What Do Footballers Do in Their Spare Time?

If you follow a football team, there’s a chance you watch the players multiple times a week. It’s natural to wonder what they do when they’re not on the pitch. We’re not suggesting footballers don’t work hard, but there’s no denying that they get some time for their hobbies. There are only so many hours in the day that they can train for.

Despite analysis, physical conditioning, and other training sessions, a lot of footballers are done by mid-afternoon. So, what do they get up to in their spare time?

Gambling
It is known that a lot of the very best footballers enjoy playing casino games both in-person and online. For example, even superstars like Lionel Messi have been photographed playing at casinos. While he was playing for Barcelona, he and his teammate Gerard Pique would attend some of the city’s casino destinations.

He’s far from the only footballer to enjoy gambling. While former Liverpool star Harry Kewell was playing in Australia he attended the opening of a brick-and-mortar casino. He and other Aussie stars are likely fans of enjoying traditional or online casinos, especially nowadays you can easily find an online casino in Australia, in the USA, Canada, Europe, and elsewhere. So, when you see a photo of your favorite player staring at the smartphone screen, never be sure that they necessarily scroll the Instagram timeline.

Gaming (Including Video Games)
There’s no denying it, footballers tend to love video games. Sometimes we get a little insight into this, like when Harry Kane and Dele Alli would share clips from their Fortnite sessions online. Footballers like all kinds of games but it is common to see them playing things like Call of Duty and Fortnite.

Antoine Griezmann, the French superstar, is known to be a fan of Football Manager and shares details about his Newcastle game on social media regularly. You’ve got to be nuts about football to play all day and then go home and play FM. Maybe he will become a manager in real life once his playing days are over.

Golf
Golf is known to be one of the favorite hobbies of footballers. They are the ideal target market for golf courses as they often have free afternoons, money to buy fancy equipment, and physical fitness to get around the course. On top of this, footballers often get summer off, which means prime golfing time.

There are hundreds of players who are known to enjoy golf, but we simply have to mention Gareth Bale as an example. While he was playing as a professional until fairly recently, he managed to get his handicap to an incredible level of two. This means that he is better than a lot of the amateur golfers out there.

There have even been rumors that Bale might go into pro golf now his career on the pitch is over. He would be the first former footballer to ever reach a high professional level if he manages to do so. Other footballers who have been good at golf include Ruud Gullit and Andriy Shevchenko.

Fantasy Football
Ever fancied taking on some of the Premier League’s biggest stars at football? Well, your closest alternative might be to take them on at fantasy football. There are plenty of footballers who enter their teams in fantasy football and are looking for the latest info and predictions.

It is always amusing to look through their teams, too, as you can see which players they rank most highly and have in their teams. Some of the fantasy players don’t even pick themselves for their teams!

We all know that fantasy football takes some dedication, too. Players are good at working out who is going to be playing in certain games, analyzing weaknesses within teams, and choosing the best players for their fantasy teams. They get a unique view of what is happening in the industry, and it is always interesting to check out what this means for their selections.
