinpoint my mistakes early on when i didn’t pounce on Ramsey, Coleman and Toure. My total score is 1003, lower than my expectations but i’m sure im turning things around. My closest rival is 48 points ahead of me.

        • jamesimmo says:

100 points is a big gap but it’s more than do-able, you’re doing the right thing by seeking differentials, though sadly by the end on January and all these WC I feel Silva and Wally don’t be differentials anymore.

I have never owned Ramsey, Coleman OR Yaya incidentally, which is shocking really! who knows his much I higher I could be currently ranked if I had gotten those players in early at the right time… *sigh* ah well

        • peakydave* says:

Hi James how ya doin’??? Ive triple checked ‘that’ cup game!!! I ‘m sure we both conceded 11 goals so I think it will down to virtual toss, not sure when that takes place?!?!?! smile

        • jamesimmo says:

Peaky! Good news for you! You won’t believe your luck!

Yes, if you count the scores, your teams both conceded 11…

…but Navas – your saviour – was subbed off on the 89th!

So he only conceded 1, technically, so that’s 10 in total for you!

You won mate, congrats smile you can check ‘data view’ for proof…

        • peakydave* says:

James ur a star mate!!!! And with WC activated this week I pity the fool :pity: who has to play me next week in the cup!!!! lol 😉

        • jamesimmo says:

Haha anytime mate! It’ll probably be me now… 😉 hope I don’t get pitted against a WC team, then again, I like the look of mine at the minute..!

      hazardeden10 says:

doing exactly the same, should pay off.

    • 76.3

Eagle- Silva and Walcott are no risk. I’m gutted that the wildcard is available now as I stole a march on lots of managers getting both in…. Now everyone is going to have them sad

    Ripcurl82 says:

To play WC or not to, that is the question?

    current team:
    Marshall-Mannone
    Coleman-Koscielny-Dawson-Distin-Rosenior
    Hazard-Walcott-Yaya-Lallana-Livermore
    Rooney-Lukaku-Suarez

    WC squad:
    Marshall-Ruddy
    Coleman-Koscielny-Bardsley-Ward-Chester
    Walcott-Sillva-Oscar-Gerrard-Eriksen
Aguero (alt until, his return) Suarez-J Rod

    Hit the button? Thanks

      hazardeden10 says:

i would mate, as i see it, prices are only gonna go higher!! team looks good, improved a lot smile guessing your gonna play 3-5-2? looks good for that, maybe a little light in def, but with that midfield, should make up for it.
alternatively, all your current players have decent fixtures, so there is no need to play the WC urgently, but if you do looks good

      • Ripcurl82 says:

Yep 3-5-2 with the option of 3-4-3 depending on fixtures

If I played a constant 3-5-2 I could downgrade J Rod to fund a better defence?

How would you build on the defence?
