The Boot Room – Rate My Team GW 8 – FPL Fantasy Football Premier League

Photo-02-01-2014-11-40-06-300x214Whether your arrows were a happy green or a more depressing red, we get to sit on our thumbs for a while as the internationals take precedence. We get to sit back, relax and enjoy watching our valuable FPL assets get flogged to death in meaningless qualifiers and even more meaningless friendlies having flown half way around the world for the pleasure. Now what could possibly go wrong?! However, there is plenty to think about and plan for. We will be back with the usual raft of articles next week ahead of GW8 but in the meantime we encourage you to plan ahead and post your teams and questions in the chat below. You can either go old school and type it out or you can post a picture of it along with the issues or transfers which you are pondering. Either way you are sure to get plenty of answers from our great community. As usual though if you don’t have any pressing team issues you can simply post your thoughts and feelings on any subject you wish. Within reason anyway!

Good to go or Wildcard it? Bench is looking nearly as ropey as the defence and I’m already on a -4 courtesy of Sanchez.

Looks good from the waist up! I’m not sure it needs a WC in the middle or up top but maybe at the back it needs it.. but it seems a shame to use it just to change your defense!

      Neo says:

Hmm I would have wildcarded if you hadn’t taken the hit but I think you can stick with this for the coming GW… Maybe hang around for 2-3 games more and WC to bring in KDB and more Pool coverage for their excellent run of games

      • inittowinit says:

Thanks Neo. The WC cancels any hit so that’s fine. I was kind of hoping to do pretty much what you suggested with KdB very much in mind. That said Red makes a powerful case for actually doing it as per below.

Good morning init. I think you could probably get by without a WC, but I’d consider the points you’ll potentially be losing each week by waiting. I think if it were me I’d get that -4 back and hit the button. De Gea has Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal on the horizon so you could get a more budget friendly option in goal, get an Arsenal/Spurs defender, and maybe upgrade Ramirez so you don’t need to use Capoue as a 4th midfielder. It’s a tough call as you say, but I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago with a team that didn’t really NEED a WC and decided to do it to get in some form players and clean things up. It paid off well with 64 and 72 points since and I’m happy I did it. Best of luck whatever you decide!

      Cookie says:

Hit that button Init, time to get that rank back up to where it should be otherwise you could easy be chasing another 200k places with that defence.

Your whole bench is rubbish bar Baines, who is injured. Amat should be on that bench, not the pitch, esp facing Arsenal. DDG can become Lloris or a cheaper and you can get a Gooner in there and tidy the whole thing up.

      • inittowinit says:

Exactly my thoughts. The squad is looking thin which narrows the options each week and fixing the defence up could be an invaluable source of points and not doing so could mean a real struggle week to week.

      constantine says:

initt..I won’t play Amat against Sanchez/Walcott.. Fancy AOA..it looks apt for you next week.

      inittowinit says:

Thank you for the quality feedback. I can’t see the wood for the trees when looking at my own team at times, always an odd phenomenon as I have no such issue looking at others and seeing the obvious path!

Anyway, not decided on the WC yet but had a good play around and come up with 2. One is an obvious 3-5-2, the other a 3-4-3. Any thoughts appreciated please. Suggestions as to tweaks on either?

        • inittowinit says:

I’d play double Spurs defence here most weeks and rotate the other 3 accordingly.

        • inittowinit says:

          :green-flag: :SOS: laugh

        • Matt says:

Morning Init. Only seeing your sos call from last night now aswell. I prefer the 3-4-3 to be honest not 100% sold on the 352 team. Only change I would suggest is Collins out to maybe Holebas but the triple Watford could be unappealing.

        • Cookie says:

Can you and Mitro just not sort each other out!?!?

3-4-3 for me mate without doubt.

        • inittowinit says:

What’s wrong with the 3-5-2 effort specifically? I actually prefer it for overall balance. In particular the defence. I don’t usually play that formation and given an extra £5m it’d be a different story but…

        • I like 3-5-2, I play it most weeks. There is a bigger choice of cheap 5th mids then there is cheap good strikers IMO. Around 7mil for strikers is the threshold of where they start getting good, where as for MF there is some pretty decent options for under 7. Chadli, Capoue, Snodgrass, and others I cant remember. And they seem to lap up BP compared to strikers, more passing and tackling I guess (IE more overall touches)

        • inittowinit says:

Thank you, whoever you are 😉

So which of the 2 squads do you prefer? Or should I just not bother and stick with the original?

        • Probably the 3-4-3 in this case but your defence is pretty ropey.
Grant as a 4.0 keeper might not be a bad shout, Stoke have been woeful defending but since Grant has been starting they have improved considerably. Still conceeding 1 a game or something but I think they will get their first clean sheet soon. I am going to play him over Foster for the next few weeks and see how that goes cause Foster hasnt really been getting many points recently.
Southampton defence is a pretty good shout IMO they have had quite a few CS recently. A cheaper alternative to Arsenal or Spurs.
I would just play around a bit more

        • I dont really like rating teams much TBH, because for me I think it comes down to personal repference alot and I just try mould evewryone elses team into mine haha I’m very narrow minded. laugh

        • Cookie says:

Init, there is nothing specifically wrong with the 3-5-2 apart from a traditional preference in 3 playing strikers, which I believe you also prefer and If you want to revert back to that in a few weeks how easy is that going to be?

        • inittowinit says:

Cookie I’m not much fussed either way. It’s a cheap 3rd striker who I won’t play instead of having Lukaku (if fit) versus a semi decent 5th mid plus a better defence. The overall balance on the 3-5-2 appeals to me more right now.

      • Mitro says:

Init – based on the screenshots you have provided I would be going with the 3-4-3!

No way to get in son for Fer on the 3-4-3?

If you do WC, what is your plan for KDB?

      inittowinit says:

Don’t mean to turn this post into a personal RMT as I’ve had more answers than one could ever wish for but I’ve still not got a consensus. At least not one I like anyway smile

      Quick poll –

      A. Keep as is
      B. WC and 3/4/3
      C. WC and 3/5/2

All the options are above in pic form.

      Thanks in advance!

    Rosco77 says:

Won’t be making any changes till next but presuming all my injuries clear up what looks better..

    1. Antonio – Son
    2. Antonio – someone else
    3. Dio – Someone
    4. Williams – A better clean sheet prospect
    5. McCauley – as above
    6. Jako – to a playing keeper
    7. Save it

    • 2.1
      inittowinit says:

Antonio to Son works for me. Or Dio to Deeney. You have so many good options! Just depends if you’re happy to go forth with a 3-5-2 which relies on Capoue as the 5th I suppose.

    • 2.2
      Neo says:

Diomande to Deeney/Wilson seems the most reasonable for me as there are reports that Lallana might miss the United game, you can play Capoue in a 3-4-3 then.

You can address your defence in the subsequent weeks I guess, it’s not THAT urgent yet for me

    • 2.3
      RedVT says:

+1 on init and Neo’s advice Roscoe. With Capoue as part of your 5 man midfield it’s really not a powerhouse 3-5-2. I’d look to upgrade Dio as well so you can play a 3-4-3 with Capoue as 1st sub. I don’t think Capoue is going to continue his crazy points haul, there’s really no way any player could keep up the conversion rate of 5 total shots and 4 goals! He’s a great 1st sub and an option some weeks but not someone I’d want to start every week long term. Another option if you really like the 3-5-2 formation would be to cash in on Capoue and get someone like Snodgrass in for him. Snodgrass is about to go on a sweet run of fixtures and I think he’ll be in the points more than Capoue when all is said and done. Good luck!

    AllanBrallan says:

Here it is. The team that scored 20 points last GW!!!!

1FT and 0,0 itb. Probably won’t do anything and have 2ft next week unless there is a comfirmed injury or if someone has a better sugestion….

    • 3.1
      Neo says:

Do you happen to have a WC buddy? I would get rid of Foster soon due to the crazy run of fixtures and Jaku doesn’t play! Collins WHam are in defensive shambles right now and you’re pretty unlikely with Lallana and Sterling being injury concerns…

To be fair you can’t do much if you have 1 FT and 0 ITB but you can possibly think of downgrading Ibra to maybe LKK (I rate him but he’s the one to go in you need resources in this team) so that you can more funds to upgrade the defence and perhaps Lallana to one of the other 3

Overall, I think you are good to go for this week and hopefully you are lucky with the injuries. Your priority now is to get transfers to sort out the back and so I would hold your FT for this week and hope for the best

    Neo says:

Anyway sorry that I haven’t been around to help out much as I’ve been busy with school but I’ll pop by as much as I can!

What do you guys reckon about this? I’m tempted by the likes of Son but I think the most sensible thing to do now is to use my 2 FT and 0 ITB: Ozil and Sterling for Sanchez and Snodgrass + (should I take a -4 for Antonio to Son? Don’t think it makes sense)

It frees up funds for my defence in the subsequent weeks and personally my priority is to get Ozil the hell out of my squad and to get Sanchez in

    • 4.1
      RedVT says:

Hi Neo. I like those moves and think Sanchez is essential, I also really like Snodgrass and have him in my team as my 4th midfielder. The only thing I might consider is the points potential of Mane vs Sterling. To be honest, I think Sterling may score as well as Mane or possibly even better, as Liverpool share the points around so much. I do like the double LIverpool mids as it increases your chances of being in the points and they have a nice run of fixtures coming up, so I guess it could go either way. Sorry that’s not too definitive, just throwing it out there to consider. Best of luck whatever you decide!

      • Neo says:

Thanks Red, great to hear your input especially when you’ve got a pretty good track record yourself! I’ll probably go for Sanchez and Snodgrass next wekk!

You have a great point about Mane vs Sterling and I’ll KIV that, though I’ll probably keep 2 Liverpool players as that’s my ‘differentiating’ tactic for now 😉

        • RedVT says:

Thanks for the kind words Neo. As a Liverpool supporter I hope you’re right and Mane scores and assists like mad. Preferably assisting Firmino if possible who I have, ha! smile

Don’tknow what to do with this team? Get Son or do any other thing? Idk :/

    • 5.1
      Neo says:

You have a balanced squad to be fair, only thing I can see changing is if you lose Ibra to LKK/Costa and upgrade on one of your midfielders but I personally think that you’re in quite good shape! Cathcart to Holebas perhaps and lose McAuley soon!

      • Snookie Bear says:

Yeah but no one standing out for replacement of McAuley. I am going to keep Ibra I think. Jacku to Pickford and save the ft?

        • Neo says:

Maybe Jaku to Grant to bank the 0.1 profit and he has some nice fixtures coming up as well. As for McAu’s replacement, I would go for Lovren as I feel that Liverpool are considerably tight besides set piece defending (since you have the 0.1), otherwise you can consider Adam Smith from Bournemouth as they have pretty ok games coming up

    abhirup780 says:

Is there a fine tune needed for this WC team? I have a very poor squad value as I haven’t taken a single hit this season. Just 0.2 ITB. Any changes you guys suggest?

    • 6.1
      Neo says:

I love this WC team abhirup but just remember that Costa is on 4 YC already!

    • 6.2
      constantine says:

abhirup..team looks good to go fir next week. save your FT, if you still have it..

    • 6.3
      RedVT says:

Hi abhirup. I think you can get away with super budget keepers for save points and I have done the same. But in doing so I’d want another premium defender in that back line. I’d consider changing Costa on 4 yellows to Lukaku or someone else with form/fixtures if that allows you to get Walker or someone similar.

Costa has been doing well but he’s 10.1 currently and requires at least a goal and an assist to get bonus points, so grabbing a single goal usually means just 6 points, or 5 with his customary yellow card. That’s not great value for 10.1 in my opinion. Just a thought, overall a very nice looking WC team. Good luck!

    • 6.4
      Rids says:

I totally agree with RedVT. I couldn’t live with your defence as it is. You ideally need another premium defender.
