Woofbet Tournament Spotlight Gameweek 24 – Fantasy Premier League Betting

Woofbet Logo

A week has passed, a transfer window has closed and a whole new range of tournaments are upon us. After just one week it seems that the Woofbet and Fantasy Football 247 partnership is as natural as Heskey alongside Guðjohnsen; after we immediately provided the same kind of prolific results. This gameweek we tore apart the tournament entry and sign up records like they were Aston Villa’s defence and handed out more money in prizes than QPR’s chairman did in the January transfer window. Most excitingly a new generation of Woofbet managers arrived and staked an immediate claim, with one narrowly clenching the title over our very own KopWarrior in the weekend’s biggest freeroll. Once again we’re back to highlight the tournaments that you wouldn’t want to miss this weekend: from the massive prizepools to the exciting new concepts, all of which test your skills on the sidelines in the name of some real money. Isn’t it time that your fantasy manager job paid off?!

Gameweek 24 kicks off this weekend and Woofbet.com has over €4500 up for grabs across 30 weekly tournaments. This week there’s a generous €1150 in free entry prizes and a whopping €3400 in guaranteed pots. You’ll also have the option to create your own tournaments and head-to-head challenges. Choose your own rules and buy-in fees then invite your friends or leave it open for the public to challenge you!

February’s Best Manager / Free – €20 Entry / €500 – €1000 Prizepool

January's Best Manager

A new month is upon us, which means it’s time for another installment of our Best Manager tournament. Each month we see a record-breaking number of managers compete for the entire month to take a cut of one of the most lucrative prizepools on Woofbet. The tournament runs from GW24 through until GW27 so never before has a carefully crafted squad been more critical. We recommended you check out the Fixture Tracker to ensure your team provides the necessary depth and rotates well throughout the month. Last month’s winner got off to a slow start in the tournament but that didn’t stop him. After ignoring advice to abandon the sinking ship by expert in that field; Harry Redknapp (but seriously R’s, you’re lucky it wasn’t a Tal Ben Haim too late!), he managed to turn things around to average a score of 71 points per gameweek. Sounds achievable right? Surely you can beat that?! The rules operate like normal fantasy football, once GW24 kicks off you get 1 free transfer per week and you’ll receive a -4 deduction for every additional transfer you make over the limit. This month’s tournament is certain to live up to its huge reputation with the January transfer window providing us more choices and lot more differentials to take a punt on. Former fantasy favorites Lennon and Sinclair have moved clubs to nail down some consistent playing time in an attempt to reignite their careers. If either of them find the form they once had they could bring big points to your team. Meanwhile, we also welcome a few exciting new faces to the Premier League including Columbian winger Juan Cuadrado, who joins league leaders Chelsea making their already fierce attack somewhat fiercer. Derby Day / Free Entry / €150 Prizepool

Matches of the Week GW23

Undergoing a complete name change for this week only, Derby Day (also known as Matches of the Week) returns to challenge your prediction skills over the space of just 2 matches. You’ll have the chance to storm out of the gates in Saturday’s early kick off when Tottenham host the Gunners in the North London Derby. After this you will have a short break to compose yourself before Liverpool travel down the road to take on Everton, where you can add to your perfect (or poor) performance during the Merseyside Derby. With a small selection of players to choose from, combined with an average of 150 managers participating, your team selection MUST be spot on. If a player scores big and he isn’t your captain, you’ll be travelling down the table faster than Samuel Eto’o through Merseyside. As well as captaincy selection, clean sheets are a good way to tally up some big points. A common tactic in this tournament is to pick 1 team who you think will keep a clean sheet and then proceed to load up your defence with their players. But predicting where the clean sheet will come from in these 2 matches… I’ll leave that to you. With derbies usually providing a wealth of goals, assists and cards, we tip this tournament to be one of the highest scoring yet! Full Round / €5 Entry / €150 Prizepool

150 Guarantee

FIVERS IN EVERYBODY! Running along side our freeroll tournaments we also host a range of buy-ins with guaranteed pots. A guaranteed pot is a prizepool that is fixed regardless of the amount of entrants; for example in this weeks €5 Entry – €150 Guaranteed, if only 3 people enter, the prizepool will still stand at €150 and will be split between the 3 entrants regardless of their entry fee only equating to €15. This is the perfect opportunity for managers who want to enter tournaments with less competition and reduce the odds of their expertly researched team getting denied the top spot due to a lucky captaincy. Less entrants also means a better prizepool payout percentage. Last week saw 25 managers signed up and only the top 5 split the cash. Get your captain right, get a few differential points and some clean sheets; and you’re guaranteed a nice little return on your small investment. Last weeks winner experienced ‘joy of the auto-sub’ when Kane was transferred in for injured Sanchez providing his team with an additional 12 points; enough to place him top by 1 point. If you’re reading this, let’s hope you haven’t used up all your luck! We also have a range of cheaper and more expensive buy-in tournaments over on Woofbet.com – so check them out and see which ones right for you budget. On behalf of WoofBet, I’d like to wish you all the best of luck in this weeks tournaments. Feel free to share your teams and keep us posted on how you’re doing via Twitter or Facebook!

Hi all! Thinking about playing Krul over Ospina this week, think that’s a good idea? Seems odd to go for Newcastle defence over Arsenal, but they’re at home to Stoke…

Only Sanchez can go from orange to red and then back to orange all in the same week!
The guy is super human, wouldn’t surprise me if he comes off the bench against Tott

Hello FF experts. I’m on a wildcard and i left the most difficult transfers last. I am seriously thinking of doing DDG —> Pantiboy, Downing —> Sterling as my final 2 transfers of my WC. The only problem is that i have lots of value stuck on them. Got DDG at 5.5, SP 5.7 CP 5.9 and i got Downing at 5.6, SP 6.1, CP 6.6. (if you know what i mean). Should i just go ahead with both transfers? They say that team value isn’t that important on the second half of the season like right now. Downing is about to enter a run of difficult games: MUN, soton, tot, CPL, CHE, ars. Anyone care to offer their views?

I’d ditch him. The ‘losing value’ issue is really only valid if you plan to buy him back at some point… otherwise, you’ve gained 0.5m on him, not lost it. If you think Sterling will do better (he has tough fixtures too y’know) then go for it.

      • Eagle says:

Yes James i’m aware he has some testing fixtures too but with the return of Sturridge, i believe he will do well. If it helps, my closest rival has Downing too so Sterling as differential.

        • jamesimmo says:

Sterling is hitting some great form, so I’d defintely agree and advise Sterling > Downing, even before the rival part! Go for it.

Eagle i’d forget about losing value on players unless you intend to buy them straight back as James said,at this stage of the season its about racking up the points. You need some chelsea attack in there mate so Hazard is a must in my opinion. If you switched Sanchez to walcott and de gea to Foster that should just give you enough cash then to turn Downing into Hazard ?? Also consider switching Wisdom to Naughton, who rotates quite well with van Aanholt and gives you another .2m to play with. Then i would say you have a pretty great team 😉

      • Eagle says:

Wow never thought about doing that Brookyboy. I must agree with you that it looks great. The only downside would be losing Sanchez. But Wally, Caz and Giroud would make up for it. So no Sterling for you then?

        • Brookyboy says:

Not having Sanchez would be a gamble, but i think we may see a bit of rotation in the Arsenal midfield now everybody is fit and champions league games are on the horizon.Just think it would give you a really nice balanced team.I’d stay clear from sterling for now,as good a player as he is his returns have been disappointing and even with Sturridge back,Liverpools fixtures aren’t too cracky and there are so many other good options with great upcoming fixtures.

    Fabregas fit!

Now I’m even more stuck about what to do.

Do i keep both Sanchez & Fab and not bring in Cazorla?

Fab should play & Sanchez back sooner rather than later but Cazorla in red hot form…

      RedVT says:

Ha, I’m in the same boat Shadow! Fabregas against Villa looks pretty good on paper and I’d be happy to keep him until his blank GW. Who is your 5th midfielder? Right now I’m thinking of keeping Sanchez and Fabregas and upgrading my 5th midfielder so I have good cover if needed. Who is your 5th mid?

    RedVT says:

Hey guys, with Fabregas passed fit and Sanchez very close I’m no longer sure about my moves this week. Any suggestions on what to do with my 2 free transfers? I was thinking about benching Sanchez and bringing in Puncheon for Boyd (this assumes that Fabregas will play). Or is there something else you would do? My original plans this week were Fabregas and Boyd out for Cazorla and Puncheon, but now that Fabregas is fit I’m not so sure.

      jamesimmo says:

I was gonna bench Sanchez for Boyd but have bottled it now. I think Boyd to Puncheon is a bit a sideways (won’t you be benching him most weeks?) but if you’re willing to bench Sanchez then it’s an option.

Assume you’re keeping hold of Bertrand?

      • RedVT says:

Hi James, how’s it going mate? Yeah, I think my defense can survive benching Bertrand for now. If I don’t bring in Cazorla this week I could get Bellerin next week before the Leicester match and my 3 Arsenal players would be Bellerin, Sanchez, and Giroud. Punch would get benched more often than not, but he does give me a bit more flexibility. He could even start over Kane once in a while depending on fixtures.

        • jamesimmo says:

Not bad thanks, been busy at sixth form lately but Arsenal have picked up form haha, how’s you? Yeah that’s a nice trio. We get to see the lineup for that game too. Cazorla is in red hot form but I’d keep Fabregas for now if I were you.

Fair do’s. If you get Punch (or indeed keep Boyd) will you start him?

        • RedVT says:

Things are well here in Vermont James. Although we’re supposed to get 15 + inches of snow this weekend and it’s -2 below zero (fahrenheit!). Yes, I think I would bench Sanchez and play Puncheon against Leicester if I bring him in. If I keep Boyd I would probably start Sanchez and hope for the best!

        • jamesimmo says:

Haha no way! The Fahrenheit scale is crazy, as a wanna-be scientist, the Kelvin scale makes the most sense to me. 😉 hopefully you won’t be snowed in completely! Although that would be a good excuse to watch all of the footy… 😉

Ah I see, makes sense, it’s a risk (imagine if Sanchez starts and you have to pray Punch outscores him…) but 9 times outta 10 it shouldn’t burn you. Boyd isn’t that bad an option either, but it is Burnley, so playing good ol’ George might be a step too far.
