Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 2
Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 2.
If you made it from GW1 to GW2 then that probably either means you scored well in GW1 and are still full of beans having done so or that you are simply a proper FPL player and know that you will make it to GW38 regardless. Either way GW2 is upon us so let’s go see how the weekend pans out…
Arsenal’s reserve team got off to a good start with 3 points away at Newcastle and they clash in the days early game with a bouyant Burnley side who beat Southampton 3-0 in their own first game.
3pm sees us with five games but with the exception of Liverpool it’s a list of the ‘also-rans’ again. There’s definitely a pattern developing here… Villa host Bournemouth with both looking for their first win, Everton host Watford with both looking for their first win, Norwich host Newcastle with both looking for their first win, Brighton host West Ham with both looking for their first win, (oh hang on, Brighton won?!) West ham looking for their first win. Southampton host Liverpool and of course the hosts are looking for their first win. They’ll still be looking next week too.
The evening game is argueably the first big clash of the titans this season as Man City host Spurs.
Sunday sees Sheffield United and Palace get us going at 2pm, with both teams looking for their first win. That is followed at 4.30pm by Chelsea and Leicester, with… yeah, you guessed it, both teams looking for their first win!
We go to Monday this time too as Wolves host Man United in a mouth watering clash.
The games in full…

I’m Finnish and I didn’t start the season with the GOAT, I feel ashamed now :banned:
You should lol
+1
all the Finnish I know has Pukki in their team
That really makes me feel good, cheers! :suicide:
:laugh2:
Christians say Jesus saves but for Spurs VAR is the true saviour
I love VAR! :big-lol:
Did it hit a City player’s arm or what?
Yeah it did tbf
It did.
But in one sense that used to be part of the drama pre var
That illustrates the stupidity of the rule though as that was about as unintentional as you will get. The Spurs one last year was deemed fine as it was unintentional. That’s what the rule should be.
Yeah agreed, the problem with VAR is that it’s great for cutting out clear human errors, but with these “unintentional” hand balls it’s very much up to interpretation and there will be variance from game to game, hence every team and every player is not treated the same, which should be what they are all striving for.
Zed, the interpretation is now irrelevant. That’s what has been removed. If it hits the arm that’s it done, no goal, doesn’t matter whether it was intentional or not. And it’s stupid. As this one just illustrated vividly.
But isn’t the rule still the same, if it’s unintentional then it’s fine, if it’s intentional it’s not? So in theory, at least, some VAR referees (they’re just human) could deem a handball unintentional, no?
Anyway, if it’s like you say then it’s very stupid indeed! Just a matter of luck really…
No, they’ve changed it. If it hits an arm and leads to a goal it’s no goal, end of. Technically it was a correct decision. Albeit aligned to a stupid rule.
Oh that’s sad, that’s a very stupid rule then
I agree that the intention has been eliminated but not the “it’s a handball end of”. The rule is that a penalty is awarded if the defending team player uses his hand or arm in a unfair position, that is, he makes his body “bigger” by posing the arms in a not natural position to gain volume. That’s what we have here for 3 (VAR) years now and I’ve seen many cases of handball not leading to a penalty because the refs though it wasn’t a not natural position/movement. I also think we are all under the same (FIFA) rules so yeah should be the same there. Didn’t see the Laporte incident yet though so I don’t have an opinion on that.
Nice dismantling of your own argument at the end there DMC :slaphead:
Actually, I realize now that we were arguing different game situations and after reading the IFBA rules (Law 12) for 2019/20, this is what I’ve concluded:
1) handball awarding a penalty: it’s as I said.
2) handball leading to a goal (or indeed to a goal opportunity): it’s as you said.
So, if it touched Laporte’s arm/hand and that led to the goal it shouldn’t stand accordingly to said rule.
We weren’t arguing about anything until you chipped in! We’d decided I was right….
But yeah it was all about point 2.
Ehehe ok, fair enough, you weren’t arguing anymore when I chipped in. That’s the problem of reading through the comments every two days (vacations and all that) instead of daily – you start to gain interest for the discussion but you are too late to enter it…and you still do!
That was an interesting statistic… :laugh2:
It happened again. Can’t believe it. :suicide: :dash:
:biggun: VAR
Such a good game and that happens in the end. I’ve generally been in favor of VAR but suddenly a bit more skeptical now!
Is it because you’re a City fan or because you think it was wrongly disallowed?
I think the two disallowed goals for City have been bullshit. For the first goal Sterling was a millimeter offside, no human eye would have spotted the difference and as such I don’t think VAR should be involved for something so small. For this goal they typically would not have given handball, but because the attack ends with a goal suddenly it’s a foul?
I’m all in favor of VAR correcting clear human mistakes and all, but this has been bullshit.
Yeah I here you, can’t really take a stance on that handball as I didn’t see it, didn’t watch the game… But from a neutral perspective, it seems to me that IF it was a handball (which is clearly a foul in football rules) then it’s quite obvious the goal should be disallowed, I don’t care what they “typically” would have done (that is up to interpretation anyhow)
I’ve just seen it now, yeah agreed it’s very unintentional, barely touches the hand, should have been allowed….
Tekno – an offside is an offside mate. It’s like the goal line technology – it either is or isn’t a goal. You can’t go all centimeters on us here. The penalty is a whole different story.
I am going to somehow need something spectacular from Zouma, Barkley and Pérez tomorrow.
One don’t play, one misses a pen and one gets sent off
