Welcome to World Cup Quarter Finals Live Match Chat. And then there were eight. Well, England plus another seven 😉 Some surprises along the way mixed with some familiar names progressing sees us arrive at the quarter-final stage with everything to play for. Like any tournament the continued presence of the home nation is generally seen as a positive, except by Spain of course who have already departed for the more familiar surroundings of Costa Blanca. We have also waved goodbye to Messi and Ronaldo and a new superstar has been born in Mbappe.
Sadly we said farewell to the gallant Japanese but with England facing Sweden, expectations continue to reach epic proportions. It’s coming home. Isn’t it?! Ah c’mon, let us dream!
We have the next two days off until we reconvene on Friday, so plenty of time to think over plans and transfers. Is it time to play a Chip or have they been utilised/wasted already?!
From a fantasy point of view we have 3 free transfers for this round and we can now own a maximum of five players from any one team.

I would have balked if he’d been classified as a striker. I’ve lost hours of sleep fretting over how he’d be classified. But a 3-5-2 may be in order.
I’ve got him in for now. I suspect nine tenths of my ML will have him.
Will play around with Mane/Firmino combinations and other ideas though.

McDonald won’t get many points, proper CDM enforcer. If you can spare the extra £0.5 Cairney could be seriously good value. Absolutely everything good we did last year went through him albeit from more of a deep lying playmaker position. Neves at £5m seems a steal, he’s top class.

Our Regulars League* for 2018/19 is now open and has a cash prize pool of £300 paid directly to the winners from the FF247 management team. The first 5 places are paid out in a tiered system.
To enter this one you need to be an active and recognised site member and you need to e-mail us for the league code – elleffcee@gmail.com
*terms and conditions apply and are available upon request. Management reserve the right to review membership of this league on an ongoing basis. If you enter and win a prize you have to have commented on the site at least 5 times for 8 consecutive months between August 2018 and March 2019 or you will not be considered for a prize. That’s basically 1 comment a week all season, we think that’s a reasonable ask to be considered a ‘regular’.
In your e-mail could you please supply:-
Your name.
Your site user name.
Your team name from last season and your new team name if it has changed, (all those that have recently joined the site, just your team name for this season).
For all the new regulars that have just joined, especially from FFFirst (welcome), we have a classic league (as above) and a set of H2H leagues also with promotion and relegation. You will have to be added to the lower leagues in H2H and work your way up as all the leagues are already set from last season. In the new year I start a Regulars cup, this is made up from the top 64 in the Regulars league, at a date yet to be set.

As an add on, we have a doubles league, current champions being those 2 cockney wide boys Del + Rodders, or Mitro + Pancho as they are known. You basically find a partner and run a team between you. It has to be a different team from your main teams. Keep in touch and run the team between you. Add names to the e-mail you send me.

Elle will include you in the leagues upon receipt of the application email. He will sort out who’s in what once all are applied I guess. It’s a promo / relegation thing so any new entrants obviously have to join the queue, so to speak. All just for fun though, doesn’t matter which you are in it’s just good to have another thing to play with people you’ll speak with regularly.

Indeed, we had the H2H at FFF too, great fun! (I was at the top tier of that since the beginning, I must add, never won it though, never got relegated either :woot: just wait as I make my way up there :dance: )

Back in FFF we had the H2H leagues like Premier, Championship, Division 1 atc. I stayed in the Championship for 6 seasons, never managed to move up but at least didn’t go down. Happy to start from the bottom.

In the Regulars League, is it not allowed to change one’s team name once it is set? I have no idea of my team name yet, but I’m in a ML every year in which we usually change our team names during the season for fun (it’s a bit of banter and so on)… I understand it would be a mess if everyone changed their team name all the time, but it I can’t change it I will have to try to figure out a great one for the whole season (and then risk getting dropped for a name change lol) :woot:

If you do just email Elle and tell him. He does a check every couple of months and shouts out any changes spotted. If he doesn’t get a response then he kicks them out! #ruthless

Yeah, you can join. If you do change your team name just let me know. In the H2H leagues we have 6 divisions, prem, championship, divs 1,2,3 and 4, all the leagues are full unless someone drops out, so I’ve made divs 5 + 6 so all newcomers will have to be out in them 2 leagues.

Thanks for all your speedy work on this today Elle.
For those who are new or have forgotten (Silvers) this our attempt to have our own league for site users so that you recognise everyone in there from a day to day basis. As opposed to the main FF247 League which will have 10,000 people because we tweet it and stuff and you’d be lucky to recognise anyone within a 100 spots of you.
As Elle says, it’s a bit of a trust thing that people don’t share the code as that ruins it for everyone. The flip side on that though is that we do check it and certainly if anyone suddenly pops up that we don’t recognise (you can see pending members on FPL weekly) then they get a warning to respond or they’re out.
We get a sponsor for the main FF247 league but deliberately don’t for this as we like to keep it more personal and pay it out as a bit of small thank you. The top 3 last season were Horse, Jamie Mc and myself. Point being, loads of banter towards the end. This is the one to win for FF247 site members as we are all here pretty much all the time and all season and all helping each other out. Until those last few weeks!

Looks good. If I’m nitpicking, which I am, my only small concern would be actually trying to fit all the subs in. If Mbappe, Lukaku and Coutinho all score well and one of Pavard or Fagner gets a CS I’m seeing snookers as to who to replace. Now of course the chances are all that doesn’t happen but obviously and ideally it does, given your picks. Long story short I think I’s replace Claesson with another Day 1 player. That could I guess compound the issue but I’d play the percentages on that I think. That’s if there is one.
Think I’ll be playing Max Cap this round myself.

Yes, certainly do. There could be errors in the first 19 gameweeks, simply because it took me 19 gameweeks to think of a more efficient way of doing it which also minimised the chance for human error.
The colour coding is certainly up for debate. I blame Init for finding it amusing not to tell me that we didn’t need all 38 weeks worth of fixtures doing so forgive me for losing my mind a bit with the colour coding!

Hi all,
This is my first contribution to the site, hopefully many more to come.
I used to use the fixture tracker in FFFirst, which had the great option to tick the teams you wanted to contrast their fixtures. This was very helpful for easily checking pairing rotations, for example for budget defenders or 4.5 keepers. Wonder if something similar would be possible to implement here?

Taking a short break from all the sweaty fun that is Legoland Florida to check in and say hi.
Loving the World Cup this year. One of the best i remember so far. Even starting to cheer on England, which is something with a hardcore Scottish upbringing I was never able to do in my younger years. Anyway…. hope everyone and their families are having a great summer and avoiding the crazy heat waves. It’s as if the planet is heating up or something.
Looking forward to another FPL season. Going to try and post regularly enough for Elleffcee to let me into his exclusive league.

Yes, my love for the game has been completely rekindled now that dithering old fool has been given the boot. I’m really looking forward to seeing what difference in performance we’ll get from largely the same squad. No idea on where we’ll finish but I’m not certain it needs to get any worse to get better. Screw it, we’ll win the league this season.
