Fantasy Football FF247 Team Game-week 4

Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 20.10.48Another week and another meh performance. While we did get that coveted green arrow, it wasn’t anything to write home about. We jumped a bit over 230k spots and ended up in a very unrespectable 2,723,655 in the overall. Oh well, could have been worse I guess, yeah it really could have. In the end our four point hit gave us a net positive of 1 point, after we total the points of the players sold as well as the players brought in and we deduct the hit. In the end the moves were not just about one week as the buying of Alexis and in particular Aguero are in our long term plans. Mahrez who facilitated the moves because of his price contributed the best score of our game-week. Because of his price and amazing production, he is a key piece to the team, a bit like Kane was last season.

At this point we can see many a player that we wish we could transfer out, but we want to show restraint and hold that wildcard. It was always our thought to at least make it until the International break, before we contemplated using it. We will continue to monitor the transfer market and see if anymore Pedro type signings occur and that coupled with the shape of our team will guide us in finding the best possible time to activate our WC.

So now onto our transfer plans and team selection for the upcoming GW.

Transfer(s) for GW4 Sold Mane, Bought Yaya Toure

Before we explain the reasoning behind our transfer we should mention that as things currently stand we intend to activate our wildcard after this weekend’s games. Should our team turn in an impressive performance this weekend we will of course reconsider this decision, but given performances to date that is unlikely!

With our wildcard looming we are in a position to take a one week punt on a player. Although given Yaya’s form to date it can hardly be described as a punt! Mane & Southampton have been a disappointment to date so we’ve decided to cut him loose this week. He was on the bench for the Saints on Thursday night and despite the fact that they were in desperate need of a goal he wasn’t thrown into the action. This suggests that his injury is worse than we were led to believe or he’s not in the right frame of mind given the interest in him from United. Thanks for the five points Sadio! Watford haven’t been the shambles at the back that many expected them to be but we just can’t ignore City’s form and therefore we’ve drafted in Yaya to go with Sterling & Aguero…odds on a scoreless draw at The Etihad?!!

Our team in full…

Team Selection

We have decided to start Per Mertesacker this week in the hope that he makes the Arsenal starting XI, although with this highly unlikely we expect Coates to climb off the bench! Reece Oxford wasn’t even considered so he’ll occupy 3rd spot on the bench. The big decision this week was the choice between Milner & Sakho. We went with Milner on the basis that Liverpool are at home, while Sakho only seems interested in attacking his mrs!!

Captain

Our captain this week is Sergio Aguero

Our vice-captain is Riyad Mahrez

    Evening chaps.
Trying to finalise the ol WC team. This is what i’ve got so far…
I’m starting to doubt whether having two players that will soon need replacing (Myhill and Targett) is a good idea.

      RedVT says:

Hey Chins, that’s a strong looking side. What’s your idea with having a 5.5 guy on the bench? Will you be rotating Redmond with Wilson or something?

I might consider dropping him down to Hoolahan at 5.0 which would give you the funds to upgrade Targett to 4.5 defender that’s not a rotation risk.

And I think having Myhill or McCarthy is fine, but I don’t think I’d want a WC team where both keepers could find themselves benched in the coming weeks. McCarthy may very well keep his place, but that’s a bit of a gamble to take. You could drop your 5th mid to a 4.5 guy like Westwood and have money for 2 rotating 4.5 keepers AND sort Targett out if you want…

I also read some posts about Muniesa being more nailed than Cameron at Stoke, but I don’t really know for sure. Just repeating what I read on the boards.

Really like that midfield and those forwards. smile

      Calvin Clyne says:

Butland over Myhill solves that problem straight away smile Though not with Cameron there.. I’d lose him anyway as I think he’s the most likely to make way after Shawcross comes back. And yeah Targett is surely a bad idea too, really annoyed with myself for getting him last GW.

Solved easily enough if you don’t have a pricy bench player – you’ll probably have some painful moments in the coming GWs with one of Wilson and Redmond on the bench.

Cheeky re-post for anyone still up…

We’ve got 5/6 so far… So need 4 more, for a 10 team Fantasy NFL draft league. Guaranteed fun.

    ****CALLING ALL NFL FANS****

Completely unrelated to my appalling start to the FPL season, i was thinking that if i can get enough interest, then i’d set up a draft NFL fantasy league for any FF247 regulars that are interested. We’d need at least 8 players to make it worth while. – Ideally we’d get 10 or 12.

If you’re interested, please email me: iaingrant79@hotmail.com

It’s a draft format, which means we’d need to do an actual draft (ie. we take it in turns picking which players we have on our squad – No one NFL player can be on more than 1 team). The draft date would probably be at some point between Thursday 3rd and Sunday 6th September. – We’d find a date that worked best for everyone.

Anyway. I’ll re-post this a few times over the next week or so, and if we get the numbers then it’ll be a goer. (And i did my first one last season, knowing absolutely nothing about NFL. It’s great fun. And a relatively short season. – All done by early new year.)

    Cheers.

Very cool that you’re running a fantasy NFL league Chins! But even at the risk of losing my citizenship and being kicked out of the country I still don’t watch the throwball all that much.

I’ve got just about all I can handle fretting over my FPL team all week, keeping the wife happy, and getting ready for diaper duty. Hope you guys get enough people to do it though, I have lots of friends who really get into that shit. My brother just went to Foxwoods Resort Casino with all his buddies for their draft this past weekend, they do it up big each year and have a lot of fun.

      • chins says:

That sounds great Red! (The Vegas bit. Not the shitty nappies)

No problem re not playing mate. I mean, if we can’t even count on the yanks to make the numbers up, then what hope do we have eh? It’ll probably mean we don’t quite get enough players and i’ll have to let everyone down but, y’know, if you’ve got a whole FPL team to manage, and don’t have time, then… well…. i’m sure everyone will understand….

What’s that?? You’ve had a change of heart?? Great news! Just drop me an email to confirm you’re in! I knew you wouldn’t let us down Red. (Despite what Calvin said).

        😉

Yo Chins lad, not interested in NFL (although big news over here about Haines possibly making it even though he is an Ozzie!?) but I am interested in your wildcard, hows it looking?

      • chins says:

Is that the guy on the 49ers Special teams? If so, i saw him return a punt in pre season. It was frikkin funny. Instead of looking for gaps like most returners do, he ran straight at the opposition and started handing players off!! The commentators were loving it. If that was anything to go by, he’ll be a big hit.

Re. WC… this is what i have currently…

        • Hi Chins (said in special voice!), yup that sounds like the guy, made a stupid amount of yards or something.

I like the team (mainly because its similar to mine!!) I personally would try to sneak Silva instead of Yaya but appreciate that is difficult. Not sure on Teke/Francis/Martin but at there price, what else are you going to find?!

        • Calvin Clyne says:

The 49ers stadium is a mile away from our apartment, I call dibs on that guy smile

        • chins says:

Yeah mate, i’m not a fan either. But like you say, i don’t have a lot of cash left. And i’d love SIlva instead of Yaya, but i’m no where near being able to afford that.

I’m not a fan of having Benteke in my team at all. But they do have nice fixtures and he looked good the other night. I’d prefer Gomis, but i’m too scared to go without Liverpool attacking coverage. Or am i…. Dammit. Now i’m having a wobble!!

        • How much does Teke to Gomis save you? How much would you have entitle in the bank then?

        • chins says:

Calvin, we have a week and a few days to get 5 more players. – I’ve got a couple of guys that might play. – I was hoping we could get to 10 from the regulars on site. But if it gets to Thursday and we’re still short, then maybe we widen the net. It would be a shame for it not to happen.

        • chins says:

Getting Gomis would save me 1.2m and get me to 1.4m ITB. Not sure it’s worth it. Especially with Liverpool having 3 easy ones in their next 4.

        • Probably right mate, i was wondering if it would get you Silva?

        • chins says:

AAaaaaarrrgghh.. It DOES get me Silva.

Damn damn damn. Last minute panic time…

          Yaya/Benteke vs Silva/Gomis.

Fixtures says Y/B. But i prefer Silva and Gomis.

        • I have Gomis/Silva and certainly prefer that. Flip a coin lad.

        • Josh721 says:

Chins! I like that wildcard team. I’m actually on a WC as well… haha just couldn’t resist. By the way, I prefer Silva/Gomis also. And is there no way to include a better mid instead of Westwood? Like Redmond?

        • chins says:

Coin flip it is. But if it’s Gomis, i’m going to be hiding behind the sofa for the next 4 weeks when Liverpool are on TV. And that’s not just because i can’t stand to look at Rogers smug chops. (It’s because i’ll be scared that Benteke will score lots. But you got that already.)

Josh – Let’s see your WC effort mate.

        • Calvin Clyne says:

The difference for me is the bonus points. Gomis has 3 goals and not a single 1, whereas Benteke has 1 goal and scooped all 3. He’s way more involved.

        • Josh721 says:

Here’s where I’m at right now:

          Butland, McCarthy
          Kolarov, Shaw, Gomez, Souare, Cathcart
Sanchez, Pedro, Ayew (Andre, on Swansea), Mahrez, Redmond
          Aguero, Benteke, Wilson.

Have nothing in the bank after this. Mainly worried about McCarthy since Speroni will be back soon I guess. I feel like I might be spending a little much on the defense, but I’ve had Shaw since the start and he’s done me well. And Kolarov is yet to concede and there aren’t too many budget defenders showing up just yet. I guess I could just ride the Targett train until Bertrand comes back and take out Souare?

        • chins says:

Coin flip done. Yaya/Benteke it is.

To be fair, i didn’t assign either to heads or tails, but it landed on heads and i thought whoever it was looked more like Benteke than Gomis, so i took that to be a sign. Job done.

Thanks for your help though lads. This team approach to picking a team is great fun. We should try and get that going across the whole site. Maybe have a community team or something….

        • chins says:

Interesting team Josh. – It shows how much stronger my defense could be if i only went with Aguero as my city coverage.

I’m not sure about Souare or Cathcart.

I think i’d prefer Ward over Souare. But i admit there’s not much in it.

Cathcart is a little surprising. – I’ve not really looked at them so far – I’m guessing the Watford fixtures rotate well with the rest of your defense?

I’ll give you the same feedback that i received when i posted my WC team earlier today – Why have so much cash tied up in a bench player (presumably Redmond in most instances)? I looked out for the next 10 weeks and realized that i probably wouldn’t start him more than once. So i took him out.

        • Josh721 says:

Yeah Watford’s fixtures don’t look too bad after the City game this weekend. As for Redmond, I always like having players that are likely to get me at least some points instead of the usual 2. Just in case of injuries, tough games, or simple rotation. And it gives me an extra option if one of my players is really out of form and I haven’t been able to transfer them out yet. Do you think someone like Sinclair would be better then?

        • chins says:

Tough call Josh. I actually started the season with Sinclair in my team. I like him as a player. From preseason and a few appearances, i think he’s looked good, and i think he’ll continue to improve as his game time and confidence increases. But Redmond is a good shout too. – Someone suggested Hoolahan earlier to me as an alternative to Redmond. A bit cheaper.

If you’re wanting more than a 2 pointer on your bench, then i don’t think you can go far wrong with any of the three names above.

      • chins says:

Hi! – Btw. Sorry. Forgot that bit. smile

    Neo says:

    Feedback please!

Realised the team is quite similar to Chins! Bloody hell mate you made me think so much over whether to have Gomis/Benteke also because as a Liverpool fan I can see him scoring crazy amounts in the next few weeks!

One possibility is that I would downgrade Kompany to Kolarov, and then upgrade Bacuna to Clyne, giving me some Liverpool coverage! Thoughts?

    • 21.1
      chins says:

      Hi Neo,

Can’t believe you don’t have Benteke in your team!! 😉

Seriously though mate, i’d definitely move Kompany to Kolarov like you say, and probably Bacuna to Richards to free up more cash.
I had Naughton in my team (he’s gone now) so i can see the appeal of Swansea coverage. But on closer inspection, i’ve ditched him and brought in a Stoke defender instead. Their fixtures are better i think. Seeing as you have Butland already, you could replace Taylor with Louvren or Gomez. – Liverpool have nice fixtures like you say. Not sure Clyne is worth the extra.0.5m.

Up top, we have too much choice. Any two from Benteke, Gomis, Wilson, Diouf to partner Aguero, and you can’t be too wrong.

      Good luck!! smile
