Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 11 There seems to be a slightly worrying trend developing here. Namely, players notching incredible scores out of the blue with previous performances suggesting nothing of the sort was on the cards. This week was the turn of Harry Kane to blunder a hat-trick having previously grabbed just 1 goal and 0 assists in 9 games. Aguero began all this back in GW8 with that 5 goal haul having previously boasted a run of 7 games with just 1 goal and 1 assist to show for his efforts. Wijnaldum picked the baton up in GW9 with 4 goals and funnily enough the exact same record of 1 goal and 1 assist in his previous 7. Not to be outdone, Raheem Sterling also grabbed 3 in GW9, and guess what… yep, 1 goal and 1 assist in his previous 7 league appearances. Worryingly ...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 10 Sometimes, occasionally, all the stars align and something special occurs. That was game-week 8. It was mainly due to Aguero and that five goal haul but it also combined with some great performances from a good majority of the ‘popular’ players. The result was that many managers were able to post scores over the holy grail 100 point mark. Game-week 9 was never likely to match those heights but it did at least feel like a return to some kind of normality in that it wasn’t spectacular but neither was it ridiculously disappointing, as some weeks have been. That’s unless of course you somehow had both Sterling and Wijnaldum in tandem in your midfield! The pair combined for seven goals and a total points haul of 44. Chances are thou...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 9 At some point in our lives, we’ve all lent out something precious to someone we trust, with tragic consequences. I recall with particular regret allowing a neighbour to test-drive my newly acquired pedal go-kart, only to helplessly watch him shatter the sound barrier, the wall at the bottom of our cul-de-sac and, ultimately, my go-kart. So it was with immense empathy that I learned of Manchester City’s recent weekus horribilis. For one club to lose players of the stature of Aguero, Silva AND Kolarov whilst on their tours of international duty, is like having your best friend break your lawnmower, spill coffee on your prized Picasso, and scratch that signed Elvis LP. Whether it be as a fan, frustrated by these sporadically intermittent incon...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 8 Game-week 7 is over and we now move to week 8 and wouldn’t you know it, we now have a title race (for at least the time being). Not two weeks ago we were ready to hand Manchester City the Premier League crown to save the Premier League Officials the insurance money of looking after the trophy for another nine months but now City are second in the league and Manchester United, ridiculed and often-dismissed United, lead the league by one point. Fun fact: Chelsea have now dropped more points this season than they have in their entire 9 year history! The untouchable Jose is now the playground pushover as Garry Monk, Manuel Pellegrini, Alan Pardew, Roberto Martinez and even Steve McClaren have taken some or all of his lunch money. Arsenal will, as usual, sc...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 7 A certain young Frenchman opened up a very interesting debate yesterday which was encapsulated by two very differing opinions. Bigpopz landed firmly on ‘Form over Fixtures’, every time. Los Machos countered with his stance of ‘Fixtures over Form’, every time. The correct answer is probably in the grey area in between somewhere but either way it got us to thinking – what are we actually trying to achieve here by presenting the fixture information every week and how do we come to the conclusions that we do? Well firstly we should explain that we do take form into consideration but it’s more the form of the teams involved than the individual players. We look at the form of the respective teams and over a course of games...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 6 We continue to persevere, we continue to make the most educated picks possible and we continue to fail to even come close to 60 points for a single week. It’s getting to the point now where we just have to laugh and assure ourselves that we know what we’re doing and that it’s just a matter of time before the better players in the league prove why they are given that credit. Precautionary resting, woodwork getting smashed, Palace defenders attempting to slice our main man in half… wonderful. Will the towel be thrown in? Nope. Will we keep going and happily wait to smash the “Four-time-Kompany-cappers” down the overall standings? Damn straight! How dare they! Lets begin to plot these nutters’ downfall now by taki...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 5 We usually huff and curse at the first sight of an International break rudely interrupting our FPL flow just as it gathers steam and we all start stretching our legs and getting into the flow of things… Not this season! It’s actually felt more like a chance to go take a good long hard look in the FPL mirror, Cinderella style, and just hope it doesn’t crack at the sight of those first four game-weeks. The break has for once been timely and afforded every fantasy manager a chance to quietly reflect on the train wreck that preceded it. Now whether that meant a wholesale change in the shape of a wildcard or a decision to slowly push on, with the originally well thought out plans and players, in the hope that some sort of normality returns...[Read More]
Is it time to play that wild card or take a points hit? Analytical Guide to Fixtures GW4-GW11 So the 2015-16 season has started and many experienced FPL managers have had terrible starts (well based on my own mini-leagues anyway). Chelsea’s form is/was seemingly in decline and with some big hitters like Sanchez and Aguero fit again many managers have already started to panic. Key players like Hazard, Rooney, Sterling, Ivanovic and Walcott are leaving us with captain scores of 4 (and in my GW1 even less!). The only players who seem to be delivering are the City old boys, Man Utd’s new right back and Leicester City’s attackers.
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 2 Well that was good wasn’t it! Nailed on keepers getting sent off. Sunderland defenders collecting negative points like they were going out of fashion. Players starting out of the blue. Players not starting out of the blue. Arsenal midfielders going missing. Arsenal goalkeepers going missing. Champions faltering. Champion contenders collapsing. Mahrez. Albrighton. Hennessey. We could go on and on, but we will probably just depress you further, if that’s at all possible! The good news is that the majority of managers had a stinker so you won’t have to look far to find some solace. If you were one of the few that managed upwards of 40 odd points then well done! (That sentence probably sums up game-week 1 in a nutshell). What we do have n...[Read More]
Fantasy Football Fixtures Game-week 3 This just isn’t going to plan is it? With most of the favoured picks not showing up after two gameWeeks, many fantasy managers have been left wondering where it all went wrong. The high priced picks such as Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney – among others – have all started off sluggishly, resulting in mass wildcarding and doubt casting over our initial squads. Last gameweek threw up some surprise results such as Sunderland once again disintegrating at the hands of the mighty Norwich, Everton showing the previously rock solid Southampton how it’s done with a dazzling display of counter attacking and Manchester United scraping over the line once again. The 2014/15 Champions have also stuttered in reverse and were well and ...[Read More]
Analytical Guide to Fixtures GW1 – GW8 This article looks to review the importance of a team’s fixtures and how to use rotation in a slightly different way to the existing tools and opinions available on FPL selection. The highlights (for the opening 8 GW’s) are: Attacking – Arsenal and Man United look the strongest of the big teams – Southampton and Swansea are good for mid priced teams – Leicester and Bournemouth are likely to be the best budget teams (and both rotate well with Crystal Palace) Defending – Chelsea are the stand out team defensively – Southampton and West ham are good for mid priced teams – Leicester and West Brom are the best budget options (and rotate well with West ham and Southampton) In general – There are some teams tha...[Read More]
