Woofbet Tournament Spotlight Round 16 – Fantasy Champions League Betting
You will have to cast your memory back to early December for the last time Europe’s elite competition graced our television sets on Tuesday & Wednesday evenings. That week Barcelona ensured top spot in group F; Dortmund drew with Anderlecht to pip Arsenal to top spot in group D, setting up a last 16 clash with Juventus – the only remaining Italian side in the competition. Meanwhile Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta scored away from home against Roma to take Manchester City through the Group of Death. The Champions League has proved worth the wait and has finally returned with an exciting set of fixtures that will see some of Europe’s giants face against each other, and beginning this week WoofBet will be launching their first EVER official Champions League tournaments.
Round 16 kicks off this TUESDAY and Woofbet.com has over €5000 up for grabs across 5 mid-week tournaments. This gameweek there’s a generous €500 in free entry prizes and a record breaking €4500 in guaranteed pots. You also have the option to create your own tournaments and head-to-head challenges. Choose your own rules and buy-in fees then invite your friends or leave it open for the public to challenge you!
Round 16 / Both Legs / €30 Entry / €3000 Guaranteed Prizepool
€3000. You don’t need to pinch yourself, you’re not dreaming. We’re actually giving away a humungous, record breaking, guaranteed amount of €3000 to the highest scoring managers across both legs. The prizepool is set at a guaranteed minimum of €3000, if the tournament meets this amount in entry fees it will then begin to rise by €30 per entrant. For example 100 entrants x €30 entry = €3000, so from 101 entrants onwards the prizepool will rise by €30. So if you fancy yourself as a bit of a big spender or have been frugally saving your Woofbet money over the last few months, then now is the time to trust your managerial skills and invest into a big old juicy return. As these tournaments have a lower number of entrants due to the buy-in fee, you can almost guarantee that if you correctly select your captain over the two legs then you’ll be turning a profit from the tournament. It’s also important to consider your squad depth. A popular choice is to have an inactive bench consisting of the cheapest players to free up funds for your starting 11, but in a tournament that runs over two legs that might not be the wisest choice. You need to consider rotation of players to ensure a good balance of home and away fixtures. If your entire team are playing at home in the first leg, then expect to either have a whole team playing away or a huge point hit in the second. Not to mention your bench will also need to provide adequate cover for players susceptible to cards, injuries and fitness rotation. There’s a lot of research to be done, a lot of luck required and a lot of money to be won on this tournament! Round 16 / First Leg / €10 Entry / €500 Guaranteed Prizepool
We have a tasty €500 guaranteed prizepool ready to be split between the managers who can best predict what’s going to happen during this explosive first leg. The tournament costs a reasonable fee of €10 to enter, which is an amount most regular users will have scraped together from some ample freeroll success. The prizepool is set at a guaranteed minimum of €500; if the tournament meets this amount in entry fees it will then begin to rise by €10 per entrant. For example 50 entrants x €10 entry = €500, so from 51 entrants onwards the prizepool will rise by €10. You have a budget of 100M, which is quite tight considering we’re talking about making a squad from the world’s elite. Choosing between Ronaldo or Messi, or whether to have both, is going to play a huge part in the outlay of your team. Choosing both would set you back an initial 28M leaving you with just 72M left to splash on a bunch of budget players and an inactive bench. Having just one would mean you’d have to make the decision of who to choose, a decision that will likely come back to haunt you either way. Then there’s the option of having neither of them… A very bold decision that we imagine a few managers will have the courage to execute. It’s an appealing choice to have a balanced team filled with the likes of Neuer, Jaunfran & Robben but you’d also have to go through 180 minutes of stress, hoping that Barcelona and Madrid don’t score during any of their attacks. Whatever you choose, I’m sure you’ll regret it in one way or another… that’s just how fantasy football works! 1 Player Per Team / First Leg / Free Entry / €200 Prizepool
Making its Champions League debut this week, after only making it’s Premier League one a month back is a tournament that’s become an instant favourite on Woofbet.com. 1 Player Per Team is a simple concept where managers are tested to create a squad of 13 players from 13 different teams (as it’s name suggests) within the price budget of 95M. This week it’s completely free to enter, doesn’t require a deposit and if you need even more enticing; there’s a nice little €200 prizepool to be split between the best managers. More often than not your choice of captaincy will be pinnacle to your success within this tournament. Having Mario Mandzukic as he booked Atletico a slot in the final 16 with a hat-trick would have given you a huge advantage in any of that month’s tournaments. But still, giving Ronaldo or Messi the armband as well making a few decent differential choices, such as the mighty Chancel Mbemba, who bagged 2 goals from defence and picked up a clean sheet, would have put you in an equally as good position. This goes to show that a good all round selection can still reign superior to a flukey captain choice. With hundreds of managers competing it’s going to take a stroke of managerial genius to take the top spot. So don’t underestimate the power of some well-researched gambles when selecting your side, as having the template team will only get you the same amount of points as everybody else. On behalf of WoofBet, I’d like to wish you all the best of luck in this weeks tournaments. Feel free to share your teams and keep us posted on how you’re doing via Twitter or Facebook!

Hmmm. I was gonna go with Bertrand, since he’s only 5.7m now, but Toby at 4.8m seems like a real steal and that 0.9m etra cash could be spend elsewhere. He might get his odd goal at that. Sighs. Watcha guys reckon?
Also, if Defoe stays as he is I think I might replace him with Costa.
Raz, Toby is a steal at 4.8mln, but I fancy Liverpool score there at the weekend.
Not getting Toby for this weekend. If anything I’ll replace Kompany with Bruce and Defoe with ummmm Costa.
nice moves those Raz
Giroud to Defoe and Silva to Sanchez seemed like nice moves. We all know how that ended up. Costa is a season keeper though and Kompany after just 2 games is really starting to annoy me. Yes, surely he scores and keep a CS in his next freaking game and Bruce comes on for 1 minute. That’s my luck as of late. I don’t care though. We all need to take risks.
Come on Razzle, stop feeling sorry for yourself! If you truly believe Costa is a season keeper then you should ship him in asap. Kompany is an overpriced waste of money mate, will get the odd clean sheet but doesn’t justify his price.
It’s for a hit Cookie. But if Defoe is injured it does feel justified. I’ll bench Haz/Costa/Kane for the blank GW and try to field 11 players somehow.
It’s up to whether Costa can make up the price of the hit – of course he should do, but then of course City should keep a cs home to Toon also!
So peepz. This UCL tonight and tomorrow. We’ll have games on the 17th/18th and the 24th/25th. Do they both count as 1 round? Or do I need to manage to field 11 players now and 11 next week with hits?
It’s effectively 1 round Raz. I’ve got about 8 going tonight and 6 for next week if need be. You need to cover both weeks with your WC. You then get 1 FT before the second legs of these ties start.
Aaah ok, tnx mate.
Just noticed there is a WC. Was gonna take a lot of hits if this were not the case.
I don’t really care about UCL and I think I might get Ibra. Can I cap Ibra tonight and if he does nothing Ronaldo tomorrow?
You certainly can.
I think!
You can, but Ibra wont like it!
So, Defoe is out (and blanked against QPR as well). Simple swap to N’Doye? Then keep carrying 2FT thru to GW28 (sell a Chelsea player in GW27, buy a Chelsea player plus Eriksen in GW28?
doesn’t sound the worst idea GKW, the boy is certainly in form!
Ok, here you have the UCL team. Is it okay?
Owwwwwwwww shit, I want Ibra but Chelsea are an awful team that know how to defend. Instead of my heart I need to go with my mind. Ibra to Robben and Fabinho to Ivanovic.
That probably makes more sense. Or even squeeze Messi in there?
It’s funny how Messi is the first for many and last on the list for me. But you’re right, I probably should get him if I can.
Psg won corresponding fixture 3-1 last season.Stick with Ibra
If Chelsea’s DGW is confirmed for GW28 then I have a no-hit plan to get me Costa and a Spurs midfielder. Perfect.
…but wait. It’s not: it gives me 7.8m to spend, so I can’t afford Eriksen if I get Costa, but is that unacceptable?
As in, would Chadli or even Dembele suffice instead, or do you think I need to rethink my plan?
DUDE. It won’t be confirmed. Why should it be? It’s not helping me, is it?
Sorry I forgot the FA checked with you first. My bad. 😉
