Woofbet Tournament Spotlight Gameweek 27 – Fantasy Premier League Betting
This must be the first time in Tournament Spotlight history where we can look back at the previous gameweek, nod in approval at our players and agree that they performed relatively like we expected. I’m also going to now take the next few sentences of your life to dwell in ones predictory success. Last week – watch your back KopWarrior – a certain managerial genius tipped Kane to blank, Ivanovic & Lukaku as worthy captain choices and N’Doye to smash one home for the second week running. Not a bad weeks tipping if you’re asking me! Alright, alright… I’m ignoring the fact I tipped Zouma, Wollscheild & Stones to keep clean sheets. Also, that little part where I might have said that Aston Villa vs. Stoke & Hull vs. QPR were the two most likely fixtures to remain goalless. This week I’ve brushed up on my defensive research and returned alongside Woofbet to bring you a spotlight of the finest Fantasy Premier League betting tournaments this weekend!
Gameweek 27 kicks off tomorrow and Woofbet.com has thousands up for grabs across multiple tournaments. This gameweek there’s €300 in free entry prizes and a solid €1475 in guaranteed pots. You also have the option to create your own tournaments and head-to-head challenges. Choose your own rules and buy-in fees then invite your friends or leave it open for the public to challenge you!
Low Budget / €3 Entry / €125 Guaranteed Prizepool
Quickly becoming one of our favorite tournaments over on Woofbet.com due to the huge variety of player selections each week is the Low Budget Teams tournament. With an overall team budget set at a mere 80 million, you’ll have to climb deep in to the player bargain bin, rummage your way through Fabricio Coloccini’s hair and past the pre owned center backs until you unearth yourself a true gem. Due to the League Cup rescheduling 2 of this week’s Premier League fixtures, teams are going to become more diverse than ever before as popular cheapies such as Harry Kane and Charlie Austin are left without a fixture. Now that we’ve got you scratching your head over who to pick this weekend with your 2 main men out of the equation, we’re going to hit you with some discount deals that you won’t be able to resist. At a price of just 5.5m you could get your hands on an almost brand new Dame N’Doye. The Senegalese striker has bagged 2 goals and an assist during his 2 starts for Hull and after rewarding us for tipping him last week, we’ve decided to stick by him again on his visit to The Britannia. This weekend we’ve got 10% off all Papiss Cisse’s, valued at a price just 5.4m (RRP 6.0m). So far this season the Newcastle striker has the best minutes per goal record in the entire Premier League – soon to be shattered by Mr. Aguero, but try fitting him within your budget! This weekend Cisse faces a Vlaar-less Villa, who’ve adopted an attacking ethos under Tim Sherwood that’ll likely leave them even more vulnerable at the back. Our final bargain of the week might come as a bit of a surprise solely based on the fact that he isn’t Senegalese like the previous 2. At a mouthwatering price of just 5.9m you can have a Danny Ings in your starting line up this weekend complete with a lifetime satisfaction guarantee, not like you’ll need it. The Burnley talisman has scored 5 goals in 7 games so far in 2015 and if The Clarets find the back of Swansea’s net this weekend, you can be sure that his name will be on the score sheet. Keep hold of your receipt just in case though. To open the tournament page in a new tab click here (upon logging in/signing up you’ll be directed to the team selection page).
Double or Nothing / €20 Entry
A tournament made with your wallets in mind. Double or Nothing returns this week offering managers the unmissable opportunity to double their money if they can finish in the top half. Regardless of whether you finish 1st or 15th, as long as you finish in the top half you’ll get your money doubled. Be aware that now coming 1st holds no importance, your Double or Nothing team will manage to find their way to the top spot, leaving you frustrated you’ll only get the same pay-out as everybody else – but that’s just the way FPL goes! The most important decision you will make for this tournament is your captaincy selection. If a popular player bags a brace and he’s not wearing your armband, start waving goodbye to your €20 investment. So enlighten us oh mighty captaincy tipper, whom should we pick? This weekend Kun Aguero is the only one option for us and we’re sure most of you won’t need any explanation as to why. Take the risk if you’ve got the minerals, but we all know you’ll regret it when he smashes one in after 8 minutes. The Argentinian has been absolutely unstoppable over the past few weeks in all competitions tallying up 4 goals and an assist in just 3 games. Credit where credit’s due, Liverpool’s defence has been absolutely top notch recently as well, holding out for 5 clean sheets in their last 6 Premier League matches. However, we’re talking about shutting out the striker who comfortably put 3 past Bayern Munich to send City through the Champions League group stage. If you’re set on handing your armband out elsewhere you should really be rewarded a few points handicap, but for the sake of the Woofbet developers we won’t be implementing a ‘not-captaining-Aguero-handicap’ this weekend and will instead try calmly coax you in to choosing one of our back up picks. In case you didn’t notice last weekend at Palace, or during the week at Monaco, Alexis Sanchez has returned from injury. The Chilean winger didn’t exactly explode back on the scene like poor old Arsene had hoped, but there’s no denying what he’s capable of and it’s only a matter of time until he regains his prolific form. Angel Di Maria, although not really living up to his £56 million price tag as of late, has still knocked together some consistent points over the recent weeks. As long ball specialists; Manchester United host underperforming Black Cats, he certainly stands out as the go-to player for the fixture. Micro Limit / €2 Entry / €100 Guaranteed Prizepool
With the €300 freeroll getting increasingly harder to win as more and more users flood in, a good tactic would be to starting investing some small change in to the low buy-in tournaments. This weekend we’ve got another Micro Limit tournament that lets managers compete for a €100 guaranteed prizepool at a buy-in cost of just €2. What’s a guaranteed prizepool we hear you ask! It’s a fixed minimum regardless of the amount of entrants; for example in this weeks €2 Entry – €100 Guaranteed, if only 3 people enter the prizepool will still stand at €100, despite their entrance fee only equating to €6. However, if the tournament reaches the guaranteed amount in entrant fees (in this case 50 entrants x €2 entry = €100) then the prizepool will begin rising by €2 for every entry over 50. It’s important to choose your defence wisely as clean sheet points will contribute nicely to your total points. A common tactic in weekly FPL is to double, or even triple up on defenders from clubs you’re certain will shut out their opposition. After giving some pretty dodgy defensive advice last weekend we’ve taken extra care over who we’ve tipped this time around. On Saturday the team with the highest number of clean sheets in the league, visit the team with the second highest number of clean sheets, in a fixture that ended in a goalless draw earlier in the season. West Brom vs. Southampton looks poised to be as goalless as ever with The Saints being both impenetrable at the back and going forward. Maya Yoshida will likely make another start for Southampton, as teammate Toby Alderweireld is yet to return from a hamstring injury. The Japanese centre half is valued at just 4.3m and has kept 2 clean sheets in his last 3 matches as well as an assist for Sadio Mane’s late winner vs. QPR. Ben Foster has well and truly earned his place between our sticks as he enters this gameweek on the back of 2 consecutive clean sheets. Tony Pulis has ran a tight ship defensively since taking over as Baggies boss and we can see him shutting down Southampton a lot easier than they’ll break him down. On behalf of WoofBet, I’d like to wish you all the best of luck in this weeks tournaments. Feel free to share your team in the comments or on Twitter, I’m interested to see who you guys are going with!
Many thanks Jamie, great stuff. This is turning into a second Tips article! We’ve created a monster
Just keeping Kop on his toes 😉
Cheers Jamie. We’ll have to have a ‘Tip off’
Challenge accepted 😉
Just a quick question.does the current monthly wodfbet competiton finish after the midweek games or after next saturdays game ? I’m assuming after next saturdays game as it says it has 8 days left ??
That’s a mistake on our part. February’s Best Manager will finish at the end of GW27. Where are you in the league? Do you still stand a chance of winning some cash?
I’m 4th !!
4th? The pints are on Brooky
Not yet !! 😉
Do cards accumulated in the Capital One final count in EPL play? Thanks.
Yes they do Ki. All domestic comps are lumped together. Europe is a separate issue.
Great stuff Jamie, many thanks – great read and loving the Comps. Especially the emails at the end of them when they tell you where they finished. There’s sooooo many names to look for to search for my finishing position – but i’ve cracked it. Start at the bottom and i soon spot little ol’ me!
I want to know if they are ever going to run a consistency competition? Surely you and I would win something there, always around the last couple of spots.
Maybe a competition with a twist. Where they assign you a partner of their choosing. 😉
They’d just screw us and partner us together !!!
Haha – designed with Cookie in mind!
pipe down you or I’ll put you forward for the Team Talk writing job :hippo:
Leave him alone Cookie, he’s going to write the Tips article from now on 😉
That’s cool mate, but if we screw him into TeamTalk too, we can go and play some golf.
