Fantasy Football FF247 Team Game-week 4

Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 20.10.48Another week and another meh performance. While we did get that coveted green arrow, it wasn’t anything to write home about. We jumped a bit over 230k spots and ended up in a very unrespectable 2,723,655 in the overall. Oh well, could have been worse I guess, yeah it really could have. In the end our four point hit gave us a net positive of 1 point, after we total the points of the players sold as well as the players brought in and we deduct the hit. In the end the moves were not just about one week as the buying of Alexis and in particular Aguero are in our long term plans. Mahrez who facilitated the moves because of his price contributed the best score of our game-week. Because of his price and amazing production, he is a key piece to the team, a bit like Kane was last season.

At this point we can see many a player that we wish we could transfer out, but we want to show restraint and hold that wildcard. It was always our thought to at least make it until the International break, before we contemplated using it. We will continue to monitor the transfer market and see if anymore Pedro type signings occur and that coupled with the shape of our team will guide us in finding the best possible time to activate our WC.

So now onto our transfer plans and team selection for the upcoming GW.

Transfer(s) for GW4 Sold Mane, Bought Yaya Toure

Before we explain the reasoning behind our transfer we should mention that as things currently stand we intend to activate our wildcard after this weekend’s games. Should our team turn in an impressive performance this weekend we will of course reconsider this decision, but given performances to date that is unlikely!

With our wildcard looming we are in a position to take a one week punt on a player. Although given Yaya’s form to date it can hardly be described as a punt! Mane & Southampton have been a disappointment to date so we’ve decided to cut him loose this week. He was on the bench for the Saints on Thursday night and despite the fact that they were in desperate need of a goal he wasn’t thrown into the action. This suggests that his injury is worse than we were led to believe or he’s not in the right frame of mind given the interest in him from United. Thanks for the five points Sadio! Watford haven’t been the shambles at the back that many expected them to be but we just can’t ignore City’s form and therefore we’ve drafted in Yaya to go with Sterling & Aguero…odds on a scoreless draw at The Etihad?!!

Team Selection

We have decided to start Per Mertesacker this week in the hope that he makes the Arsenal starting XI, although with this highly unlikely we expect Coates to climb off the bench! Reece Oxford wasn’t even considered so he’ll occupy 3rd spot on the bench. The big decision this week was the choice between Milner & Sakho. We went with Milner on the basis that Liverpool are at home, while Sakho only seems interested in attacking his mrs!!

Captain

Our captain this week is Sergio Aguero

Our vice-captain is Riyad Mahrez

Play Huth as 4th defender or Houlihan as 4th midfielder? Have Wilson up front but also have Pelle? Aguero is my Captain!!

This is the team as it stands, depay gets last chance before Chelsea cover comes in, thinking get rid of Pelle and leaves funds for Pedro and maybe Aguero for -4 next week?

Hey guys, who would you prefer as your 4th midfielder, Payet away to Liverpool or Hoolahan away to Southampton?

Other option is getting Pedro in for Payet for a -4 hit and playing him on his home debut against Palace.

Anything jumping out at you? I’m very tempted to get Pedro in now for a hit but I’m not sure that’s smart as I do have a healthy squad. I’ll be screwed if he goes up as I can just barely afford it, but according to FFF and FPL Stats he shouldn’t rise tonight.

Howdy Red, can’t believe we’ve both stayed strong all week laugh Just a few more hours til bed mate, we can do it! I wouldn’t be surprised at all for Pedro to hit double figures tomorrow though so wouldn’t blame you at all if you caved.

He really shouldn’t rise tonight, it just shouldn’t be possible in a single day… The good thing for us is Chelsea play tomorrow and not Sun/Mon, so we get to see him play again before getting him in on a whim. Will be bad transferring him out for Depay though only to watch Depay hit form 2 days later haha.

I’ll be playing Payet, but then I don’t have your weekly selection headache. Still would opt for him if I were you though.

      • RedVT says:

Haha, totally Calvin! Fighting with myself over taking a -4 right right up until the deadline- glad to hear you’ve held your nerve (so far) too!

I’m literally of 3 minds over it all. As a Liverpool supporter I’m just waiting to be disappointed and I know this solid defensive start will soon crumble to bits and the leaky, embarrassing ‘Pool defense will show up any time. Start Payet.

But I got a halfway decent 5th midfielder for a reason, I mean- why have him at all if I can’t field him once in a while?? Norwich have looked dangerous and up for scoring goals, and Southampton just got knocked out of the Europa league and are tired and demoralized. Start Hoolahan.

And then there’s the fancy new guy who was the stand out player last week, in his first match at home in front of the adoring Chelsea faithful, the Champions of England, and in a team packed with superstars. And allllll I need to do to get him and eliminate this selection headache is to take a teeny weeny, itsy bitsy little 4 point hit… GET PEDRO!!

Oi vey, this game makes me mental each and every week. And I love it. laugh

        • Calvin Clyne says:

I’m all farmisht myself, you nearly convinced me to do it with that second-last sentence!

I think you should maybe go for it if you are considering benching Payet anyway.. Part of what pains me about taking the hit is I have liked the look of Payet so far and think he could produce the goods, but I wouldn’t be so hesitant about losing someone I’m happy enough to bench.

Do hear you re. Hoolahan, I’ve just been bitten too often by leaving points on the bench! I tried to be clever and play the BOU/WHU rotation, playing Gradel and benching Payet in GW1, and Payet got an assist away to Arsenal and Gradel played quarter of an hour.. So after the WC I just got Watmore to be done with it! Hoolahan could definitely do well at home, but so could Payet…!

        • RedVT says:

I do like Payet Calvin, and I brought him in with my WC for a reason. West Ham have 2-3 forwards injured, which limits his appeal a bit, but they also have Andy Carroll about to return, and who better to get on the end of some crosses than that tall Geordie maniac?

I was thinking WH had a pretty sweet schedule but I discussed it with GP this morning, who is admittedly a pretty big admirer of Payet, and even he supported dropping him for Pedro (either for a hit now or next week for free). Basically said he’s class and I’d want him in at some point anyway, and I currently have no Chelsea cover.

I suppose the smart thing would be to wait and watch the matches on Saturday like you said above, then we can see Pedro again and also see Payet vs Liverpool. I’m going to keep Hoolahan regardless, it’s just a matter of who starts this week and whether or not to pull the trigger on Pedro now for a hit.

Hoolahan with essentially +4 points for not taking a hit doesn’t sound too bad vs. Pedro’s potential points for 1 match… yet I’m still tempted to gamble and get him now, lol. Go figure! laugh

Did you make any moves this week or are you saving up to have 2 FT over the break?

        • Calvin Clyne says:

I would love Pedro too. I want 7 or 8 mids mate haha. But yes I have held onto my FT this week. I’ll be honest though, it’s only because my first transfer for whichever move I make needs to be a downgrade as I have 0 in the bank smile So it doesn’t seem worth it unless I make 2 or 3 transfers if you get me, and it’s that that’s held me off.

Can tell it’ll go down to the wire with you, so be interesting to see what you’ve ended up going with tomorrow!

        • RedVT says:

Yep, saving your FT is smart planning Calvin. Who knows, something may happen over the IB which makes the choice of who to sell to raise funds pretty straightforward for you.

I kept 1.5 mil ITB after my WC so I’d have some options and with an eye to get Silva if needed, so all I had to do this week was squeeze .5 from someplace. And as soon as I heard about Clichy being injured I dropped Kompany for Kolarov and got that sorted.

Now it’s just a question of the hit or not, and watching Pedro highlight vids on youtube probably isn’t the wisest choice for a guy trying his damnedest to exercise some self-control!! laugh

Anyway, thanks as always for the chat, best of luck to you this weekend, hope you score some big points! smile

By the way, quite new here but has me intrigued everytime I log on, amazing how many different views can be had on a game of football, keep posting and best of luck to everyone for this weekend, Hat trick for Kun would help me climb my league seeing as I have resisted Mahrez up to now?surely he can’t keep it up or maybe he will be similar to Fellini in his Everton days and just keep scoring/assisting every game week..Thoughts??

    • 17.1
      Calvin Clyne says:

That’s exactly what made me get Mahrez after he did well again in GW2 – look at Michu, Ramsey, Kane, Yaya, Fellaini as you mentioned.. Certainly many players score well a few times but will soon peter out, but after seeing him each game so far he does look the real deal.

Nothing worse than hoping someone everyone else has fails only for them to keep on getting returns smile

    Nosaj says:

Hey guys, this is my team for this GW. I have 1FT and 0mil itb, after WC’ing last week, and I’m thinking of holding my transfer. Also, have I got the right players on the field and my bench in the right order? Thoughts?

    • 18.1
      Calvin Clyne says:

Hi Nosaj, yeah keep your FT. I’m playing Gomez over Richards myself but up to you there – can definitely see why you’d go for Richards. Bit risky though with Guzan there too though.

I’ve got a soft spot for Payet so would play him over Wilson, but most people would tell you to keep it like it is (probably sensibly!).

    • 18.2
      RedVT says:

      Hey Nosaj,

I’d echo Calvin’s thought about starting Gomez over Richards to cut down on your risk with Guzan in goal already.

I’d leave the rest as you have it and bank that FT for the 2 week break. Best of luck this weekend!
