Fantasy Football Captain Picks Gameweek 30

Welcome to Captain Picks Gameweek 30. Another week goes and another week where there was little joy in the armband department. The top ten FPL captains got the following scores 2, 3, -1, 6, 7, -1, 3, 2, 3 and 1 which all means…… F@#K FPL! Kane and Hazard were the only two to get more than 3 points so well done if you had it on either of them. The top scorer of the weekend was turncoat, Declan bloody Rice with 15 points, if you had Jimenez, Deeney or Lukaku they were the only strikers who got over 10 points, so again well done. This week is looking like a lucky dip of captaincy choices as the big players aren’t firing and the poor teams are playing each other but I was told I had to write an article so write one I shall!

In fact, I’m going to make this article short and sweet for those who don’t like reading much… if you have Aguero or any City attacker then cap them, so if you want to stop reading and go straight to the comments fire ahead but if you don’t have a City player or just want to figure out your VC then here are some more options below!

6. Jimenez (a) vs Chelsea

WOLVERHAMPTON, ENGLAND – MARCH 02: Raul Jimenez of Wolverhampton Wanderers celebrates after scoring his team’s second goal during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City. (Photo by Matthew Lewis/Getty Images)

This one is mainly due to the Mexican’s form and Chelsea being all over the place and by conceding to Fulham last weekend then I can’t see why Wolves can’t score at least one goal, and if they do then Jimenez will be somewhere nearby. It is seven games since Jimenez has failed to return any attacking returns with five goals and two assists in recent weeks. This would be the riskiest of my choices for the week!

5. Salah / Mane (h) v Burnley

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – JANUARY 15: Mohamed Salah with Sadio Mane of Liverpool. (Photo by John Powell/Liverpool FC via Getty Images)

I was really reluctant to recommend any Liverpool players this week, perhaps that’s just the pessimistic fan in me, or maybe I’m just feeling the pressure like Klopp. There are five other options that jumped out at me immediately and none of them were Liverpool. Now I hope I’m wrong and that they will smash Burnley, but the attackers have gone on holiday a bit, plus Burnley are an unpredictable animal at the moment. I just don’t feel particularly comfortable telling you to cap Salah or co. That said, Liverpool are averaging nearly 3 goals per home game, Burnley are averaging nearly 2 goals against per away game and despite recent perceived stutters Liverpool at home since Christmas have put 5 past Watford, 3 past Bournemouth, 4 past Palace, 5 past Arsenal and 4 past Newcastle for a total of 22 goals in 6 games. To hell with it then, captain one if you like, and if it doesn’t work work out, go find your nearest ball boy.

4. Vardy (h) vs Fulham

I didn’t watch Leicester in Brendan Rodgers’ first game, but I followed some of the comments on this site and on twitter and it seems like the formation was a strange one! Leicester lost but Vardy scored for the third time in four games and with Tielemans, Maddison and Gray around him there is plenty of supply for the Red Bull chugger. Leicester come up against Fulham who have an inexperienced manager in Scott Parker and have only kept two clean sheets all season, which should mean plenty of chances for Rodgers’ men.

3. Zaha (h) vs Brighton

BURNLEY, ENGLAND – MARCH 02: Wilfried Zaha celebrates after scoring a goal during the Premier League match between Burnley FC and Crystal Palace. (Photo by Sebastian Frej/MB Media/Getty Images)

The Eagles are soaring as of late having lost only once in six games and that man Wilf has been instrumental in it all. In the last six games, the Ivorian has notched an impressive five goals taking his total for the season to eight. If he can chip in with some assists for the rest of his Palace teammates the winger would be in a lot more sides than the 13.1% he is right now. If you don’t have him I would highly consider getting him as his fixtures are good but that’s for someone else’s article.

2. Chicharito (a) vs Cardiff

This one I wasn’t sure on to be honest as the fixture is really good for West Ham as Cardiff have only kept one clean sheet in seven games, so much like Leicester against Fulham, West Ham should have plenty chances against Cardiff. The reason I was so unsure is because I don’t know where the goals will come from exactly. The second Mexican in this list, Chica, may be the best option as he’s a proven goalscorer but the problem with West Ham is no consistency. The points are coming from everyone with Noble, Antonio, Snoddy and Chica all getting the share of points in their last few games. This really is fixture over form and consistency so if you have a Hammer and need a differential then take a roll of the dice!

1. City player (h) vs Watford

BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND – MARCH 02: The personalised Puma boots of Vincent Kompany of Manchester City during the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City. (Photo by Catherine Ivill/Getty Images)

If you have one cap them! It’s City playing at home, with 9 games left and a point ahead in the table so they will want to extend that lead. Aguero is the main option but Sterling is a great option too. If you have either or both of them then flip a coin because both are brilliant this season. If you want a differential, then I would suggest Bernardo Silva; he has been quietly going about his business this season but it has been vital for the team and he will only get better. If you thought Liverpool’s home stats were good then consider this; City have scored 10 more than them…

    Hey Everyone.
Not a bad gw29 for me, closed the gap on 1st and 2nd place, so still in contention.

Who can I ditch Bennett for? I was thinking David Luiz, even though the 2 people ahead have him?
Will Vardy be fit in time?
    Who can I captain?

Anyone else already played the WC? Need suggestions guys. What should I do here? Only have 4 players for the blank. Don’t want to play FH. Saving it for a DGW. How does the team look? Can’t decide on future transfers..

      Kop Warrior says:

      Constantine,

I think you need to decide which players you are willing to transfer out ahead of GW31. Currently we know for sure that United & Wolves both have a double in GW32 so that means you’ll probably want to hold onto the Jota, Jimenez, Pogba & Shaw.
The difficulty you face is that any remaining doubles for GW32 are unlikely to be announced until after the GW31 deadline which makes planning all the more difficult for you.
Should you decide to FH in GW32 you will probably make planning for GW31&33 that bit easier but then you’re possibly creating problems for yourself ahead of GW35.

      • constantine says:

Hey Kop. Thanks for the reply mate.
You are right about Utd and Wolves players. They are not going anywhere. Also, I think Jota now really is playing a false no. 9. So, they’ll stay. Iam planning to get players from Newcastle and Chelsea as they might have both BGW and DGW games. Schar, Dubravka, Alonso/Luiz, Hazard/Pedro come to mind. Hopefully, City, CP, Cardiff, Soton would also get DGW games. Then I can field 12-13 dgw players. What say?

        • Kop Warrior says:

Newcastle & Chelsea players make sense. However, to get either Hazard or Higuain you’ll probably need to sell Sterling or Kun.

    • 14.2

      I have.

      Ok.
Had a quick look and if I am not wrong, seems like your team is better set for 32.
I understand the desire to use the FH in 32 as it is a DGW, however if you do you ll need to sacrifice BGW31.
If you have 4 players yo ll have 2 ore transfers to use which means a maximum of 6 (w/out taking hits) or 7/8 players if you decide to take a hit(not sure it’s worth it).
Anyway, if you still decide on playing your FH in 32, you still need to build for 33 (and onwards).

      So, you either :
-build for 31 & 33 and play your FH in 32 (you’ need to sacrifice 31 a bit)
      or
-play your FH in 31 and build for DGW32 (as you’re better set for 32) but this would mean you ll end up having the same players for 33 as you have now for 31(plus 2or3 max).

I would personally play the FH in a DGW (32) as there is a much better choice of players and teams to choose from and build a strong 11 (all dgw-ers).
If you decide to take that route, then you should start building for 31 & 33.
This is bcs pretty much the same teams feature in both.
Again, you ll need to sacrifice 31 a bit, since there is realistically no time to bring in a lot of players, but you have no other choice atm.

I’m throwing you a few things that may help you in terms of the direction you should be following when building for 31 & 33 (FH in 32).

There are 9 teams who have a fixture in both weeks. These are:

      Bournemouth (from GW30 fixtures improve)
      Burnley (from GW31 fixtures improve)
      Chelsea (from GW29 fixtures improve)
      Everton (mixed schedule)
      Huddersfield (maybe only Schindler)
      Leicester (good fixtures)
      Liverpool (3xplayers-your choice)
Newcastle (good fixtures) *** they still might blank in GW33 – don’t overload***
West Ham (mixed fixtures but still worth a look)

So, say you use 2FT+1 -4hit (in 30+31) – you ll end up having 7 players in GW31.
You ll need to choose players from the teams above – as they don’t have a blank gw.
You then use your FH in 32.
      GW33, you ll end up having 7players from 31+the 2 City players+1FT=10players.
(UTD & Wolves blank in 33 as well – this has been confirmed).
In addition to this -> Pls keep in mind that the City/NEW/Palace(teams you have players from) and the other teams marked with yellow on the Fixture tracker above, are still considered as “games at risk” – so you might end up w/out these players in 33 as well !
***that was a pretty rough calculation based on the screen shot of your team above…

I would suggest that you put the fixture tracker in front of you and start scribbling down possible transfer scenarios, based on the above info (if it helps).

      Cheers 😉 !!

p.s. the above was written to help you decide easier, not to confuse you even more smile …..

      • HL

        That’s brilliant. I enjoyed that.

Hopefully very cathartic for you too smile

        • Had to get it out of my chest, GP smile
Let’s hope the chaotic info above won’t confuse Constantine even more 😉 .

My head was exploding when I was making my own team, after deciding to WC early this year.
Since, I’ve found tranquility as it has allowed me to set my team up for the next couple of weeks.

However, since I’m the only one who has done it(WC-ed early), it’s become impossible to find a soul in this FPL universe who has done the same, so had no chance to discuss my moves with anyone.

Having expressed my (chaotic) thoughts to Constantine, I somehow do feel cleansed, yes smile

      • Frenchie says:

        Very good read indeed smile
In your scenario, getting back the City players in GW33 is really highly hypothetic as I wouldn’t count on them losing against Swansea!

In your case Constantine, I would consider FH in 31, and preparing for DGW32, you look more set up for that strategy.

        • Yeah, I mentioned the same thing.
He is way better set up for 32, true.
However, he did mention he wants to FH in 32, so this is why I gave him more info & facts for that scenario.

Nevertheless, should he choose to FH in 31 and build for 32, in 33 again he won’t be able to feld a full 11.
So, in theory he needs to sacrifice either 31 or 33.
          If I’m not wrong.

      • constantine says:

HL. That’s brilliant mate. I can see the efforts spent on the thought process behind the reply, leave typing the whole damn thing. Thanks a lot for sparing time to share your ideas and suggestions. I can see the urge to save another sinking “NO WC” team. I’ll do the same to anyone else as well, if asked.
I totally agree with your suggestions above. This is how it should go for me-
        Play 6-7 players in BGW31.
        Play FH32 with all DGWers.
Get the BGW31 team back for blank 33.
Try to set team for DGW35 and play BB. But, here, I’d lose a lot as I won’t have many DGWers, especially on the bench.
But still, DGW35 has Pool playing against Cardiff, Chelsea have Burnley at home. So, might not necessarily need all DGWers then either as Salah/Hazard/Mane could score a brace then as well.
Lot’s of possibilities still. That’s the beauty of this game. Still, cheers for the support mate and I shall be around for any suggestions,if needed.

Absolutely superb HL. If we could put that on a poster to advertise how much help some are willing to give to others in our community we would!

Must admit I lost interest after paragraph 2 myself laugh But I’m sure it’s invaluable to Constant given yours and his slightly unique circumstances.

    Hi all,

I’ve got 2FTs and 0.3m ITB this week. Planning on doing a couple of moves to help with a GW 31 and 33 team.

    My thoughts were:

    – Pogba / Son to Mane and;
    – Rashford to Rondon / Wilson / King

Do you think that’s wise? Which combo would you pick?

The Rashford downgrade is the enabler here as otherwise I don’t have the cash.

    Thanks in advance!

    • 16.1
      Horse says:

Hi Beno. What’s your chip situation? Do you have any money ‘saved up’ in Pogba Rashford Son Jimmy or Doherty or other players as you may want to buy them back later for the DGWs?

      • beno1234 says:

I’ve got them all so planning to FH in 32, WC in 34 and BB 35 with the TC coming in a single GW.

I only have a little saved up in these players as admitedly i got on the bandwagons too late! Tops of 0.2 for each player really (difference between current price and selling price)

        • Horse says:

Very nice Beno. So it’s really GW31 and 33 that are the priority.

I know this is a bit left field. You could take a 4 point hit this GW and make three transfers or you could probably split the transfer up over GW weeks.
Liverpool look good at the back so instead of Mane how about getting TAA in for Doherty.
Son to Hazard. How much would you have left to spend if you also sold Pogba?

        • beno1234 says:

Interesting – i had thought of TAA instead of Mane as well.

If I sold Pogba I would have 6.8m left. If I sold Rashford I would have 5.5m.

(wary of Hazard as he has burned me a few times this season)

Note that I can’t bring Hazard in unless I downgrade someone first to free up the cash.

    • 16.2
      Horse says:

Hazard can be annoying can’t he? smile

I have not watched a great deal of the Premier League. There are plenty on here who are more up to speed than me.
But I would be tempted to go
Doherty, Son Pogba -> TAA Hazard and say Brooks for a -4 this GW
Then Rashford -> Vardy next GW

      Love a BGW/DGW me!

      #inforapenny

      • Kralin says:

I think your -4 suggestion is a good idea. I’ve been pondering something similar myself, 3 players in this week, reasoning it should pay off over GW31/33.

Just deciding over Maddison v Brooks/Fraser and Vardy v Higuain.

I like the fact we’re at the sharp end now. What everything’s been leading up to.

        • beno1234 says:

Yeah I could do TAA, brooks and Vardy this week. Play Son against Southampton then move him on next week for hazard

Is hazard a better way to go than mane though hmm

evening everybody! hope all is well around here.

Current team is below and have 4 players for GW31. initially was planning to FH in GW31 and use the next few transfers to be semi-ready for gw32.

I am now thinking the FH would be best for DGW32. I will have 3FT before the deadline so that could make it 7 GW31 players if i go with this route and most likely taking one additional hit to have 8 active players.

What do you reckon its the best route to go with the FH chip? how are you guys planning the chip strategy in the next few GW’s?

    any advice is welcome.

    • 18.1
      constantine says:

@kevthezed- I don’t think playing FH31 is the right way to go. Not only for your team, but anyone else’s as well. It has the most mundane of fixtures and I don’t see a very high scoring week there either. If we can manage 7-8 players or even 6-7, that should be fine. Anyways we’ll have only those 7 players, who we think will score the best. There’s high chance of managers playing FH31 getting those players also. We might lose 15-20 points that week, but that could be covered-up in the DGW32.

Also, I’d play Jota nexr week in place of Richarlison.

    • 18.2
      kevthezed says:

hey constantine. thanks for your honest opinion and advice. i will try to plan it so that the FH is used in GW32 and get 8 players involved for GW31 and ensure they also play in GW33. still have a WC to play and plan to use that in gw34.

Do you feel richie is not good enough to score against newcastle away? wolves got chelsea away so i am not keen on playing both jota and jimenez but could do so if I feel he might be a better option than richie.

dunk ahead of doherty – not a bad idea. palace and brighton play each other this week so does it make sense to have both AWB and dunk in the starting 11? I did think about shaw but dont fancy him doing much against arsenal tbh.
