World Cup Quarter Finals Live Match Chat

Welcome to World Cup Quarter Finals Live Match Chat. And then there were eight. Well, England plus another seven 😉 Some surprises along the way mixed with some familiar names progressing sees us arrive at the quarter-final stage with everything to play for. Like any tournament the continued presence of the home nation is generally seen as a positive, except by Spain of course who have already departed for the more familiar surroundings of Costa Blanca. We have also waved goodbye to Messi and Ronaldo and a new superstar has been born in Mbappe.

Sadly we said farewell to the gallant Japanese but with England facing Sweden, expectations continue to reach epic proportions. It’s coming home. Isn’t it?! Ah c’mon, let us dream!

We have the next two days off until we reconvene on Friday, so plenty of time to think over plans and transfers. Is it time to play a Chip or have they been utilised/wasted already?!

From a fantasy point of view we have 3 free transfers for this round and we can now own a maximum of five players from any one team.

THE GAMES IN FULL

Friday 6th July

Uruguay vs France (3pm)

Brazil vs Belgium (7pm)

Saturday 7th July

Sweden vs England (3pm)

Russia vs Croatia (7pm)

So that you have them to hand in one place here’s a reminder of the substitution rules, transfer allotment, wildcard and boosters. AKA the rules…

  1. Stick with Courtois on 5pts or gamble on Pickford ?

  2. So English colleagues,

    How are those bums then?

    Twitch twitch.

    • Morning mate!
I actually feel fine today, less nervous than Colombia… which probably means ‘we’re’ and not ‘its’ coming home!!

    • All good we will beat Sweden

    • It’s coming home GP just looking fwd to the day

    • Confident about today. Sweden are a very well organised mid table Premier League team, essentially. The downside to that is so are we! Except we have Kane and they have Marcus Berg. 2-0 Kane brace.

      • Hey Init just been looking at team for start of season what do you thk Eve will do this season thinking of taking either Tosun or Niasse the later to save cash maybe a def as well who would you have & Walcot might be worth a punt what are your thoughts???

        • No love for the Fwds Cookie just trying to take advantage of low prices & early fixtures

        • Wait and see who Moyes brings in in January.

      • hoping you are wrong Initt, but i got a feeling that you are right. Both teams have simillar stenghts

        • Well if I’m not I’m guessing you’ll probably have the site to yourself this evening from about 6pm smile

Where are you watching it? And what’s the expectation / mood like over there?

      • Hope you’re right Innit

        • So do I, just went into our normally sedentary village and the whole place is like Ibiza at 2am!

        • I’m a Scot, in China, and I’m so feckin’ excited even I can’t believe it. TV figures about 32m for UK?

        • Hit 24 for Colombia. Guess because it’s Saturday though a lot more will be in a pub.

Got a tenner on my prediction.

        • Fingers crossed for 2-0 it is then

    • Well good luck today boys.

If there’s one side who can frustrate the life out of you and who also knows you inside out, it’s the Swedes.

England through for me but maybe not in 90 minutes.

  3. It’s unlikely the game Russia vs Croatia to see clean sheets, my prediction is penalties after 2-2 in ET. Should I drop Vida on the bench and play Claesson??

    • If that’s your feeling Ivan then yeah.

I think Croatia will win and have a decent chance of a clean sheet personally.

      • That crossed my mind as well GP but the Russians will fight hard and will find the net at some point. On the other hand, I think England will go through after another penalties drama and there will be goals in that game too.

  4. Sweden vs England

    • Alli and Sterling need to stand up and be counted today, they’ve been crap so far.

      • Agree on Alli. He was our worst player in both games he played. He’s looked injured, weak and off the pace. I think Sterling did a lot of unnoticed work against Colombia.

      • I think it’s time for Jesse to shine.

      • Marcus to score the winner in 95th minute; no hold on I’m pissing Innit off; Marcus to score his 2nd in 95th m, 2-0 or bust!

  5. Hey guys, how’s it going?? Wanted to pop in a wish all my English friends the best of luck today, really hoping to see you guys win!! It’s been a great tournament so far, lots of big upsets and some fantastic drama. And also a really nice change (for me) to watch the football and enjoy it without any fantasy pressure! Really excited for the FPL season to start, had a nice little break from everything and am getting ready to wade back into the madness.

Hope everyone is well, good luck today!!! smile

    • Cheers Red, good to hear from you. Hope you are well mate.

      • Thanks init, things are good here. Just getting used to life with a 3YO and 6 month old. You know the drill, lots of changes but all good stuff!! Hope all is well with you, let’s go England!

    • Thanks Red nice to have you back buddy!! I could do with a break but there’s a good few weeks between the WC and the PRem so that will do!!!

      • Hey Rosco, good to see you mate! Yeah, I don’t know how you guys play WC fantasy, MLS, etc. I’m so drained from research and the stress of FPL that I need to recharge the batteries after the season is over. Had a nice little break though so I’m ready to get back into things now! smile

  6. My flat’s on 25th floor, so I (in China remember) have a great view of the main drag, about 2 miles of it (yes really). The street’s emptying, traffic is dwindling, foot traffic is absent. This really is a World Cup for the ages, well done Russia, tips hat!
