MLS GW14 – Tips Fantasy Major League Soccer Surprise everybody, MLS is back this weekend. Right in the middle of all of the other truly great international competitions going on, we have a round of MLS action that will, by and large, go by unnoticed. Now this isn’t so much a criticism of the MLS schedule and their methodology of trying to compete for TV viewers against better footballing options (though I have made that criticism in other forums) – but this is rather a call to action for those savvy enough to realize that they have an opportunity here to gain ground in the MLS league while other players are focused on other things. Maybe your Euro fantasy team is already in the dumpster (I captained Greizmann right off the bat and could never wake up early enough to switch my c...[Read More]
MLS GW12 – Tips Fantasy Major League Soccer If you were one of those few people out there who absolutely knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that NYRB were going to have one of the most explosive weeks, then you should probably just hang it up now and move on. It won’t get any better than that. They had two shutouts and took the NY Derby to the tune of 7-0. I think we’re all a bit baffled by how good they really were. And as proof, they have 7 members of their squad in the week’s Dream Team. As for the other three teams on a double? Only Will Johnson from Toronto is represented (no way you saw that coming). And the other 3 slots on the Dream Team went to single-game players. Was GW11 a disappointing round then? Yes and no. The math of the DGW situation held true – 8 of 11 players...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 38 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 After 38 rounds of Premier League football, this season has finally come to an end, and what a season it has been! Leicester City, a team that barely escaped relegation last season, have proven to all of us that hard work and passion can beat money, Tottenham have stepped out of the shadows of 5th place to the shadows of 2nd place instead; Arsenal will actually manage to avoid finishing 4th (unless they lose to Aston Villa – about as likely as Leicester winning the league!), Rafa Benitez made the impressive leap (fall) from Santiago Bernabéu to Tyneside; and Jurgen Klopp brought his enigmatic personality – and perhaps even a Europa League trophy – to the Kopites. Perhaps most importantly though – next season...[Read More]
Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 35 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 A change of scenery for me this week. With no fixtures write up to be done and a capo writer harder to come by than an Irish summer, I decided to take the plunge and see what all the fuss is about. The first thought was why on earth was the blank week the one to jump in on? What an idiot. Then the happy realisation that of all the blank teams there was absolutely nothing, other than maybe Payet, of note missing from this weeks selection. Happy days. The man with glass in his hammys, one Sergio Aguero, was the shout last week with a cool hat-trick against Chelsea and a strike against Newcastle bringing in a hefty 52 points as captain in the big DGW of the season, further proving why he is one of the most fear...[Read More]
MLS DGW4 Tips – Fantasy Major League Soccer Are you still playing FMLS? Because if you are, you’re about to encounter one of the worst things about the American league – the nonsensical way in which the MLS handles international breaks. Whereas this coming weekend is a period of rest from club play for (pretty much) the entire world, the MLS still managed to schedule three matches. So 14 MLS clubs get to take the time off and not be affected by international call-ups, but 6 clubs have to navigate around reduced rosters. Makes sense right? Somehow those three matches are so crucial that they couldn’t have been delayed another week. I will say this though, in the past, the MLS would have made this weekend a proper game week – that is, they would’ve just given you unlimited ...[Read More]
Fantasy football Trends From The Top – GW31 Welcome to this week’s edition of Trends From the Top. What have the leaders been up to and what will our leaders being doing as we edge towards the end of the season? More importantly, how will they approach the ensuing DGW bonanza set for DGW’s 34 and 37? Let’s take a look and see what’s going on. How are our current leaders going to approach GW 34? Unlike many of my league competitors who have deployed nearly every chip and wildcard, I have failed to use one so, like many of you, I have been planning and plotting potential possibilities (I love alliteration) for the plethora of double games which will take place in GW 34 and 37. I am debating if the proper course of action is to deploy the wildcard during GW 33 and the bench boost for GW...[Read More]

Captain Picks Fantasy Football Game-week 31 – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 Submitted for your approval: five Premier League attacking players. Each different in style, nationality and team, but nevertheless connected on the football pitch as each strives to score more than the others, all the while totally oblivious to the fact that they are merely pawns in a twisted fantasy game. This is a cruel joke on multiple levels however, for those who play the game are themselves often left dazed and confused, regretting decisions and pulling their hair out. Only a select few find solace in the arms of the fantasy gods, and there’s the rub, as Hamlet so aptly put it; the harsh reality of a points-based sub-game to a points-based sport. Five players for your perusal, but only one can b...[Read More]
Planning Ahead – DGW’s, Blanks etc… – Fantasy Premier League 2015/16 “When are the double game-weeks?” “Who misses GW27?” “Why is everybody talking about GW30 in terms of some sort of FPL apocalypse?!” “When is the best time to use my chips?” “Are there any other ‘GW30’ type surprises on the way?” These are just some of the more common questions we’ve been asked recently and so we wanted to clear it all up and make it as as easy to understand as possible. It’s dead simple really. When you know the answer. That largely depends on the question though. In this case we know the questions and we know part of the answers. The rest of it is guesswork right now but here’s what we know,...[Read More]

The third in a sudden rush of GW’s sees a Saturday lunchtime derby with many title aspirations on the line as Spurs host Arsenal in the first game at 12.45pm. A win for Spurs will surely see the Gunners title dreams in tatters and have Spurs fans thinking of the unthinkable. There are then a seemingly unprecedented six 3pm Saturday kick-offs, the highlight of which will surely be to see just how many Man City, and Aguero in particular, can put past Villa! Saturday evening sees Leicester go to Watford in an attempt to further their own title credentials. Sunday then begins with Liverpool visiting Palace before West Brom entertain Man United at 4pm to see the week out.
Fantasy Football FF247 Team Game-week 29 Well that went well….NOT! A total score of 28 points in GW28 may seem to some as irony, but to us at FF247 it has completely summed up our season. Rubbish. We couldn’t even beat an average of 35 and thus dropped 86k places to an overall rank of 906,635. Nothing has gone right and frankly none of us will be sad to wave this season farewell. Or piss off. GW28 in summary – this summary won’t take long, it’s painful to write and painful to read, unless you like a touch of self harm. The highlight of our score was two assists. Yep, that’s it – two assists. No goals scored, no clean sheets kept. The assisters were Payet and Mahrez. Everything else was clearly a complete disaster. Hennessey in goal conceded two at ...[Read More]
