Fantasy Football FF247 Team Game-week 21
Last GW we were sitting at 966 points and felt the sting of not having those two sixes at the end, upside down. So naturally we scored 33 and made it to our desired number of 999. You can choose to believe that or not, but that’s our story and we are tentatively sticking to it. Our score of 33 was 7 below the average and it landed our GW ranking at 2.6 million and something, but who is counting anyway? After that interesting score, we of course got visited by the guest of honour, Mr. Red Arrow. We now sit at 1.1 million and feel that the five monkeys we have hired to take over the site team, can’t possibly do any worse than the five monkeys that were in charge. So please welcome our new team staff as they look to better the extremely low bar, well saying there is a bar at all is probably giving the team committee too much credit.
GW20 in summary
Usually our defence plays less inspired than our captaincy choices, but this past GW they were at least respectable. With Morgan and Bellerin grabbing clean sheets, we felt like the point tally could be promising. Yeah right…as has now become custom something else went wrong and by something, we mean everything else. Our mids averaged 2 points for a total of eight points and that is when you include the captaincy that we trusted in Mahrez. Our forwards were not much better, although Vardy should have at least grabbed an assist on the penalty, if not for our dear captain missing it. Kane took the day off and Lukaku once again left us feeling that it could have been a ton more, but at least he grabbed an assist for a total of five points. Let’s move onto our transfers for the upcoming game-week so you know which player or players to stay away from.
Transfer/s decision for GW21 – we have sold Aaron Ramsey and Alberto Moreno and bought Delle Alli and Angel Rangel
Now, on the surface the transfers seem fairly straightforward. However, what preceeded them was a decision to wildcard our sorry lot of misfits and two days of wrangling, arguing, toy throwing, laughing, crying, resignations, (reluctant) reinstatements only to end up with a new team that frankly was bang on template, but we had Kun. So the decision was taken (it was about the only thing we did agree on) not to wildcard just to get Kun and a whole load of other high-ownership players. Sure we want Kun but we can do without him this week and the plan is to sell Harry Kane for him with our free transfer for GW22. In the meantime we needed to raise cash. Buying the inform Delle Alli for Ramsey ensures us attacking Spurs coverage for when Kane departs, while Swansea have Sunderland at home in GW21 and gives us immediate improvement (on paper) for this week – the Swans also have some decent fixtures going forward and Rangel seems to be favoured by caretaker manager Alan Curtis. He’s also lovely and cheap at just 4.1mln.

Our team in full…

Captain – Kevin de Bruyne
KDB sneaked the vote, pipping Harry Kane 4-2, primarily on the back of his home form this season, where he has delivered double digit returns on four occassions and showed his form on Saturday in the Cup when he came off the bench to score at Norwich. C’mon Ginge, we need you now, more than ever.
Our vice-captain is Harry Kane
If KDB for one reason or another doesn’t feature then Kane will take the armband.

So I jumped on Payet early and used my FT before the cup matches… but now I’m debating aguero !
Would anyone consider -8 to bring Aguero in? I could do a -4 and swap out Kane however I want to keep him so would transfer out Lukaku. This would leave me with a strike force of Aguero, Kane & Igahlo. I could play wildcard but tempted to save that for later. Thoughts ? X
Hi, no! For a -8 he’d have to score twice to repay it and that’s assuming Lukaku does nothing against a suspect City defence. I’d take Kane ahead him on a -4 too against a suspect Leicester defence!
Agree with Init here.
+2 Kun for -4 is doable; -8 seems to much.
Hey fellas, how goes the tinkering?? So the pressers being tomorrow kind of throws me off, I was hoping we’d have more info today. I’m basically in the same pickle as last night trying to figure out if I should sacrifice Kolarov or Walcott to fund Vardy to Aguero. If anyone has an opinion I’d love to hear it! Everything is really hinging on Lukaku for me this week, as I’d rather hang onto Walcott and use him as my 1st sub to play if Lukaku is unlikely to be fit. It Lukaku should start I’d be happy to axe Theo and hang onto Kolarov for now.
Bonus question: I’m thinking about 5th midfielders to replace Theo with (I’ll be using Alli as my 4th mid most weeks). Is it worth it to spend a little extra to get someone like Antonio (5.2) who I could play now and again, or should I save as much as possible and grab someone like Stanislas/Gosling/Watson so there’s zero selection headache each week? Thanks as always for any help!
All this talk of getting rid of Kolorov seems premature to me. I wouldn’t go bringing him or Sagna in on a WC right now, but if I had them I wouldn’t be dropping them until Pellegrini starts rotating them. I regret ever letting Kolorov off my team. I had him from he beginning and got rid of him when he was “injured” but then he played and has been like a knife in the back many weeks :/
I think it should be (and still may be for me too this week) Wally and Vardy -> Kun and Gosling. Those are the only moves I’m really giving any serious thought to for Kun this week.
Thanks Pancho, I appreciate your thoughts on it. I think hanging onto Kolarov would be preferable too, I just don’t want to paint myself into a corner because if Lukaku is unable to play on Wednesday then I’d be forced to throw on my newly acquired (and most likely crap) 5th midfielder, or play a 4-4-2. That’s kind of why I’m thinking about going with Antonio as he’s been on fire the past few matches and so have West Ham. I don’t mind spending a little extra so my 5th mid is actually dangerous, but I don’t want to have 8 expensive premium players and a selection headache either. I haven’t seen much of Gosling, do you rate him over Stanislas? Whenever I’ve seen Bournemouth play Stanislas has looked dangerous, just wondering about his playing time going forward with their new signings I guess.
Yeah, GP actually talked me off of Stan/Watson and onto the Gosling train. Gosling has a few goals and assists and some bonus (even 2 for a game he didn’t score or assist in). I currently have the cursor hovering over the transfer button with Wally/Vardy/Lukaku -> Gosling/Ighalo/Lukaku for a -4. I’d rather be able to do Vardy and Wally to Kun and a cheapie, but the math just isn’t working :/
*gulp*
My money is where my mouth is though Pancho. That’s all you can ask, right? 😉
That’s right GP! I got DDG after my holiday fixtures article just so nobody could cause me of not following my own advice
I just saw this Pancho and GP, so I apologize for one last question on the subject. But what were your reservations with Stanislas, as he’s .2 cheaper than Gosling? Is it playing time? Or do you just rate Gosling more? Thanks and good luck to you both!
Red
I feel he is a little less at risk with the new signings. And he has some good stats too.
Red, I think they could give Iturbw the chance to show what he’s got right off th bat and that could be bad news for The Slas (Stani). If I had a few weeks to see how it panned out then I may go a different direction, but the uncertainty over playing time for Junior leads me in another direction.
I’m actually leaning toward Barry ATM.
Barry?? Oi vey, come on now Pancho! You guys had me settled on either Stanislas or Gosling. You can’t be throwing me curve balls with the price change deadline approaching, I need to sort this out soon!
Here’s a stat Red – just to mess you a lit bit more. And don’t get me going on the form for mids with a max price of 4.4 one…
Yeah, you can’t argue with Stanislas’ stats really, he always looks dangerous. In the end I need a guy that’s definitely nailed though so I went with the safer pick for now. Hopefully I won’t have to play him unless its’ an emergency anyway, but it’s nice having a 1st sub that’s not completely useless. Thanks for looking that up DMC, cheers!
Hi Red, if it’s any help at all Ben Dinnery has said today (about 25 times in fact!) that Martinez is “quietly confident Lukaku will play”. That suggests he’s been told something but can’t say. I’d go along with that as I’ve maintained from the moment it happened that it was nothing. Bloke made a heck of a run into the box for the winner on said sore ankle so it wasn’t that bad at the time and we will be a week on from that come Wednesday. That comes from someone with a long and painful history of ankle injuries too! If it’s twisted it’s too painful to get up and do that. It was a knock at best.
Thanks Init, you’ve reassured me (again, lol) about Lukaku. And since that’s your club I should probably listen!
Now I just need to pick a 5th mid and get on with it before the price changes tonight.
Red I was about to say I’d still wait for the presser but as you need to do it then I’d crack on assuming he’s fit because I wouldn’t even be surprised if Martinez was noncommittal on the matter given how key he is. City would alter their plans if they knew he was out and Kone had to play up top. They’d alter them to plan B – destroy Everton
Red
Hi mate. The higher you go on the fifth midfielder the more likely you are to give yourself a selection dilemma.
Cheap as you can and distribute the savings.
Thanks Gallant, I definitely don’t want a selection headache or wasted money just sat on the bench every week. But it definitely seems with all the standout budget players this year I’m always flush with cash! What do you think about Stanislas? Is he a risk with this new chap Iturbe coming onto the scene? I don’t know much about Gosling, Stanislas is the only guy I remember being impressed with in their midfield (other than Ritchie on occasion).
Red
I’m not actually sure how AFCB will now line up. Might need to see on this one. I think Gosling is central in midfield and he’ll be OK but no guarantees.
OK, that’s fair enough. Thanks for your thoughts Gallant, much appreciated as always. Best of luck this week, hope your team takes care of business!
Red – my view is cheap as possible 5th mid. I’d sacrifice Walcott myself.
Thanks Dreamers. Who do you like for 5th mid options?
Good ol’ Fletcher for me Red
Hey Red, just seen this. What I’ve read here the past few days about Stan is that is place may be at risk with Iturbe (with an odd price tag of 5.7) being added to the squad (from Roma). My take on that is that Iturbe is not really a winger, which stan is, and prefers to play as num. 10 (in the hole), something he never quite achieved in European football (starting in Porto). As a winger, he’s not bad (if he’s allowed space to get in the middle) but I’m not so sure he’ll get strait in the first XI. Also, he has a working permit issue so he may be a bit far from being ready. That all being said he will now get a hatty coming from the bench against WH of course…
Also consider that I may be a bit bias given that I got Stan in this week for Wally (to make funds to do Watmore-KUN!!!).
You kept this Watmore purchase / ownership awfully quiet! Actually think he’s one of the more exciting young prospects in the league. Dynamic and direct, just needs time to develop. A relegation battling team with Big Sam in charge probably isn’t that environment just now though!
Sshhhhh!! ::): I got him in on my late first half of the season WC! That seems long a go, but was actually 5 GW ago, before the xmas period. He was 4.3 at the time and I sold him now for 4.2. And that was his contribution to my team…
But, yeah, I get what you mean and that was the reason I got him in just in case rotation on the hectic period would affect any of the other front 7. Played 3-5-2 during those weeks and was happy about it. I was going to keep him actually but then concluded that there was a path to LuKankun with Stan if I dropped Ramsey (a shame really, had great plans for him) and Wally (a one week capo punt).
I still think watmore could be a good purchase come season end, a bit like whickam two seasons back or so.
Lol Yeah figured he was a 3-5-2 jobby. I got caught on the Wally 1 week punt too and he’s still hanging around like a bad smell! Might not be saying that come Wednesday if he rips Liverpool to shreds but that’s more wishful thinking than reality and that’s unless I can contrive a plan this evening that sees him leave!
He might come good init – he did assist someone for the cup game at the weekend. I guess it depends on your Payet-Kun moves. I did Wally-Payet strait away and then the other two moves for Kun after the norwich game, but wally could do something here, specially knowing that he didn’t for the past 3. If you don’t think payet is ready and don’t have any other must mids you want I’d probably hold that card! Maybe. Either that, or get Stanislas!!
Way my lucks been the last few months I’d be as well getting Iturbe, stood at customs waving his visa
Haha, fair enough DMC! I’ve read similar things but for some reason I’m still drawn to Stanislas as he’s looked dangerous and exciting when I’ve watched Bournemouth play. I suppose it doesn’t much matter if he’s going to ride the bench most weeks, I think I only had to play my previous 5th mid Hoolahan once or twice in the first half of the season.
PS- I saw you mention above that you had 2 kids, how old are they? Thanks again for the advice and good luck this week!
I now have three! A boy that will turn 3 years old in May and a girl (cliché…)) that will turn six months in a few days! The third being Stanislas!! Ahahaha
And yes, I got the basement issue covered!
Haha, nice one DMC! Our first, a little boy, just turned 4 months old on the 6th. I’m definitely liking things better now that he’s not a newborn and I don’t feel like I’m going to break him every time I pick him up, lol.
That’s really great man, congratulations to you and the Mrs.
Cheers Red – Yeah our lives are surely much better with them. It’s such a joy. Specially when you have to change their dippers!!! eheheh just kiddin, there are no words actually it’s just pure love and fun and challenging at the same time but always in a positive way, including those damn dippers!
I know you do man I was here when you posted that first pick. He will soon start saying that you’ll never walk alone and all that (or that’s what you will hear anyway!!)! Keep it up mate!
Wil we get any lineups tomorrow before the deadline?
Not in theory mate. Deadlines 1 hour prior to all KO’s and teams come out exactly 1 hour prior to KO’s. The outlier here is Man Utd because of that account that’s been consistently leaking the team. I will be sure to retweet it when he does and point it out on here.
Only the Villa,Bournemouth and Newcastle games……..
Serioulsy? Coutinho dropping again tonight? I mean, FFS! Let there be a fucking limit, bitches.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G4jnaznUoQ
How the hell did I type Coutinho when I meant Vardy? No seriously, how? Names not even close and I don’t even have Coutinho. It’s obvious I can’t multi-task. ^^
Klopp is getting to your mind raz; you want coutinho, you know you want him. Go on and buy him, you need him. And you want him.
