Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 22
Welcome to Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 22
With the deadline looming on Friday and a DGW in the offing it is time to focus the mind on where best to place that all important armband. Here are Rosco, OddDane and Init to help you along…
Rosco – Bruno Fernandes v Palace (H) & Leeds (H)
Unless you’re brave, mad or ‘a casual’ (I sometimes wish I was), then breaking from the usual Haaland captaincy is a rare thing. However, with a tasty home double for Manchester United, that time has come.
Fresh off his 19-pointer in DGW20 Bruno Fernandes offers managers the perfect opportunity to go against the crowd in a week where most FPL managers will back ‘the other guy’. Of course, that in and of itself could be a bold move given that I expect Marcus Rashford to exceed 100% EO (effective ownership) by some distance given that many will also opt to use their TC chip. However, whisper it quietly, but Bruno Fernandes may be the better pick. This is by no means an easy sell.
Since the WC break, Rashford comes out on top for both FPL points (46 to 39) and goals (5 to 2) and whilst Bruno however has more assists (3 to 1), Rashford still comes out on top for NPxGI (Non-Penalty goal involvement) with 4.43 to Bruno’s 3.77. Still with me? Great! With the introduction of Weghorst, Manchester United may be less reliant on Rashford’s goals, he may even get some much-needed rest given his recent injury scares. Bruno will play 90 in both matches, and as he showed in DGW20, he can still hit those heady heights of the 2020/21 season, the injury to Christian Eriksen will also likely mean Bruno is back on set-piece duty. Is that all you’ve got? I can hear you cry! Well, yeah, but that doesn’t mean to say it’s not a good idea right?
OddDane – Rashford v Palace (H) & Leeds (H)
Let’s see now, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. The captain is the one that gives extra points right? Because I looked at my team and I could’ve sworn that’s definitely not how it works… Ah well, let’s get on with it. Next chap up for picks is Marcus, Mr. Marcus Rashford of Manchester United that is.
As the keen FF247 reader you are, you will undoubtably have seen that Marcus and his teammates have not one, but two home games to tend to this game week. As icing on the cake those two encounters are against Crystal Palace and Leeds, both of which are no strangers to the odd ball in their net.
Over the past five games the Eagles have conceded 9 goals, and Leeds 5. Okay that latter one isn’t too bad. Unsurprisingly though, they’re both fighting against Leicester and Wolves on who has had the most xG conceded (I do believe LCFC narrowly “won” that one). Finally, I’m pretty sure that the Eagles and quite possibly also Leeds have been worst on shots and big chances conceded since GW17, although admittedly I haven’t bothered to check all details properly (*Look. They’re just not that great at defending, alright? Ok? Okay then!).
Rashford’s form on the other hand is no joking matter, over the span of his last 6 games he has had 6 returns (5G, 1A). Blanking only against, err… Nope.
Okay, it was Crystal Palace. Well, he’ll want to change that, won’t he!?
Moving on. Last night’s game against Forest was no exception mind you, even if he just got away with an assist (or was it two!?).
What say you lads and lassies, is Marcus your man for the week? That was rhetorical, of course he is!
*As a Rashford owner myself some unconscious bias may have applied in writing this great, great piece of art little note… and some pinot noir may have affected the equation too…

Init – Haaland v Spurs (a)
I think I may have got the thin end of the wedge this week! And it’s not often you say that when all you have to do is promote Erling’s chances of scoring you some (many) FPL points!
Now of course, he doesn’t have a DGW like his Manchester rivals, his turn at that particular delight comes at us next week. On which point, he has Villa at home and Arsenal away – just something to point out as many will be weighing up the TC so you have to consider whether you think those are more worthy of it on him than perhaps some of this week’s doublers as presented to you above. One point on that is that his Villa game is at home and let’s face it that usually means hatty time for him.
Unfortunately, this week’s game is away and he and City alike have been less potent on their travels. Of his 25 league goals only 7 have been away but then he’s only played in 8, so hardly still slacking, and the home goals have been coming in clumps of 3!
Since Pep decided enough was enough, which was roughly about a league game and a half ago, and exactly at half-time, ironically against Spurs, City have put in 7 league goals, and Haaland has inevitably plundered the majority with 4.
Should you, for whatever reason, wish not to risk a DGW Captain, you really need to be on the best of the other horses available. And this guy is Red Rum. On steroids.
The confessional…
This is where we ask our entire writing team to tell us who they think they will pick this week…. There are more caveats and get out clauses than an awkward conversation between Todd Boehly and Hakin Ziyech over flight costs back from Paris to London.

FF247 LEAGUES FOR 2022/23
Fantasy Football 247 League Codes:
Both leagues will be shut to new entrants as of 01/01/23.
I’ve got 2 FT to burn and already have Martinez, Shaw and Rashford (TC)
Would you change United cover to be Bruno, Shaw and Rashford (TC)
I would bring in Gabriel for Martinez ready for ARS DW next GW and losing Salah for Bruno
Sound decent moves for free tbf …think I would!
Hard to say without knowing your team but I’d say burn the transfer or use it elsewhere in your team. I expect it’ll be valuable with two free transfers for DGW23.
Guess what Dane, I did take a hit finally…for Shaw.
Arsonist!
Anyone know what possible dgw there are later in the season. Thinking about TC rashford but kind of hard to do that while Haaland might get a nice double later on…
Can’t see it properly now as I’m only on my phone but it’s in here somewhere on one of the many, many tabs…

Yes that is my dilemma.
Always thought it would be Haaland – but think his upcoming dgw is a little harder.
Rashford’s I think is easier, and slightly edging towards TC him this dgw.
Cant fathom out the spreadsheet, and cant get onto Twitter at work unfortunately..lol
These are Ben’s prediction for the possible DGWs and BGWs
Thanks Ivan.
Being thick as usual….. do you think there is a chance that M.City could get another potential dgw?
Hammerfan, I don’t think we’ll get better chance than DGWs 22 and 23. At the moment across all boards people are split between the two. I am going with Rash TC. Two home games against two of the worst defences with 5 days rest between, while Haaland will play against Villa who have conceded only 5 goals in the last five games, than with only 2 days break against Arsenal who are the second best defence in the league.
Anyway, as the two players are heavily owned, whatever happens in these two weeks won’t make much difference. The margin will be a very small between either Rashford or Haaland as TC. One thing is for sure, it will not be a season defining result.
Cheers Ivan much appreciated.
That has helped me alot.
Think i know which way to go, and who the TC will be on…. c’mon Rashy!!
Cucu->Shaw my only move this week I think.
Not sure a -4 to do KdB->Bruno is worth it.
Want to get Bruno in for KDB but need to lose another united player. So I’m thinking martial is my best option but who to replace him with? Have 2fts and 0.7 itb.
Also wondering whether to get rid of Walker? Anything else I’m missing? Thanks
How about Martial to Nketiah, ready for his DGW23? I’d wait and deal with Walker next week, if he doesn’t feature this week.
Yes nketiah is a good shout. Is Jesus back soon
Kickers, you can do KDB/Martial↔Bruno/Gnonto for one week only and then get the former back next week. Personally, I would leave the team as that and maybe upgrade Martinelli to Odegard which will be a very popular move for the next DGW. I wouldn’t worry about Walker till next week as you have enough defenders for this GW.
So bring kdb back in? And have Bruno as a one week punt?
I did it among many others. But, it’s up to you as Martial can be good as well in those two games.
Ok thanks
What about just doing martinelli to ode hard and saving a transfer then?
Odegaard
I think that’s what your saying ?
Morning all! I haven’t had a chance to look at options yet so thought I would get some inspiration from you all! Team needs freshening up and I’ve got 2FTs and 3.3 to spend. Any suggestions?
Igy, replace Cancelo with Ake and upgrade upgrade either Almiron or Andreas to Rashford.
Thanks Ivan! I already have Rashford. What are Lewis’ minutes going to be like now Cancelo has left?
Oops sorry, I meant Bruno
As for Lewis, it’s still up in the air. Pep has lots of prising about him but at just 18 don’t know how nailed he could be. I would wait and see, might chance him next week myself as had enough of Stones and his escapades.
Cancelo to Schar/Botman/Ake and Almiron to Bruno Fernandes.
+1
Ake has a double next GW and Botman /Schar blank 25, i just worry about how much the City defence can change with Dias and Laporte fit again and Lewis looks good for only 18 yrs old
This is my team, am I good to go?
Not sure about playing White
Well, I would play White over Akanji.
Stones out for a few weeks to a month. Would see him potentially back GW25 or GW26.
