Fantasy Football Captain Picks

The Captain’s Picks article, which will be released every Wednesday, will endeavor to sort out one of the most challenging problems FPL managers face – namely pick the member of your side who will accrue the most points and earn huge double point tallies for your fantasy team. We will concentrate on the most obvious looking selections each particular game-week and have a look at some comparable stats to see who, on paper, the best options are.

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 37

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 37 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 So here we are. The home stretch. The finish line of the fantasy footballing season from hell now well and truly in sight. At least for the small handful of the 3.7 million registered “fantasisers” who are still “active” and still “playing”. Just reach out and “touch” it! Actually, I better stop there, for fear LVG may be “watching”. LVG has proven in recent days that he’s quite the expert on certain non-football matters, especially those where descriptors such as “fantasisers”, “active”, “playing”, “touch” and “watching” are apt. As long I don’t take the opportunity to pull my own hair, hey Louis? I could go on, but I’m beginning to lose track of why I started this piece… Oh yeah, something about Captains. ...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 36 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 36 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 No doubles, no blanks, no fun. We’ve all been planning ahead… but not for this one! The captaincy decision still demands our attention though. Using the Triple Captain chip on Sanchez or Aguero for the recent double game-week went down a treat – they, of course, feature here once again – whilst giving the armband to Martial ended in tears: it’s a fine line that must be tread carefully every single time. This late stage of the season is a strange one; even Leeds have more to play for than half of these teams now. There’s a variety players here: those from teams that are still fighting for something, those with a double immediately after, those who’re playing Villa. Buffet. Sit back and relax...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 34

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 34 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 When a toddling infant hears the hoover starting in another room, the bell for last orders in the pub rings or whenever ‘pizza’ is brought in to my vicinity, some things in life stop you in your tracks. They may set your heart thumping, offer sobering clarity or fill you with excitement, anticipation or even fear (it could be Hawaiian urgh). For a range of such emotions in the fantasy world we have double game-weeks. If you are new to the game, this is where teams play two matches within the same game-week and offers your players double chance to score points. Imagine that multiplied by ten, add in the fact some can tailor their squad to suit via a wildcard or can utilise the Bench Boost chip meaning all FIF...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 33

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 33 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Gameweek 32 saw some unfamiliar faces get the headlines. Chelsea’s Pedro finally rewarded those loyal few who had kept faith in him since… Gameweek 1 with 16 points. Any suggestions to captain Morgan would’ve been considered rather rum, but a storming header and clean sheet combo from Leicester’s skipper gave the Foxes 3 points and FPL owners 15. Alexis Sanchez, being one of the more mainstream picks, boosted many a ranking with his goal, assist and bonus points haul. In fact, last week’s Captain Picks writer Guy Sanchez put in perhaps THE most impressive performance, with all 4 of his choices scoring at least 7 points. No pressure this week, then. Onto this week and Gameweek 33...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 32

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 32 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Since I don’t have to write an MLS article this week because of their extended DGW schedule, I figured I may as well write up the weekly FPL captains article. Also, I wanted to get my turn on the capo’s doorknob done quickly so that I didn’t get stuck having to write the DGW version of this piece. That’s just too much pressure. And I feel that my tendencies in picking capos ranges from the obvious to the completely unexpected – and I honestly believe that if I were to write this all out for a DGW… people may think it was a satire instead of an actual advice column. If you remember correctly, I picked Sergio Aguero and Enner Valencia as my top two picks for GW24. Neither was a bad pick on the whol...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 30

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 30 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Captain Picks for GW30! We are entering the part of the season where the difference between the newbies and the experienced becomes obvious, so if you all, like me, are looking to salvage some pride and climb up the rankings, this is the time to do it. Part of doing that is selecting the right captain, and I must admit, it was a bit more difficult writing this article than usual as half the teams don’t play this GW. On reflection though, it may be a vastly reduced game-week but the captain pool doesn’t suffer as a result, as there are still a good many exceptional candidates this week, so let’s get right to it.

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 28

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 28 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 After a coma-inducingly long wait, a diminished set of games and a probably-disappointing score, gameweek 27 came and flew right over our heads… this gameweek, however, there’s no such time to waste; the clock’s ticking. It’s time to pick yourself a captain once again already! Tuesday night deadlines are always fun, but can also be dangerous: they provide a platform for some of the hastiest of last-minute decision! Many of us don’t even wake up on time to mess up our teams before 11:45am on a Saturday but – unless you’ve had an all-day session like Silvers – this gameweek’s 6:45pm deadline means every FPL manager will be lingering over their laptop (or phone hidden under the dinner table) in anti...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 27

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 27 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Has it really been four months since last I graced these hallowed halls? Four months since last I spoke to my football-loving friends? Four months since last I frantically searched my address book to issue a frantic plea to Cookie and Init for a last-minute extension? Four months since I last cobbled to together a waffled intro? Yes, yes, maybe, depends on what you think of this intro. So many things have happened since we last spoke! I found professional happiness for the first time in my career and, having done so, wish the same fate for each and every one of you. Mourinho did not find the same happiness and has now gone to wherever he and Stoke fans spend their time during the week. Rumours have him going...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 24

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 24 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 The good folks here at FF247 have asked me to return once more, prior to the start of the MLS season, to give you my picks for captaincy here in GW24. And I have mixed feelings about taking on the column this week. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the space to write — it’s just that I’m doubting myself now after my disastrous cappo last week. In GW23, I had Aguero and Lukaku to choose from as my captain selection. Even though every fiber* of my being told me that Aguero would be the sensible pick to keep pace with the herd, I let my heart take over and I capped Lukaku instead. Was I trying to get too cute with my pick? Maybe. Was I trying to prove that when the chips are down, I’ll pick my beloved Ever...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 23

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 23 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 A belated Happy New Year people! Hopefully the start of a steady climb into the upper percentiles for those of us further down the pecking order, and for those of you already there, well you hardly need my help do you?! Leicester are on level points at the top of the league more than halfway through the season, which is incredible in itself. Almost all of us surely want to see them go all the way now; seeing Lineker in his undies will just be a bonus extra. At the other end of the table things are looking no better for Villa, who currently sit 6 points adrift of 19th place..! This isn’t news to any of us I know, but it’s still amazing to see it written down. Bookmark this though: they will not go...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 21

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 21 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Hello ladies and gents, and welcome to the Captain Picks for GW 21! This game-week sees several of the big teams in tough matchups, with Man City welcoming Everton after coming up short against them in the Capital One Cup, Leicester going to White Hart Lane for the second time in a matter of days, and Liverpool hosting Arsenal at Anfield. In such a GW it might be hard to get the captaincy right as several of the usual choices face tough teams. For example, Mahrez misses out in this article as he’s failed to deliver in recent weeks and goes up against the meanest defence in the league in Tottenham. Last GW was low-scoring for many of us and there is a fear this GW will pan out similarly due to the fixtu...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 22

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 22 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 It’s time to get up, dust yourselves down and get back on that broken pony already after what was probably another dismal game-week for the good majority. Many a dormant fantasy manager will (not) be celebrating this morning as they find that their long term plan of not actually doing anything yielded a handy captain haul of 32 from Rooney whereas those slightly more proactive managers are once again left wondering why they even bothered! No point moping around in your underpants cursing Kun though as we have another game-week incoming on Saturday and it’s a quick-fire chance to right the wrongs of the last one, if that’s possible. Let’s take a look at the runners and riders for that ...[Read More]
