Fantasy Football FF247 Team Game-week 37

42pts! 42 lousy points! That’s not bad you say? Well it could have been so much better, but we’ll get to that shortly. 42pts minus the 4pts for the hit we took last week left us bang on the average of 38pts and gave us another red arrow dropping us to 139,998. Our hopes of a top 100k finish have taken something of a knock in the last two game-weeks and this in turn has placed extra pressure on us as we enter the penultimate game-week of the season.
So where did those 42pts come from? As you can see we picked up 2pts from David de Gea but this really should have been 15pts from Karl! You probably won’t believe us but at approximately 8:30pm last Friday night a vote was held as to which of our keepers we would play and Darlow came out on top by three votes to two and yet we played de Gea! Imagine our surprise when we realised we’d left 15pts on the bench! An inquest has been held and we know who is to blame but Floydeth has decided the culprit shall remain nameless! At the back the star of the show was Nacho Monreal who picked up a clean sheet and maximum bonus points. In midfield our captain Alexis Sanchez was a massive flop. Our new additions last week had contrasting fortunes with Dimitri Payet picking up his 11th assist of the season while Cesc Fabregas blanked for the 27th time this season! Things didn’t get much better up top with Harry Kane the only one to register a return.

Transfer decision for GW37 – Sold – Mamadou Sakho, Joel Ward & Harry Kane; Bought – Chris Smalling, Patrick van Aanholt & Andy Carroll
GW37 and we’re set to take our first 8pt of the season. Now we realise for some of you an 8pt hit is as common as LvG saying something daft but for us it is unchartered territory. However, needs must. As things stood we only had five players for the double and if we’re to have any chance of finishing inside the top 100k we need to go for it.
On first glance it might seem stupid that two of the players involved in our 8pt hit are defenders but one is not going to play again this season and the other plays for Palace, so ditching the two of these was a no brainer particularly when the players we are replacing them play twice in GW37. Not only do United & Sunderland play twice but both have something to play for, albeit at opposite ends of the table. We realise United’s form away from Old Trafford isn’t great but surely they can pick up a clean sheet against Norwich?  Plus that leaves us with 2 Man United and 2 Arsenal in our back four next week when they play Bournemouth and Villa respectively. Capiche?! Anything gained from the game against West Ham is then a bonus. Unfortunately PvA hasn’t of late been quite as prolific in front of the opposition goal as he was back in January but Sunderland have of late discovered the art of defending and with home games against Chelsea & Everton we feel there’s a good chance PvA will justify his inclusion.

Given his recent form, six goals and an assist in his last six appearances, it was a unanimous decision to bring in Andy Carroll! Although we’re not alone as close to 60k other managers have done likewise this week. Great minds and all that. Once we’d decided on the big man we obviously had to decide as to whether it was Kane or Kun we would push out. Had Spurs still been battling for the league it would have been a difficult choice but with them having nothing left to play for it was an easy decision to keep Kun especially considering he has Swansea next week, sans their best defender in Ashley Williams.

Triple Captain – Andy Carroll
While it was a unanimous decision to bring in Carroll it was very much a split decision to captain him. When Payet picked up the first two votes he appeared to be a shoe in but big Andy came up on the rails to win the vote 3-2. However given his recent form the decision to make him captain is not that outrageous. Looking at his ownership levels of 6.8% he represents a significant differential and should he pick up returns in both games we are likely to see a massive rise in our rankings. Despite how much senses it’s starting to make it is still somewhat difficult to believe that we are triple captaining Andy Carroll!! Not quite where we imagined that particular chip would end up when they announced them back in July! He who dares…

Our Vice-captain is Dimitri Payet

Good luck for this week from the FF247 Team Committee.

Well now I’m hoping he doesn’t start against west ham either and I get Sanchez scoring a Hatty off the bench…. Wouldn’t care I almost took him out for Defoe last minute but thought he was a good differential on my ML… Bad start to this DGW
