Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 24 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 The good folks here at FF247 have asked me to return once more, prior to the start of the MLS season, to give you my picks for captaincy here in GW24. And I have mixed feelings about taking on the column this week. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the space to write — it’s just that I’m doubting myself now after my disastrous cappo last week. In GW23, I had Aguero and Lukaku to choose from as my captain selection. Even though every fiber* of my being told me that Aguero would be the sensible pick to keep pace with the herd, I let my heart take over and I capped Lukaku instead. Was I trying to get too cute with my pick? Maybe. Was I trying to prove that when the chips are down, I’ll pick my beloved Ever...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 23 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 A belated Happy New Year people! Hopefully the start of a steady climb into the upper percentiles for those of us further down the pecking order, and for those of you already there, well you hardly need my help do you?! Leicester are on level points at the top of the league more than halfway through the season, which is incredible in itself. Almost all of us surely want to see them go all the way now; seeing Lineker in his undies will just be a bonus extra. At the other end of the table things are looking no better for Villa, who currently sit 6 points adrift of 19th place..! This isn’t news to any of us I know, but it’s still amazing to see it written down. Bookmark this though: they will not go...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 21 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Hello ladies and gents, and welcome to the Captain Picks for GW 21! This game-week sees several of the big teams in tough matchups, with Man City welcoming Everton after coming up short against them in the Capital One Cup, Leicester going to White Hart Lane for the second time in a matter of days, and Liverpool hosting Arsenal at Anfield. In such a GW it might be hard to get the captaincy right as several of the usual choices face tough teams. For example, Mahrez misses out in this article as he’s failed to deliver in recent weeks and goes up against the meanest defence in the league in Tottenham. Last GW was low-scoring for many of us and there is a fear this GW will pan out similarly due to the fixtu...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 22 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 It’s time to get up, dust yourselves down and get back on that broken pony already after what was probably another dismal game-week for the good majority. Many a dormant fantasy manager will (not) be celebrating this morning as they find that their long term plan of not actually doing anything yielded a handy captain haul of 32 from Rooney whereas those slightly more proactive managers are once again left wondering why they even bothered! No point moping around in your underpants cursing Kun though as we have another game-week incoming on Saturday and it’s a quick-fire chance to right the wrongs of the last one, if that’s possible. Let’s take a look at the runners and riders for that ...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 18 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Ah, the Premier League and Christmas. A perfect union. One is an internationally renowned brand, pimped to almost every corner of the globe, exploiting working class people and pressuring every nagged parent to buy the latest overpriced merchandise. The other is the Premier League. But after the Christmas Day dinner, comes the Boxing Day banquet and then the true festival begins. 2015/16 ’tis the season to be jolly so far for Claudio Ranieri, who compared his team’s success to Forrest Gump. Presumably due to their unstoppable run to the front, rather than implying Jamie Vardy was a slow-witted American Football player with an aptitude for ping-pong. In truth, the whole Premier League campaign has...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 17 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 I’ve been summoned out of my winter slumber to provide this captains article to you all. Some of you may remember that I would write the weekly MLS column here… but since my Portland Timbers won the title, everything has been a bit foggy (could be the scotch or actual Portland fog), and I have to wonder if the events of this last year actually happened. But they assure me that I was indeed a writer here at one point, and that I’m signed on to be a writer for a while into the future. I think we celebrated a wee bit much here, because I may have already forgotten how to blog and craft an article. But they wanted me back anyway, so let’s see how this goes. Now before I give my picks, you may also recall t...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 16 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 We often consider the captain choice to be a personal affair, we don’t know why really, but we often shy from pushing someone in a particular direction when asked directly, either on here or on twitter. It just feels more ‘personal’ and perhaps that’s because the choice is often, and ultimately, the most important decision of the week. It feels like a gut call but what we do here each week is offer up the 4/5/6 (sometimes 10, depends who’s writing!) best possible options and present a reasonable argument in favour of each. After that we leave it up to you. This week we’ve gone a bit different and asked the former members of the FF247 site team panel (you don’t know t...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 15 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 As a few of you are aware, I moved to the States earlier this year (California since you asked), and things are pretty different over here. On the plus side, turning right on a red light is one of the best things ever, there’s actually a better selection of earl grey here than back home, and I can’t remember the last time I needed to wear a jumper. On the other hand, almost-obligatory tipping of 15-20% is ridiculous, seeing a good deal but then remembering you have to add the tax sucks, and the Premier League is mostly played in the middle of the night. It’s a real bummer. Once in a while we’ll get down to a local bar for breakfast and catch the late afternoon games or a Champion̵...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 14 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the Captain Picks for Game-week 14! Many of you still find yourself lower in the rankings than you are used to at this point (yours truly included), hence choosing the right captain week in and week out will prove a vital part of whether or not you will be able to resurrect your FPL pride. Luckily for you, we here at FF247 are here to help you with this endeavour! For all of you still struggling, remember that the seasoned veterans have underperformed so far as well while the noobs have enjoyed an unrealistic positive start to their FPL campaign (in fact, my room mate is ranked 23k in his first season while I’m cleaning his boots at 367k!). Also, you could choose the most rati...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 13 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Wake up! It’s already mid-week and there are FPL points to be had this weekend. I remember that we were also coming out of an international break the last time FF247 handed me the reins on this article – however, that was during the first one, back when we were all still feeling relatively fresh and optimistic – now I suspect that many of us feel about as fresh as Alexis and that much of our optimism has disappeared like Hazard at home to Liverpool. We have to re-motivate ourselves and believe that, over the coming weeks, we can strive up the leaderboards to rankings that many of us probably took for granted last season… To help with that, here are 5 of my captaincy recommendations for this weeke...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 12 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Welcome to the world of captains for Game-week 12. I often find myself pondering the little things in life. Why do we scrutinise the insignificant? We have all the time in the world but we always claim to be too busy to clear that room or meet that friend or send that email or pay that bill. More important to all that though, I have devoted most of my Sunday to working out why we complain when there are no decent captain picks and yet having too many seems just as bad. We seem these days, via a combination of fixtures and form, to be met with the latter. There is an abundance of choices and I have whittled it down to 20 for you. OK, five. Flavour of the week: Arouna Kone It seems with each passing week a hat...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 11 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Time. Some things seem to take an interminably long time to come to fruition: the Chilcot inquiry; Rooney’s next goal, or the end of a Manchester derby. Then there are things that happen routinely: Mourinho getting fined; Leeds Utd changing manager, or Artur Boruc scooping the ball into the path of a smirking opponent. Time, whether frozen or in fast-forward, is a precious commod….. Oh sod it. Did you see that FIFA presidential candidate’s name, Gianni Infantino? Hahahahaha. Oh my days. Sorry, couldn’t hold that in any longer. This week’s fixtures, in complete contrast to last week’s famine of choice, provide FPL managers with an embarrassment of riches to plunder. Free-fa...[Read More]
