New FPL Transfers Everton Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane

Hello and welcome to New FPL Transfers Everton Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane. Having covered Everton’s attacking transfers in the previous article we now make our way back to the defence and look at new keeper Jordan Pickford and central defender Michael Keane. Both are young (Pickfrd is 23, Keane 24) and Koeman will hope that both will serve the club for seasons to come – well, at least until the manager has hopped off to Barcelona anyway. It’s the trendy thing to say, but I make no apologies for repeating myself – ignore Everton until GW6 (unless you fancy a GW1 punt home to Burnley) – GW2-GW6 fixtures read Man City (a), Chelsea (a), Spurs (h), Man Utd (a). It’s ugly folks, but it changes for the better from GW6, which gives us time to assess and see if for example if Keane can establish himself as a regular starter alongside Ashley Williams or Phil Jagielka or if maybe Koeman plays all 3. Anyway, that’s all for the future, let’s take a quick look at Pickers and Keano.

Jordan Pickford
Goalkeeper
FPL Price 5.0mln

[/three_fifth]Pickford is of course well known to most FPL managers after his heroic season at Sunderland last season despite the Black Cats’ unsuccessful fight against relegation. There weren’t many clean sheets last term but Pickford impressed with his never-say-attitude and endless saves which contributed to decent returns for those managers who owned him. It was a busy summer for the young keeper who represented England U21s at the Euros as well as becoming England’s most expensive keeper when he sealed a £30mln move to the blue half of Merseyside. Pickford will be immediately installed as Koeman’s first choice keeper and is heavily tipped to become England’s no.1 sooner rather than later also. Pickford is a traditional northerner – tough, resolute and loves a battle, highlighted by the words of Sunderland’s goalkeeping coach Adrian Tucker: ‘I remember I went to Yeovil to do a scouting report on him. I was working for England Under-20s at the time and Jordan was playing for Bradford. The game was only five minutes in when a cross came in and he got clattered by one of Yeovil’s strikers. He got up straight away, shook it off and did not show he was hurt. I thought to myself, ‘You’ll do for me, son’.

Michael Keane
Defender
FPL Price 5.5mln

[/three_fifth]Keane signed for the Blues in a deal worth £25mln, arriving from Burnley where he spent two season after being released by Man United in 2015. The defender was a shining light at the back for Burnley last term, impressing many which resulted in him gaining two England caps. The Blues are reported to have fended off competition from several other clubs in purchasing Keane and the player identifies the manager himself as a big reason why he chose Everton: ‘the manager was a big factor in me coming to the club. He played in my position when he was a world-class player for a great Barcelona side and a great Dutch side and the style of football he likes to play will suit me, I believe. I watched a lot of Everton last season and I believe I really suit how the team likes to play. I feel like this is a great place to come and continue my development as a player. He’s convinced me that he can still improve me in certain areas of my game.’ Nothing like getting on the right side of the boss from day 1. Anyway you know the form, watch the first few fixtures, see how he settles in etc etc etc. Keane isn’t cheap at 5.5mln, especially as he only scored 7 goals in 100 games for Burnley, I feel he may just be a tad over priced at 5.5mln to be a value pick in FPL terms – Pickford is cheaper at 5.0mln as is Jagielka, while Mason Holgate and Jonjoe Kenny are even cheaper at 4.5mln, one of whom will probably deputise for the injured Seamus Coleman until the Irishman returns.

Would love to hear your thoughts on these 5 line-ups! I’ve got a back spine to my team and now I’m playing around with the variables.

Unmovable: David Luiz, Pogba, Alli, Lukaku, Rooney, Loftus-Cheek, Rangel

    Here are my variations –
Team 1: De Gea, Elliot, Ake Mustafi, Tomkins, Ramsey, Zaha, Lacazette

Team 2: Begovic, Foster, Kompany, Lindelof, Hunemeier, Ramsey, Coutinho, Firmino

Team 3: Courtois, Elliot, Kompany, Lindelof, Francis, Ramsey, Bernardo Silva, Firmino

Team 4: Courtois, Elliot, Trippier, Lindelof, Ake, Ramsey, Bernardo Silva, Firmino

Team 5: Begovic, Foster, Trippier, Lindelof, Mee, Pedro, Chamberlain, Jesus

    Which team would you pick?

I think Team 1 of those but they all have pros and cons.

You could have Salah for Ramsey in Team 1 if you swap Zaha for Townsend or one of the attacking midfielders from the newly promoted teams

      • IanDouglas says:

But Salah is 2.0m more than Ramsey and Townsend/Ritchie/etc are only 1.0m less than Townsend…

Interesting that the two of you both liked Team 1. That was my original team and then I’ve been experimenting… Lukaku is 1st name in my team (as a United fan and his fixtures). I reckon Lacazette will hit the ground running and effectively be a more prolific version of Defoe, so I’m keen to have him. Plus is nailed on to start. (Whereas I’m concerned Firmino and Jesus might get rotated/subbed more than Lacazette). I do like Firmino for the fact that Liverpool will no doubt be very good attacking this season. Firmino also frees up 2.0m to bolster my midfielder, AND he’s a cheaper option than Coutinho or Salah, even though he’ll probably be playing more advanced than both.

      • IanDouglas says:

Ok, how about this team if Gundogan is fit for the start of the season..?

        • Smash10 says:

That’s potentially better. Too much money in defence though. I agree on Firmino his position has basically ruled him out. A lot of people are going to be interested how Fity line up

        • IanDouglas says:

I hear what you’re saying about the defence. Here’s a team I’ve just been playing with where I cut back on the cost of the defence to boost the midfield. Depending on how pre-season goes, Pedro could alternate with Bernardo Silva and Zaha could alternate with Fabregas or Ramsey.

        • Smash10 says:

Think I prefer this one. Though instead of Ake and Cedric I’d stick Mustafi/Lindelhof in with a 4.5

        • IanDouglas says:

Have you seen Southampton’s fixtures though? If they keep hold of Van Dijk and Bertrand, then with Forster, I’d take Cedric as a decent 5.0m defender!

        • Smash10 says:

Lindelhof, Mustafi and Cedric. You have Courtois for Chelsea coverage anyway maybe

        • Smash10 says:

          Though I’m definitely having Trippier

        • IanDouglas says:

Ooh I do like that. Maybe Lindelof, Cedric and Trippier…

        • Kop Warrior says:

Smash, Trippier appears to be a great option at present but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Spurs buy another RB.

        • Smash10 says:

I’ve read somewhere they are looking for a back up for Trippier Kop

        • inittowinit says:

Hopefully, for Trippier’s sake (and ours), it is just that Smash. He deserves his shot at regular football.

    Hi,

I’m new to this site, but have been playing fantasy football for a few seasons. I’ve been playing with a squad and would like your thoughts. Part of me is happy with it, but another part is unsettled because of over-reliance on spurs and utd. I wouldn’t expect Zaha and Benteke to stay all season, but Palace’s start isn’t too bad.

      inittowinit says:

Hi Stray, looks fine so far, all a work in progress though isn’t it! Pennington won’t play so that’s an initial switch I’d make.

      • Smash10 says:

Too reliant on Palace, United and Spurs. If they start slowly you are in trouble. I know you can’t have coverage from everyone but you have no Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Southampton or Everton who are I guess 6 of the top 8 teams in the league

        • straygoat says:

I agree, although I fancy Southampton will nosedive this season and have a bit of a struggle. Everton could be hit and miss because of all the new players – big changes usually equals inconsistency.

      Hi Straygoat

      Welcome.

I am taking interest in Palace under de Boer and even just for the opening fixture, I would have some coverage.

You definitely need to keep an eye on how they’re shaping up over the summer to see who is looking most dangerous for them.

      • straygoat says:

Yeah, I think Palace have a decent threat so should be good for mid-level attacking players. All depends on whether they sink or swim under De Boer. If I’m going to drop anyone, Zaha and Benteke are the ones that could maybe be downgraded to release funds.

Draft 1001, Any thought on my current selection guys?

      Bmac87

That’s not bad at all mate. Good base.

Will you play 4 defenders most weeks or is this you trying to take advantage of Southampton and West Brom’s nice start to the season?

      • Bmac87 says:

        Thanks for the reply!

Plan is to play 343 most weeks with Ritchie replacing McAuley obviously fixture depending.

Bit of a gamble with Ritchie, I got him in when he came up with Bournemouth as he was also on set pieces and penalties then, but we all know how that season turned out for him, hoping for second time lucky!

What do you guys think..would it be wiser to start off the season by staying away from newly transferred players especially those who are new to EPL (Lacazette, Lindelof, Rudiger, Kolasinac, Silva…) ?
