Fantasy Football FF247 Team Gameweek 22

Wow. It’s tough at the top! Despite registering a respectable 69 (-4) and outscoring the average by 13 points we still managed to slip back 332 places overall to find ourselves in 1,976th. We blame Hazard. And Sanchez. Although we owned both. More on those two scampsters later.  We very nearly wildcarded last week and it was a close call but instead chose to wait and took a small gamble on a hit to get Kane and Hazard. Kane delivered for us but it was Hazard that hurt most which is quite ironic as the reason we took the hit was in fear of Hazard hurting us massively if we didn’t have him and he went off on one. As he can do. So despite having some decent scorers in our midst this week it does go to show what a difference nailing your captain can do. We went for Hazard as he’s been on fire and he was at home with a decent fixture but he managed to pull in just the 3 points, doubled up to 6. Here’s how the rest fared and what we have decided to do ahead of GW22 to try and haul ourselves back up that leaderboard…

Our defence really hurt us this week, pulling in just 9 points between the sorry lot of them, while our current kryptonite nemesis Mr Baines sat on our bench with a smug little assist waving at us, just out of reach. Prior to Christmas doubling up on City in defence looked a good idea but it’s certainly something we will be addressing with our WC.  Hutton and Taylor were more ‘ones we sort of had to do with’ this week and in all honesty we feared the worst. And got it.

7 of our front 8 actually delivered attacking returns this week. As luck would have it the only one who didn’t – we captained! Sanchez delivered massively of course and we just had to count our chicken’s that we had him and Downing and Silva proved their consistency with an assist and 2 bonus each. Up top we were delighted that new signing Kane grabbed a goal as did both of the old guard Costa and Austin.

So all in all hardly a disaster and the good news is that despite slipping a few ranking places overall we remain No1 in our adopted ‘home country’ of Bonaire, Saint Eustatius and Saba!

Transfer for GW22

Our team itself wasn’t in bad shape this week and so we felt once again that we could hold the wildcard with a view to playing it in the two week break ahead of GW23. In light of this we decided to make just the one alteration this week and having lost Toby Alderweireld to injury and Alan Hutton being the only alternative up against Liverpool we fancied West Ham to keep a clean sheet against a striker-less Hull. We wouldn’t ordinarily bring in a West Ham defender at this point as their fixtures after this week are pretty challenging but given as we will likely wildcard anyway this felt like a nice one-off.

So to confirm our transfers we have –

Sold Toby Alderweiereld and Bought James Tomkins

Our team in full…

Captain

Our captain this week is Harry Kane

Our vice-captain is Eden Hazard

The team in text format is –
Hart
Zabaleta Tomkins Baines
Sanchez Silva Hazard(v) Downing
Austin Costa Kane (c)
Bench: Krul. Boyd Hutton Taylor

    Hi all!

Team looks set? Have 1 FT, but think I might hold it.

Two things i’ve not decided. Play Pants or Krul? Capo Kun or Kane?

The rumor mill is suggesting United are looking at making a bid for Marquihnos. Yes please. FPL gold, too.

Would be a great signing. I absolutely loved *that* block and celebration against Barca! That said, though, you are linked with nearly everyone these days…

      • NIN says:

Yeah we sure are. This is one that kinda makes a bit of sense though as PSG have Luiz and Silva as CB’s. They’re a donkey of a club so it wouldn’t surprise me if they sold him. Hopefully to us! Serious talent for a 20 year old.

Marquinhos, and Hummels constantly rumoured would be a delight to have in the team! But we still got Paddy “get subbed off at half” McNair, Chris “catastrophy” Smalling and Phil “injury waiting to happen” Jones trying to prove themselves for the last 5 years…We need that stability at the back!

      • NIN says:

Really? It’s the first i’ve heard of Marquihnos being linked with us. Smalling is gone in the summer, no doubt about it. Gurn-face can stay on and as he’s got big potential still. Yep stability is key. Hummels is a serious crock though. It’s the only bad thing about him. Way too man injuries.

        • KungFuKingCantona says:

Well I did not hear about Marquinhos until yesterday I think for swap kinda thing with RVP (weird). Hence the “comma” between Marquinhos and Hummels (the one always linked with us). But yeah Jones has that huge potential and has been nurtured by Rio and Vida for a couple of good years but it doesn’t seem their leadership skills have rubbed off on him. I am hoping he become the United legend that Fergie thought he could become…but..let’s wait and see! Wonder if we are gonna get anybody this January…we should..we have too..of not the top 4 fight will be a helluva one!!!

        • NIN says:

Ah, fair enough. I misread it so. I’d snap their hand off if that van Persie swap deal was actually legit. It would make sense for us. We shall see. Top 4 is such an open battle eh? Hopefully we get it.

        • Kop Warrior says:

I agree about the potential Jones has lads. I know he’s still only 22 but this is his 4th season at United and has he developed significantly since his arrival? He really needs to make that step up soon.

        • NIN says:

Agreed, Kop. He certainly does. He has been his own worst enemy at times. The amount of times he barrels into tackles or tries to out-jump 3 players at a corner or some shit, and breaks himself up in the process. Over eager and inexperienced maybe? I think we’d be mad to sell him anytime in the next 3-4 seasons, unless of course he turns to shite. Hopefully that wont happen laugh

You all set for this GW mate?

        • KungFuKingCantona says:

Very open battle in deed. We keep on saying the PL is getting better and better each year. Will it ever stop?? haha! And yes Jones has in my eyes developed..but not significantly. He has won titles, big games, played with some of the best, been coached by one of the best managers ever…but still lacks that little something…Composure? Reading of the game? Positionning….darn I do not know haha!

        • NIN says:

KungFu – I hope it doesn’t stop! It really is a great league, but the money involved is sickening. The more experience big Phil gets, the better. As you say, a bit of composure would go a long way. Hopefully he reaches his potential.

        • Kop Warrior says:

Agreed NIN, you’d be mad to sell him anytime soon. Regarding the battle for the top 4…assuming Chelsea & City take the top 2 spots, I then see Arsenal, United, Spurs & Southampton battling for the remaining two places. Ultimately I see Spurs & Southampton slipping away and therefore Arsenal & United will make up the top 4.

Yeah I’m all set for this GW. No transfers to make (touch wood!), I’ve just got to decided between Kane & Kun for the armband. You?

        • NIN says:

Kop – I hope you’re right re top 4 spot for us. A fit Di Maria for the remainder of the season would be a huge shot in the arm. Hopefully Van Gaal puts him back in the middle, where he is devastating.

Good stuff. I’m set now. Going with Di Maria (c) as a differential. I went Azpi -> Bertrand in the hope Debuchy would be okay for the Villa game, but that ain’t happening now. Arse to it. Might mean having to wait another GW to buy Aguero

        • Raziel says:

Why not just play your Jan wildcard Nin?

        • NIN says:

I played it last GW, Raz. Squad was in a jocker.

Help me decide who to play between Austin and Downing.

Other forwards I’m playing – Rooney and Kane
Other mids – Sanchez, Hazard, DiMaria, Silva.

    Can’t decide if I should play 3-5-2 or 3-4-3.

    Thanks!
