Tips to consider employing in the Fantasy Premier League this season

With managers already selecting their squads and considering their captaincy picks in the season’s early stages, Fantasy Premier League is well and truly back! For FPL managers, the upcoming season looks even more challenging, particularly given the various price changes and the highly competitive nature of the league.

Of course, many people will still be loading up on Liverpool players and attacking Chelsea’s good early fixtures, but there are some other tips managers should consider employing. In the same way that other sports fans do by researching NBA statistics and assessing college football odds before backing a specific team, FPL managers should always look at ways they can adapt and evolve throughout the season.

With numerous tips shared by previous winners and players everywhere debating about a somewhat new-look FPL this season, particularly given the introduction of two sets of chips, we highlight some valuable tips you should consider employing in the Fantasy Premier League this season.

 Form over fixtures

First and foremost, although many FPL managers study fixtures and plan accordingly, it isn’t always advisable. For many managers, form comes ahead of everything else. Fixtures are essential, but they shouldn’t necessarily dictate your strategy. Instead, consider looking at a player’s form and whether or not they’re capable of producing the goods regardless of the opponent.

Don’t go for a team containing Salah, Palmer, and Haaland.

While creating a team containing big hitters like Erling Haaland, Mo Salah, and Cole Palmer is tempting, it won’t leave you with enough funds to build a solid all-around team. Balance is generally crucial in FPL, particularly with injuries and player rotation likely to occur. It helps to have a more balanced squad that deals with the gruelling Premier League schedule. Building a team with Salah, Palmer, and Haaland isn’t impossible; it’s tricky. Likewise, some players might even opt for Saka instead of the Chelsea man, given their similar prices. Regardless, you’ll have a lot of deadwood elsewhere, and should City’s goal machine draw a blank over a couple of weeks or Salah go off the boil, then you could be chasing the ranks in no time.

Turn to a wide range of valuable resources.

Despite many people looking at social media sites like X to give themselves an edge over the competition, given the array of experts, there are other options you should consider turning to throughout the season. The FPL Pod and Planet FPL – The Fantasy Football Podcast are excellent options, FPL Blackbox and Let’s Talk FPL are informative YouTube channels, and r/FantasyPL and r/fplAnalytics are active Reddit groups.

Don’t waste your chips early.

With many managers considering introducing two sets of chips as an opportunity to throw everything at the first few weeks of the season, it might not be wise. With teams potentially rotated and new players settling in, you might waste these invaluable assets on what essentially is an unknown quantity. Sure, some managers are opting to Bench Boost for the opening fixture, but using other chips in the following weeks is probably not a good idea. Bide your time, wait a few weeks, and let the league take shape before using your first set of chips early.

HUGE FPL CHANGES

Timing is key

Finally, don’t rush into making potentially game-changing decisions. While you might need to make transfers early to avoid price drops, it shouldn’t always be the case. As such, avoid knee-jerk reactions and back players or strategies for more than a single game week.
