Photo 02-01-2014 11 40 06With less than nine days to go and counting until the next deadline we all have plenty of thinking and tinkering time left… The January Wildcard is now available should you feel inclined to use it. Will you activate it immediately, possibly with a view to maximising your team value or will you wait until the transfer window has shut and judge what impact that has had, if any? Whichever you decide is the best strategy for you ahead of the next game-week we welcome your questions and also your advice to others. Please feel free as ever to post your thoughts, questions and feelings about whatever you want to but in particular if you would like others to take a look at your team ahead of GW21 and offer their thoughts and suggestions please post it below or link it and we are sure you will get plenty of feedback. Some of which may be constructive but we can’t promise anything!

Anyone recommend a defender at 5.5 mil? Maybe Azpilicueta now that Ivanovic is out for the month?

      The B says:

Could be a good call. But Chelsea faces United and City in next 4 GWs.

      • gkw says:

Sagna, Skrtel and Kolarov are all available at around that price. Best to buy on form not fixtures, especially for a defender (who should be a longer-term investment, as not good to take hit points for them).

        • The B says:

          Disagree there.
Defender should always be purchased based on fixtures, as a defender with good fixtures is always on good form.

      Gumby says:

Agreed Chelsea dont have an easy run coming up, maybe koscielny from Arsenal could be a look if you dont already have Arsenal coverage. Would of suggested Kolarov of City who has started getting game time recently as he also takes free kicks from time to time, but like Chelsea they have a few possibly tough fixtures ahead.

      • The B says:

Yes, in a premium bracket the recommendations would be Kosc and Sagna.

If looking for something cheap, the WH or SOTON defence could work well.

        • Gumby says:

Yes agree with the B with that one, but maybe stay away from West Ham for a while as they have a few injuries in there backline atm, so just be warie, so maybe Southampton defender could be the choice out of those.

        • Elchico90 says:

Cheers everyone. Well my current defence is Kolarov, Mertesacker, Distin, Clyne and Turner (Cardiff). Looking to replace Distin here, looking for more of an attacking defender with also a good possibility of a clean sheet. I know Mourinho likes to play Essien the odd time RB also. Was thinking of either Skrtel or Sagna/ Koscielny, even with doubling up on Arsenal Defenders. Clyne is finally back to getting some playing time too.

hi guys, any thoughts on my team? I have 2FT at the moment and 1.4M in the bank,

    Mannone, Kelvin davis
    Coleman, Chester, Dawson, Mert, Ward
    Navas, Walcott, Ravel, Hazard, Cabaye
    Lukaku, Rooney, Suarez

I am planning to bring Silva in for Navas and keep the other FT. Sounds like a good plan?

Pretty much have the same team, and the same plan. (Went from overall rank 216 to 255 last round – sigh)
      //
      Mannone/Marshall – Mertesacker/Coleman/G.Johnson/B.Turner/L.Shaw – Walcott/Hazard/Navas/Sterling/Januzai – Lukaku/Rooney/Suarez
      //
I’m looking to improve short term, since the wildcard has to be used in january. Lukaku is underperforming by miles at the moment worth letting him have another go against Norwich? Bought him because of his awesome fixtures come january.

Got 1.5 in the bank, 1 FT. Brought Navas in last round – will probably have his 45 minutes or so next game, Silva is much more consistent. Yaya Toure is just stupid, I can’t get past that hefty pricetag. Tbh, 10.1 is way to much.

    The B says:

You have a top notch defence and attack, Id suggest you do something in the midfield. You should know that Cabaye faces City, Chelsea and Spurs in next 6 GWs. And many are opting towards Lallana as he has better fixtures, some are even doubling up in form of Lallana+JayRod.
But i see you could keep Cabaye based on form.

Change RavMo? Perhaps Ki from Sunderland could work as he has good fixtures coming up, and is really cheap too. And i admire his skills on the field.

Other suggestions in cheap bracket: Puncheon, who is involved in most Palace attack buildups and Koren, who takes free kicks and corners for Hull.

Thanks The B! After the City game, Newcastle have favourable fixtures up until the Chelsea game(GW25) By then, i might bring him out for Lallana or maybe Gerrard on GW26.

I agree on Ravel. He is one of the priority that I have to address and Ki’s move for GW22 looks like a good one.

And, I am planning to bring Aguero+JayRod for Rooney+Lukaku using the WC. Hopefully these moves will work out well!

    The B says:

If there is evidence that Aguero and Adebayor are fit this GW, this will be my WC team:

    Marshall – Speroni
    Coleman – Shaw – Riise – Ward – Chester
    Hazard – Walcott – Silva – Lallana – Koren
    Suarez – Aguero – Adebayor

Seems good enough, a bit thin at the back i think.

      The B says:

Could do Silva>Cabaye there to beef up defence, as already got City cover upfront.

      • blue_moon says:

Nah mate, City MFs are fantasy gold. I think you’ll need either Yaya or Silva to maintain your outstanding ranking (if not, improve on it).

      • blue_moon says:

The interesting question for the second half of the season is whether scoring will be dominated by defence, midfield, or front line. My personal view is that we’ll see less clean sheets, as teams fight to avoid relegation or secure European places. I can see midfielders dominating. With this in mind, I am completely prepared to sacrifice my defence in order to bolster the midfield. I started playing 3-5-2 a couple of weeks ago and it has really helped (moved up 100,000 places in 2 GWs). Aguero will be interesting to watch: if he recaptures his pre-injury form quickly, then he’s a must have; otherwise, I’d be prepared to stick with Lukaku and go with a midfield of Walcott, Hazard, Yaya/Ozil, Silva, Gerrard. Also, I cannot believe how everyone has written off Ozil. I’m loving the fact that his price continues to fall because he will definitely figure in my plans.

        • The B says:

Thats a good perspective Blue. Cant really ignore City midfield, as that would be a fantasy sin, but looking at recent form of Newcastle, i think coverage from that area would be nice too.

In this first half it is observed that pricey defenders actually give better returns per million as compared to midfielders, which is the reason why i dont want to ignore that part in coming half.

Yes, Ozil is a nice shout. I only dropped him last week due to injury, he could have been a nice differential in January.

        • blue_moon says:

Completely agree with you. It was very noticeable that the expensive defenders scored best in the first half of the season. Surely it can’t continue, can it, particularly as teams jostle for positions?

My Wc team has currently Davis (gk), Clyne n Lallana

    Too much? Any concerns?
