Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 30

Well that was a bit more like it wasn’t it? Game-week 29 saw a wave of points flood our sorry assed fantasy teams and give us a much needed shot in the arm, or in the arse, whatever you prefer, and actually brought a smile or two from even the most disgusted of fantasy managers. Okay, so that might be a slight exaggeration. Some will still moan away despite having their best week in ages but that is a mark of how this season has gone. We’re on tenter hooks with it all and it wont take much for a toy or two to be hurled from the FPL pram. This week marks the beginning of the madness, that part of the season where the coveted DGW’s begin to pop up and also the dreaded BGW’s. This week, unfortunately, its the latter. Just the six games for us to manoeuvre then as Chelsea, Palace, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, Sunderland, Watford and West Ham all take a back seat and let the rest at it. Of course, this means big DGW’s further down the line but for now we’ve got to deal with this blank. There are still a few very favorable fixtures this weekend and this may well lead to it being a pretty high scoring round despite the absentees. Right, lets see what we’ve got left then as the struggle for respectability continues…

The Tracker…
We have rated each teams fixtures on a sliding scale. Remember that this is just our opinion and you may feel differently but if nothing else it gives you a nice easy visual aid as to each teams upcoming games..

FAVOURABLE FIXTURES

Manchester City – Norwich (A), Manchester United (H), Bournemouth (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Their title hopes may lay in ruins, but City haven’t given up the fight just yet. Okay, so last weekends big win was against a shambolic and quickly sinking Aston Villa, who just about everyone should be trouncing at this stage of the season, but at the very least it showed us fantasy managers what we needed to see; some decent bloody points from the blue half of Manchester! It took a while for them to get going but every bakery in Manchester must have been on red-alert when beanpole midfielder Yaya Toure opened the scoring, and indeed the floodgates, with an Aguero brace and a rare goal from Raheem Sterling all coming in the eighteen succeeding minutes. A predictable, but necessary battering really. Now a full ten points behind league leaders Leicester, albeit with a game in hand, City must keep the points coming in and over the next few weeks they’ve got a great chance to secure much needed wins as the level of opposition is a long way below their own. All three featured teams this week must be dreading dealing with the back in form Aguero, none more so than this lot…

..Norwich, of all teams. Oh dear. Dreadful times at Carrow Road these days and this is just about the worst fixture they could get at the minute. Being routed to the bottom of the form table in a league that boasts drivel such as Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland, says everything we need to know about this team. Fifty-four goals conceded thus far and with the ever useless Cameron Jerome up front, there’s just no hope, that we can see at least, for Norwich in this one. Away win, and a big one at that. Next up it’s a United fans nightmare and a City fans wet dream. It’s almost impossible to predict a United result from week to week, such is the consistency of their inconsistency, but one thing is for sure; rolling up to the Etihad to face City is a stretch too far for this fragile team. Unless young Rashford manages to bag himself four goals then we can’t see United getting anything from this game and they may well be totally mullered, again. So, in a nutshell, Rashford wont score a heap and City probably will. Moving swiftly on to the third and last City fixture we’ll cover this week. Bournemouth are the opposition this time and they’ve been doing really well lately in fairness to them. Three wins and a draw from the last six is about as good as can be expected for the Cherries as they battle their way to what they hope will be safety come season end. Given their current form, they might actually give City the toughest game of these three teams, but in the end City should be coming out on top more often than not, although a repeat of the 5-1 thrashing back in October seems a tad unlikely.

Tottenham Hotspur – Aston Villa (A), Bournemouth (H), Liverpool (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Just the five points separate Pochettino’s Spurs from the summit of the Premier League but everyone at the club must be cursing themselves for letting the result slip against neighbouring Arsenal last weekend. A late, and long time coming, strike from Alexis Sanchez broke the hearts of the Lilywhites having come back from a goal down to take a narrow lead, with strikes form Toby Alderweireld and star striker Harry Kane. The latter may still be feeling the effects of a broken snout picked up recently, but it didn’t stop him from putting away what is surely one of the goals of the season to date. An entertaining North London Derby then, nothing new there! There may be no stopping Leicester this season as they march toward greatness, but if anyone is going to stop them, Spurs have as good a chance as the next team. With just the four defeats so far and boasting the tightest defence in the league to date, Poch’s army look poised to take full advantage of what is a very soft schedule over the next few weeks, with no hopers, strugglers and a long sleeping giant being the only obstacles. Seven points is the minimum requirement from these games, anything less and their best chance to win the Premier League trophy to date may have all but slipped away. Surely the full six points from these first two though…

..The dreadfulness that is Crapston Villa. Fresh of a serious paddling by City and primed for another one this weekend, the end is near for this sorry bunch. Villa have become part of the furniture in the Premier League down the years, constantly yoyoing between solid and woeful sides but always managing to keep their necks above water. It’s been a good run, it really has, but every top flight team now sees them as easy work and rightfully so, easy away win here. It’s not that long ago that this next lot were in the same boat as Villa; the one with all the holes in it and a potato sack as a sail! They have however, as mentioned in the previous section, fairly gotten their act together and put some much needed results together in recent weeks, opening an eleven point gap on the drop zone, which is a very nice buffer for any team battling away down there, and especially one with such a dreadful run of fixtures yet to play out, starting with Spurs in game-week thirty-one. This may well prove to be a highly entertaining watch for the neutral and we’re putting our money of the home side to nick it. Now, where do we begin with this lot. As unpredictable as United, Liverpool are at least having a good go under Klopp’s guidance and this should be another very entertaining game. How to call it is uncertain but with the Scouse defence being so porous, and their attack picking up the pace as the weeks go by, there’s definitely points to be had in this one although maybe not via defensive players. Unless it’s Toby, the bastard! Ahem, sorry about that, just slipped out.

Leicester City – Newcastle (H), Crystal Palace (A), Southampton (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Another week, another win and another front row seat for the Mahrez masterclass. With the North London Derby finishing a stalemate and City turning the screw on Villa, the pressure was on the Foxes and they duly delivered, as usual, but by the narrowest of margins. It’s still a bit hard to believe that this team, who were on their way out of the league last season, could be anywhere near the top four for the title run in, let alone be five points clear! Amazing stuff and we’re sure most, if not all of you are behind the Foxes as they attempt to achieve the impossible, or at least what was previously thought as such. These next four or five weeks could decide it all and the Foxes certainly have the favorable games needed to rack up enough points to put them out of sight before the final, more difficult fixtures set in. Of our featured games this week, just one of the three should pose any threat to Leicester, and even they could very easily struggle against a well organised defence and a dangerous, if not as potent as before attack. So just the one “threat” then, safe to say it isn’t this lot anyway…

..We give you, Newcastle. The club who’s fans expect so much yet receive so little. Toon are on a dreadful run of form in recent weeks, just dreadful. One win from six and the rest losses, including a 1-3 home defeat last time out to Bournemouth, suggests that Steve McLaren, the man with the dumbest answers to the simplest of questions, just isn’t cut out for life in the top flight. Poor old fart looks to have aged by 20 years in the last six months and he’ll be worse off after Leicester rip them up for ninety minutes, with FPL managers the world over throwing their capo armbands at Mahrez and Vardy like old ladies at a Tom Jones concert. Palace are next up in what should be another breeze really as they have managed to place themselves lower than Villa AND Newcastle in the form table, a feat that only Norwich can better. Conceding an average of two a game over the last six weeks is just what Claudio will want to hear and we just cant see the Eagles landing anywhere other than flat on their faces in this one. Now, the supposed more difficult encounter we were banging on about; Southampton. Galvanised by defensive reinforcements in recent months, the Saints were flying high until recent weeks when a defeat to Chelsea seems to have knocked them out of their rhythm. A loss to Bournemouth followed and last weekend we seen the disgraceful 1-1 at home to Sunderland. Have the wheels come off again? Who knows, but with inconsistency creeping back in, Leicester should be chomping at the bit to get stuck into this lot. It might not be a goal glut type but we’re all over Leicester in this one. Nothing new there.

Swansea City – Bournemouth (A), Aston Villa (H), Stoke (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]

[/three_fourth]Now eight points ahead of Sunderland and nine clear of the drop zone, it does seem like Swansea have managed to drag themselves to a position of relative safety. They are without doubt a better team than the four below them but for a while there it looked as though the Swans were going to get dragged into a mess they really shouldn’t be in. But, alas, a new manager and few decent results is all it took and although their league position is still atrocious, they do at least have that cushion now. The narrow victory last weekend against strugglers Norwich was a bit more of a nail biter than hoped for but the old reliable Gylfi Sigurdsson secured the points once again, netting his sixth goal in the last ten weeks, further underlining the Iceman’s importance to the team. A trio of winnable games lie ahead for Guidolin’s men, with five points surely to be considered a positive outcome, assuming one of the teams below doesn’t put a small run together (feel free to pause while laughing at that last comment; like as if one of that lot are going to put a “run” together!!). Right, that’s enough waffle, lets get down to some fixture fun before we move on to those that ain’t looking too good for future weeks…

A recurring theme this week it seems, we’ve got Bournemouth again! These things happen when working with a limited selection of teams like we are this week, so bear with us for the time being. This is actually a hard game to call but what is certain is that both teams will be coming to win, and both are capable of winning. Those who have opted for the aforementioned Siggy or new striker Alberto Paloschi could well be repayed with attacking returns this weekend. Differential captain pick alert!!!! We’ve got Villa again, and this time they will be one hammering further down the line having been dealt with by Spurs, which we’ve already been through. Same old same old here really, no chance for the away side and a potential haul or two for Swansea’s attackers and a great chance to pick up what seems like extremely rare clean sheets these days. We’d fancy four points at least from those two games which would all but seal league safety considering what’s below Swansea, so, if this happens, might the shackles be off when Swansea travel to the Brittania? Maybe, maybe not, but it is another game where we can expect to see attacking returns as the Potters have kept just two clean sheets in the last ten league matches, which includes conceding to Villa as recent as game-week twenty-seven.

BE WARY OF

Everton – BLANK, Arsenal (H), Manchester United (A)

Given the week that it is, it will come as no surprise that BE WARY OF is, for the most part, those teams with a blank this weekend followed by harsh games, the first of which is Everton. The Toffees are set for a trip to London after their short break from league action, for a dread inducing encounter with Arsenal. The London outfit have on so many occasions battered Everton down the years and judging by their current defensive frailties, Stones and co. may well get tanked in this one. The second and last game to cover is an away day at Manchester United. Now, this isn’t exactly what we’d call a brutal fixture for Everton but they’ll probably make a meal of it at least and may end up losing it. Traditionally a frantic affair, something tells us that this edition may be a touch more on the flat side.

[divider_1px]

Crystal Palace – BLANK, Leicester (H), West Ham (A)

Palace sit out this weekend too, as we all know, and rumour has it they’ve asked for an extension to the break in a effort to put their next league match on the back burner for a bit. When your defence is struggling badly each and every week and the best striker you’ve got is one Connor Wickham, a meeting with Leicester bears all the marks of a monumental battering. The fact that it’s at home is about the only real positive we can see here but it shouldn’t help the odds. Away win all the way. Hmmm, no, this just isn’t what the doctor ordered at all, at all. A meeting with Villa would do the trick after being gone in on by Leicester but unfortunately for Lord Pardew, it’s a trip to Boleyn that awaits. Hard to see any sort of result here for Palace other than a loss of course but at least Pard’s can revisit some old friends at the……… Hang on a minute…Pardew?..friends?..where on earth was that going? Lets leave it at that shall we.

[divider_1px]

Manchester United – BLANK, Manchester City (A), Everton (H)

United fans will be wishing every week was a blank week soon enough. The short break from league action is brought to a stuttering halt by what is one of the biggest games of the season in England; The Manchester Derby. For years United had the edge in this fixture but as time goes by City are pulling further and further away in terms of quality. Incredibly, United maintain a good record against their noisy neighbours with four wins from the last six meetings but something tells us that it’s not going to go well this time. Losing to the likes of West Brom and Sunderland in recent weeks just doesn’t bode well. We’ve been through this Everton one already so not much to dwell on here other than the fact that this could go either way as both teams are capable of throwing away results at will – hard to favour either, so we may as well slate both!

Hello Pancho and NIN..the time difference is the culprit here..i was thinking that why are we all planning to get players from spurs(kane and erikson), siggy, etc when they dont even have a double week? Suppose we play our wildcard(if any) on gw33, and further select all the dgw players for gw34, then what would the plans for gw37 be where i guess we’ll have more double games..should we not start preparing for gw34 from now on and keep players like lukaku, payet who sure are going be a part of both the doubles?

i have 0.9m in the bank and no FT left. Since i dont have 11 players for the gw 30, so thinking of transfering coutinho out. But I am confused between eriksen and yaya.

Any suggestion regarding starting XI, team and cap would be very much appreciated

      NIN says:

Morning hochoki. I would go for Mr Eriksen before the one who loves the cake. He has been in solid form for a while now and the set-piece duty is a big plus point as we all know.

    Neo says:

Hey guys, really appreciate the advice for the past few weeks as I have cut the lead of my leader from 60 to just 27! And he stands to have 3 blanks this GW!

    I have 1m ITB and 1 FT. Should I

    i) Sanchez to Silva
    ii) Payet to Yaya
    iii) Fonte to Kompany

I’m thinking of doing Payet to Yaya because it keeps an Arsenal player in my team. If I were to do Sanchez to Silva, then I would probably be bringing in Ozil back for Payet the following week, thus wasting 1 transfer. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

      NIN says:

Morning Neo. I would do the Bellerin move myself. That way you keep Arsenal attack and don’t lose a Dgw player as Vinny will have one too. 27 points is nothing and if all goes wel you may even close that out this week

    PeterPan says:

    Morning folks.
A little repost but changing my questions.
Safe move if lukaku to Kane?
Then… who would I bladdy captain?!

    • 41.1
      NIN says:

Yep, Kane all the way. He’s a solid capo shout this week but, for me, it’s Aguero. City will be well rested up, a rest they needed, too. Norwich: lambs to the slaughter.

    Thanks NIN,
Always appreciated mate and always very helpful.
Could you (or anyone) take a look at my team and maybe give me some options.
I have 1FT and all chips with 1.7 in the kitty.
I’ve been closing the gap in my ML and think the team above me will struggle this week.
    Thanks.
