Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 22 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16
It’s time to get up, dust yourselves down and get back on that broken pony already after what was probably another dismal game-week for the good majority. Many a dormant fantasy manager will (not) be celebrating this morning as they find that their long term plan of not actually doing anything yielded a handy captain haul of 32 from Rooney whereas those slightly more proactive managers are once again left wondering why they even bothered! No point moping around in your underpants cursing Kun though as we have another game-week incoming on Saturday and it’s a quick-fire chance to right the wrongs of the last one, if that’s possible. Let’s take a look at the runners and riders for that all important armband for game-week 22…[clear]
Sergio Aguero – Crystal Palace (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Allow me to get the formalities of this article out of the way. Sergio Kun Aguero plays at home this weekend. For many FPL managers that’s all they need to know. I’m sure he’ll be an overwhelmingly popular pick… so let’s take a look at why it might *not* be a good idea to trust him with the armband.
Since his first big injury of the season, he’s featured (and started) in 6 matches, playing 428 minutes in all. During those minutes he’s managed to score 2 goals. No assists to his name. City failed to score at home against Everton earlier this week and Palace can actually be quite a tough team to break down. Perhaps a punt on Kolarov, who was rested against Everton, would be a better shout? Crystal Palace have failed to score in their last 4 Premier League matches.
We all know that Aguero’s capable of insane things. City are due a rout and, when playing at the Etihad, anything is possible… even 5 goals in 20 minutes. An early penalty being awarded to the home side – a tap-in from De Bruyne’s pinpoint cross into the 6 yard box – that’s all it could take for absolute carnage to ensue. Look beyond him at your peril.

Dimitri Payet – Newcastle (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Don’t you wish that you’d owned this guy last game-week? If you did… don’t you wish that you’d captained him? If you did.. please come and write the next article for us!
The guy is class. What a free-kick against Bournemouth that was. Brilliant nutmeg and run at goal for the assist as well. He plays against a Newcastle side that, although admittedly growing in confidence, haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 7 matches in all competitions. Dmitri bagged a brace in the reverse fixture this season and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see him do it again on Saturday afternoon.

Harry Kane – Sunderland (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Just when the wind seemed to be blowing again, the HurriKane has faltered, once again entering a mini drought in front of goal; just a solitary assist in the last 3 game-weeks. However, before that, he scored 3 goals in 2 games. That included a brace against Norwich at home. He’s also scored twice against West Ham at White Hart Lane and hit home a hat-trick against Bournemouth earlier on in the season.
Therefore, it is clear Kane likes a relatively ‘easy fixture’ to harvest his FPL points, which Sunderland at home does indeed appear to be. The Black Cats haven’t been pushovers lately, but when you consider that Harry has taken the joint-most shots in the Premier League so far this season (tied with Coutinho) and has the highest shot accuracy out of anyone in the top 10 on that list, backing him with the armband this weekend sounds very tempting indeed. Stats and logic often (but not in this crazy season!) prevail.

Riyad Mahrez – Aston Villa (A)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Mahrez is actually quite a weird name isn’t it? We’ve become so accustomed to seeing it in all of our teams, but the more I think about it, the stranger it sounds. Riyad Mahrez. I take that back… it’s actually just cool. Almost villain-like… mwuahahaha.
Anyway, what a player, who time and time again has produced goals and assists to help lift his team to success. Earlier this season, in the reverse fixture, he didn’t score in the 3-2 thriller, but conducted the game magnificently, contributing 2 assists in one of many man-of-the match performances that he’s produced in recent months.
Villa finally pieced a win together last game-week, but it was against a Crystal Palace side who are currently woeful in front of goal, which still doesn’t explain what Hennessey was thinking as that ball came towards him. The question is: can Mahrez end his 4 match drought? Can he strike back with another hat-trick away from home? Can he be the Villans’ villain? I really don’t see why not. Leicester are back to winning ways.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – Watford (H)
[three_fourth padding=”0 20px 0 0″]
[/three_fourth]Here’s one we haven’t heard much about for a while! This is my final pick and I was getting a bit bored of picking the usual suspects… then I noticed that Watford have conceded 2 goals in each of their last 4 Premier League matches. So this is one for the brave or the stupid, but let’s face it, this season couldn’t really get any stranger.
Just cast your mind back to the first 10 gameweeks of last season: no serious FPL manager would’ve dreamt of excluding Siggy from their teams. Now, over a year on, things have changed. Leicester are a good team these days. Matic isn’t the best CDM in the world anymore. FF247 t-shirts have spread across the land. However, good-old Gylfi has grabbed a goal in his last two matches and is on penalty duty too, so perhaps this is the start of something good once again for the classy Swansea midfielder.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Good luck with whoever you choose.

Hello fellow managers. After a very weird week of scraping 34pts I’m contemplating using my AOA chip this GW, the reason being that i want both Mahrez and Vardy in the Villa game. Do i go ahead? i have 1FT and £0.1 in the bank. Do i save my FT? I was also thinking it’s time to ship Darmian out. His time has come. What you all think? Armband tentatively on Kun. So much trust in Kun has resulted in disappointment and frustration. I know he will come good but when?
Who knows man. It does look good for that I’d say.
I don’t see why not, could be a great shout. I keep forgetting about the chips…..
I think now is the best time for me to use it. It all depends on the fixtures for the week. The defenders on the bench have tough games as well so minimum clean sheet potential in addition to a strong 5th mid (Alli vs SUN) plus i want Vardy to play as well. Its all the ingredients for an All out attack for me.
Eagle
I like and completely agree with your reasoning. I would do it.
Good luck mate.
Hey guys , thanks for the article much appreciated as always.
Aguero for me i think or KDB. Can’t believe people are shipping KDB out with Palace at home this week who just lost to bottom of the league villa….
Any advice on my team would be much appreciated had an awful week but by reading through the comments it seems so did everyone.
1 free transfer and 0.8 in bank, thanks.
Fulltime – I would play Simpson over Moreno. Leicester have tightened up at the back now with 3 consecutive clean sheets and Villa barely score goals. Man utd. have been scoring recently now so i can see them scoring vs Liverpool.
Thanks eagle,
Seen that as soon as i posted think that’s a definite swap. What about transfers? thinking maybe getting rid of Moreno what you think?
Actually after the United game he has Norwich(A) Leicester (A) Sunderland (H) Villa (A). I would keep him and bench him for the Leisester game probably. His fixtures aren’t that bad. I would say keep the FT and monitor Moreno. You already have Kun and Payet which people are looking to get.
Full time
I would remove Moreno but no rush to do it this week. Play Simpson and save FT.
Thanks both.
Save FT it is then….
Moreno will probably drop in price tonight and definitely before kick off.
Thanks Kruz,
I won’t lose money on him so will keep him for now. I will lose money on KDB mind you but not willing to drop him just yet….
Thanks again
I all, great piece of a capo’s article james mate. Any of those should come good, meaning we will see some other bugger do a Defoe on us.
Anyway, my team looked good last week and did perform 1.9 per player. Add 11 from payet and I got to stunning 30 pts! This In a week my money league leader made +60 with People like Ayew , Tadic and wait for it … Lescott!!! Good thing the bugger capoed Bojan!! You get the picture…
For this next gw my team also looks good which is expectable given that everyone repeats their home/away status. In Portuguese there’s a saying that In English would go “if it’s shit, the more you touch it, the worst it will smell”; só, with that piece of poetry – be free to copy cookster mate – I will not touch it, not even the armband (Kun). Have fun.
Excellent DMC
Anybody checkout the high scorer this week?! 130! Played bench boost with Defoe, PVA and Huth!! And Rooney captain, Giroud, Azpi, Sagna, etc etc. Crazy game.
WTF! Sometimes i think luck plays a part as well. well played though hats off to him.
What ranking is he at?
That’s the crazy part – def not a ghost team. Went from like 1 million to 236k. But who thinks Defoe, PVA & Huth are perfect bench boost candidates?!
Fair play to him/her… he must be buzzing! Have you played any of your chips yet? I’m saving mine but don’t know for when!
Fulltime – no chips played yet. Guess I’m waiting for DGWs. My squad has been crap for most of the season so haven’t even contemplated them yet!
RMT!
1.6 in the bank and 2FT
I’m thinking of getting payet and simpson for drinkwater and kolarov and then playing the AOA chip having front 8 as follows
KdB/Ramsey/Ozil/Mahrez/Payet
Ighalo/Kane/Lukaku
Should i go ahead with these tranfers? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Hey KP – like those moves. Not sure they warrant the AOA chip though. I’m in the same boat if I bring in Kane this week, and I’m contemplating benching Ozil! Madness right?! Up to you in the end…
KP
Like the sound of those moves : thumbup:
Strong front eight so maybe look at fixtures further down the line to see if there is a better week. That’ll be your answer probably.
Got Payet and Cresswell for Arnautovic and Smalling (-4), enough of this shit season so just did it :/
Now who would you bench? Kdb or Lukaku seem to be bench material this week, suggestions please
Snookie
Brought both Payet and Cresswell in on my wildcard last week so I like those moves.
I would bench Lukaku I think. It’s tight though.
