Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 2.
If you made it from GW1 to GW2 then that probably either means you scored well in GW1 and are still full of beans having done so or that you are simply a proper FPL player and know that you will make it to GW38 regardless. Either way GW2 is upon us so let’s go see how the weekend pans out…

Arsenal’s reserve team got off to a good start with 3 points away at Newcastle and they clash in the days early game with a bouyant Burnley side who beat Southampton 3-0 in their own first game.

3pm sees us with five games but with the exception of Liverpool it’s a list of the ‘also-rans’ again. There’s definitely a pattern developing here… Villa host Bournemouth with both looking for their first win, Everton host Watford with both looking for their first win, Norwich host Newcastle with both looking for their first win, Brighton host West Ham with both looking for their first win, (oh hang on, Brighton won?!) West ham looking for their first win. Southampton host Liverpool and of course the hosts are looking for their first win. They’ll still be looking next week too.

The evening game is argueably the first big clash of the titans this season as Man City host Spurs.

Sunday sees Sheffield United and Palace get us going at 2pm, with both teams looking for their first win. That is followed at 4.30pm by Chelsea and Leicester, with… yeah, you guessed it, both teams looking for their first win!

We go to Monday this time too as Wolves host Man United in a mouth watering clash.

The games in full…

Not many points this week, I wonder how many Zouma, Barkley and Perez will get me.

As a city fan that hurts. Llorente knocks us out of the CL last season that would have been disallowed this year and then we get hit it with this year.

    Suppose Moura scores at least.

I find it annoying that Norwich played Liverpool week 1. As much as I love Pukki, it’s difficult to justify starting the season with him at Anfield

All aboard the Pukki Pandwagon :superman: ? I’m tempted to sacrifice Wilson/King for him.

A decent-ish GW so far (though C’d Salah) but reading about injuries to Zinchenko and Digne has clouded my thoughts on how best to use the 2FT.

With 30 shots, City should should have had the game done and dusted. Unlucky with the disallowed goal, but hilarious all the same!

Zinchenko has said that he just had a bit of cramp.

Looks like he should be playing in midfield rather than defense though.

      Kralin says:

I think Pukki makes sense if you’re trying to build team value.

And obviously the geezer’s in form, though I have no idea if Newcastle were just being utterly crap.

On the other hand, Norwich have some grim looking fixtures up ahead.

      • Kop Warrior says:

He’ll rise by 0.2 this week.

      • Smash says:

Yeah those fixtures are pretty shocking. It’s tough as you can’t see Norwich doing much in those fixtures but whenever Norwich score he’s likely to be involved

      • Terminator says:

Really Pukki’s fixtures are no worse than Bournmouth’s really, both have a couple of tough games coming up and Wilson in my case doesn’t seem to be doing anything at all by way of scoring goals, he didn’t do anything against Aston Villa ok he had an assist but that is all he did, what’s happened to his goals, he couldn’t seem to stop in pre-season.

        • Kralin says:

Well, you have to be patient with that sort of thing. On paper Wilson had a pair of plumb fixtures to start the season. I’ve no idea if he had any chances today.

I often look back at my GW1 side with a rueful smile, wondering what on earth I was playing at.

Wilson has at least chipped in a bit – 10 points from two games – Fraser is the one I’m most concerned about.

      • Zed Leppelin says:

I don’t think those fixtures are that bad, apart from City he’s got quite good fixtures (still thinking Chelsea won’t be that bad) up until GW10… Think I have to jump on him smile

        • Kralin says:

At the moment I haven’t the foggiest what I’m going to do with my 2FT so need to think a bit.

Pukki could be a very handy enabler if say I want to add KdB to my side (for Fraser). Hmm, that sounds good, if I can afford it. On the subject of fixtures, City’s are very nice.

Chelsea may have an option or two themselves in the cheap forward department – and they have some very nice fixtures to take us to the break. I’m looking at Chelsea a bit more closely than Norwich, though see musings above. I quite fancy getting a third City player in my side.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

I want to jump on Kevin (not literally), but I have Digne and Zichenko and I’m not sure on their status, and it would be inconvenient to do hasty decisions now cause we won’t know about those two and the extent of their injuries just now (I reckon)… Yet Kevin and Teemu will probably rise very soon… Haven’t flushed the WC yet either (obviously)

        • Kralin says:

Yes – I want to see how Zinchenko is before doing anything hasty.

I may be biased, and my comments may go against the majority of what’s been posted, but bear with me.
If the ball hadn’t hit the hand where would it have gone? From the angles I’ve looked at it seems it would have gone straight to Ndombele. The ball changes direction and goes to Jesus, 5 yards away from where it was going. The point of the VAR is that it allows them to correct things missed with the naked eye. The ball hitting the hand changed the direction of the ball, therefore it seems the correct use of VAR.
Again, I’m clearly biased in that I love the result, but I’m trying to be as unbiased as possible.

      Pancho says:

The initial angle shows the direction the ball is traveling and then shows how it is redirected.

All sounds a bit magic bullet and grassy knollesque.

      AK47 says:

If that is now considered handball then surely and shot on target that accidentally hits a defender’s hand in the penalty box should be a penalty? I don’t believe that is the case with the new rules. This whole VAR thing is a complete mess.

      • Pancho says:

Well the rule is that a hand can’t be used to set up or score a goal, so it’s a different reasoning behind when it’s offensive handball and when it’s a defensive handball.
That doesn’t mean that you have to like the rule, but it does seem to me that they applied the rules correctly in that instance. Again, I’m biased so take my comments with a grain of salt.

      Shadow says:

Whilst the decision was technically correct under the new rules VAR is still a mess and takes away so much from the natural enjoyment of the game.

Trust me, when some of the other big clubs suffer from it then we’ll hear a lot more negativity about it. Currently it’s funny cos it keeps going against City…

And if we’re using VAR for stuff which isn’t a clear and obvious error how is it not a penalty on Rodri in the 1st half?

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah, the VAR referees are human beings just like regular referees, so what dictates whether something is checks through VAR and what’s not? Isn’t it up to the VAR referees? It’s still up to a human being watching a monitor and deciding whether the main ref should take another look… And human beings are erroneous…

        • Pancho says:

Zed, I guess to me the point of VAR is to have someone saying “we didn’t get something right and now we have the chance to amend for it.” If they missed a call and it affected a goal then let’s take the human error out of the reffing aide of the game when it matters most: goals and violent situations.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yes, I agree and that’s why I do like VAR, but I was just saying that the “we didn’t get this right, we should take another look” is still subject to someone making that call (and I realize you can’t CAR every second of a football match, so you gotta draw the line somewhere)… By no means am I saying VAR is bad, VAR is very good addition in my opinion… The flow of football and the experience of spectators is completely another matter, but VAR makes more correct refereeing decisions and they can only be a good thing (from a logical point of view)!

        • Pancho says:

Hey Zed, you may not see this as the conversation is buried at this point, but there’s also a distinction on this point that’s different from the Rodri shout for a penalty that didn’t get reviewed.
This was not a judgement call. This was like an offsides call where the ref on the field didn’t have a choice. If it hit the hand of an attacking player and a goal resulted then it’s no goal. It’s not a human judgement call, it’s a black and white in that case. Whether something should or shouldn’t be a penalty is a different category. For what it’s worth (if anything). :scratch_one-s_head:
