Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 10

Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 10! I have been on a bit of a slump in the last few weeks after grabbing scores of 50, 32 and 25 over three gameweeks. This has been below the average score each week so I am not having the greatest of times in the world of FPL but it seems like most people are also doing poorly so at least there is that! In those three weeks, my captains have given me returns of 6, 2 and 10 which is terrible from the men with the armband, especially Pukki and his return of a measly 1 point that was doubled to give me 2! Most of the players I am planning on tipping in this article I don’t actually have as of yet but I will do my best to bring in one or more of them as I will be hoping that these players will score and score big for us this weekend! This past weekend saw abysmal returns by the top 5 captain choices who were Aguero, Abraham, Sterling, Aubameyang and Salah. Sterling is the only one who actually did anything this weekend. At least Abraham and Auba started, unlike Aguero and Salah. I thankfully capped little Raheem but I would have hoped for a bit more. Well without further ado… my picks!

Raul Jiménez vs Newcastle

My first pick is Raul Jiménez and in my typical fashion he is, of course, somewhat of a differential! The Mexican Wolf is a player that has been kind of flying under the radar this season with him only being selected in 9.6% of teams. The Wolves striker has gotten two assists and one goal in the last two games before and after the international break and is going on to play Newcastle this weekend who aren’t the greatest of defensive sides, having only kept three clean sheets all season. Jiménez has played in every game so far this season only playing less than 90 minutes on three occasions where he still reached the 69-minute mark. In the 9 games the Wolves striker has played, four of those games saw him grab 5 points or more. I would suggest that with the likes of Jota and Adama Traore either side of him and supply from Doherty and Otto on the overlap there is plenty of opportunity for goals, assists, bonus points or all three.

Vardy or Maddison vs Southampton

Here I have tipped Jamie Vardy to score some points for us as I hope he doesn’t want his wife to hog all the headlines and will put his own name up in lights with a few goals. Vardy is the top points scorer for the Foxes this season with 54 points which is largely thanks to his tally of six goals and one assist. The lack of assists would be worrying for me if it was any other player, but Vardy doesn’t really have any other partner up top to provide for. This is both a good and bad thing as like I say he does not have many chances for assists but it means he is the main target for Leicester and allows for him to get plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. The only thing putting a lot of people off Vardy must be his price because it definitely isn’t his fixtures which are brilliant until Christmas. At 9.0 mil, he is much higher priced than the likes of Raul Jiménez, Temu Pukki and Tammy Abraham. If you don’t want to pay 9.0 mil I would have to suggest James Maddison in the Leicester midfield. I was torn between tipping Maddison or Tielemans but it was consistency that tipped it in Maddison’s favour. Tielemans has gotten 2 or 3 points in every game bar two all season getting 12 and 9 in those two whereas Maddison has gotten more of a spread with 5,6,10, and 7 in four of his games with the other four games getting 3,2,1, and 2. There was one game that Maddison got 0 but he did not play so I am not counting that. Maddison is also on freekick duty and we all know he can hit them. The consistency and set-pieces are why I chose to tip Maddison over the Belgian.

PEA vs Crystal Palace

This guy is annoying me as I really want him in my team, but his price is acting as a deterrent. I feel this could be the same for a lot of people as the likes of KDB, Salah, Sterling, Aguero and TAA / Robbo are taking up a huge chunk of our £100 million purse. The Gabon striker has played 90 minutes in every single game this season and scored seven goals in that time. Much like Vardy, PEA has only grabbed one assist but also like Vardy it is mainly due to PEA not having any proper strike partner as his regular partner, Lacazette, has been a bit injured. Laca has only played in three games this season and one of those was a cameo of 9 minutes so this has largely hurt PEA’s assist potential. On the plus side it means PEA has been the key striker for Emery’s side and this has seen him blank in only two games all season against Bournemouth & Sheffield United. Worryingly, these are his most recent games! Hopefully he will be back amongst the points against Palace at the weekend. Palace have kept three clean sheets this season but those were against two newly promoted teams and Everton which is not the greatest of achievements so I wouldn’t think they keep Arsenal from scoring.

City midfielder vs Aston Villa

I actually had this section entitled ‘City player’ but on further reflection I realised I didn’t feel that comfortable saying you could captain any City player as quite frankly that is not true. I wouldn’t cap Ederson, a defender or even a striker so instead I said cap a midfielder. You may have raised an eyebrow when I said I wouldn’t be comfortable capping a City striker, but this is because Aguero was just dropped in the last game and has been in and out at odd times due to Pep’s frustrating tactics! Jesus is the opposite and has rarely played but gets put on in most games as a sub. It is just too risky to cap one right now and I feel that a City midfielder is the best option for the armband against Villa this weekend. In midfield there is a plethora of choices for the armband; Sterling, KdB, Dilva, Bilva, and Mahrez are all in great form right now and really whichever one you have I would put the armband on them. I personally have KdB and Sterling so each week I have to make the decision between the two but really, it’s a good headache to have. Sterling has 6 goals and 1 assist, KdB has 2 goals and 9 assists, Dilva and Mahrez both have 2 goals and 5 assists and Bilva has 4 goals and 2 assists so really you can’t go wrong with any of the Sky Blue midfielders and that is why I couldn’t single out any one player.
