Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 21

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 21. If you made it this far without missing a deadline give yourself a pat on the back. And if you think you’re tired just imagine how the players are feeling! This is the last GW in the marathon Christmas period though, so you them and us all can breathe a sigh of relief and take a break for a week or so to recover.

New Year’s Day itself has a disappointingly low number of fixtures with just three games this year, for some bizarre reason. Everton and Leicester kick us off at lunchtime before Arsenal and Fulham play the solitary ‘traditional’ 3pm game on their lonesome. Cardiff and Spurs bring up the rear at 5.30pm.

We then skip to Wednesday evening for the bulk of this week’s action with 6 games in total. The remaining one is on Thursday night and should in theory be the game of the week, if not the whole Christmas period, or indeed the season. If only they all had any legs left… Oh, it’s Man City vs Liverpool by the way. Cracking time to play what may be a season decider that isn’t it?!

The games in full…

Keep track of all the action, the goals, the talking points, right here at FF247 Live Match Chat, an interactive chat which encourages you to keep involved and share your thoughts and emotions as the matches take place.

Good luck to absolutely everyone for Gameweek 21 from all at FF247!

If I would to bring Salah back one of Kane and Auba has to go but both are in good form and hard to decide which one. Any other ideas?

Hey all, need some help picking a replacement for Davies, max of 5.2. List is down to TAA, Shaw, Pereira. Rest of defense is Robbo, ObiWan, Bennett, KikoF. Any votes?

I still have Lovren…would it be worth a 4ph to swap him for TAA? Been wanting to do this for a while, but always have a more important swap that needs to be made.

    AJW says:

Hello M. Kralin – are you home from work yet? I left you a message of support on 141.1 I think that’s the right number!

By the way, I am planning to get in Kun very soon, but don’t know who to sack. Have Kane, Auba & Kamara up front & it pains me to rid myself of them! I have a feeling he’s going to go on a run soon & he is one of the few I had planned to have in my team as a keeper from the start of the year (I got rid of him when he was injured!), as well as Pogs, Son, Arnie and Mo.
Other plans are to find a replacement for Son for a few weeks (probably Bernardo Silva) & I really would to squeeze Arnie back in, or get Hazard, Sané, Sterlo or someone of their ilk, but I know you can’t have everyone!
    Team as it stands:

    Faba / Etheridge
Robbo, Doherty, Wan B, Digne; Stinkovic
Salah, Son, Pogs, Deulofeu, Kayal (I know, don’t laugh – I can’t get rid of him!)
    Kane, Auba, Kamara
I’ve certainly got some firepower, but how can I make it better?
I really feel good whenever I have Aguero in my team. Does it have to be Flash Harry, or Auba?

Ah, chronic bloody indecision! Maybe I should sit out the next GW without ANY City cover? Oooh – cold sweats!
Any help would be gratefully accepted – but I don’t want to be a whingeing parisitic Antipodean!
    See y’all!

      AJW says:

Oh and by the way, I will probably let Digne stay a few weeks and thenchange to TAA – he really showed flashes of brilliance last night – I watched the game with my son (not the South Korean star, but the half Aussie PSG supporter!) ‘- really was a great illustration of quality football. :)

Are his work colleagues home yet? ;)

      • AJW says:

Cryptic comment Innit – are you suggesting that K and colleagues might have stopped off at the local, just because its a non- GW this weekend? Hope you’re all enjoying a break and benefitting from a well earned rest! See you all round!

        • inittowinit says:

I honestly thought you’d have got that one… he joked (sort of, probably not) about someone stalking someone’s work colleagues…….

        • AJW says:

Forking shirts mate! Sometimes I’m just so vague! Sorry I’ll try to keep my eyes on the ball!

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Cryptic to see Kralinho referred to as K, although aren’t we all prosecuted by a remote, inaccessible authority!

        • Kralin says:

          Like a dog!, he said.

…Josef K – there’s another ’80s outfit for you to have a look at. Worked up quite a head of steam.

    • 160.3
      Kralin says:

Oh blimey, to have City or not have City. Initially I brought Kane in with the thought he could become Auba, then maybe Kun later. He’s still in the team and will probably remain there for a bit.

Without labouring things, can’t you just get Sané in for Son?

I enjoyed your talk of Fergie as a taxi driver taking Son to the airport. I was trying to work out a Travis Bickle angle but never quite got there.

    • 160.4
      Kralin says:

I know what you mean about Kun though. I was starting to fill up a bit last season when people started talking of him being ‘a nostalgia pick’ and all that. Bit like Defoe.

It’s great to see him still banging the goals in. Apart from last night. That made me fill up, for different reasons.

My er analysis of your situation reflects the fact it’s Friday evening and I’m barely conscious. Stunned by the premature return to work. You’ve enough firepower to experiment a bit with the Son replacement. You could even replace him with a Spurs player, if you fancy that.

      • AJW says:

I too let The Fall fall by the wayside! As for your comments about FPL, I think old F. Scott Fitzgerald reminded us so aptly, ‘So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past’! Sounds familiar to my team management and their performance!
Enjoy this weird F.A. Cup saturday!

    • 160.5
      Kralin says:

Me again re your side. Alli or Richarlison worth looking at, for Son, perhaps. David Silva if you’re feeling lucky. Dunno if downgrading Kane would allow Sterling in. Probably if you go cheap. A lot have gone cheap this season, striker wise. Great things happening amongst the midfield brethren.

      • AJW says:

Well thank you kindly Kralin! Grist for the mill indeed! It’s tempting to keep 2 high-powered strikers and juggle the kids, but then again….suffice to say thanks for your advice! Glad you liked the Fergie-OGS mini cab thing. Funny to think them just passing by Stansted and dropping off a Spurs player on an el cheapo flight to Seoul! Sir Alex retaining his simple tastes (mini cab or train rather than Man U private plane!). Anyway, we’ll see what eventuates FPL wise. Sorry I am typing this on dumb-phone with band aid coated thumb. Taking ages! Bye for now K and FF 247 readers! Have a good weekend !

        • AJW says:

Juggle the mids not the kids! Bloody band aid!

        • Kralin says:

Have a good one yourself. The taxi stuff was brilliant, one of the images of the season.

Midfielders are always more tempting as those extra points for clean sheets, goals, all help and add up. So having Sterling, or Hazard, for Kane or Auba seems logical enough.

The thing I like about Kane though is that one doesn’t (usually) have to fret about him starting or not. And of course the goals. A bit of that goes a long way towards settling the nerves. With Kun (and City) there’s always the teasing ‘will he play, won’t he play?’ riddle to fret about each week. Then a load of missed points as a result of bottling it.

        • Kralin says:

I thought the kids thing was deliberate, keeping with the Man U and Fergie schtick.

        • AJW says:

Wow, just woke up and discovered all this added repartée – thanks Kralin (I now don’t have to abbreviate your name to resemble that of Kafka, as the band-aid has come off!) & Zed. Hmmm, more to think about! You’ve got me thinking now! I really would like a combo of Kun & Kane (or Kun & Auba) – I think they might be as good as having 1 striker & a decent mid. I’ll have to mull it over.
By the way, the French state seems to have taken onboard some Kafka-style concepts, as the official word for a public servant receiving a move is called a ‘mutation’! Scary hey? Some authorities seem to have mastered the logic of Alfred Jarry in their proceedures as well – but I shall not bad-mouth them collectively, as I try not to generalize too much. (I think Rik Mayall as ‘Rik’ in the Young Ones once said, ‘Oh you’re always generalizing!’).
Further to your comments below, I once saw The Fall at ‘The Big Day Out’, in Sydney (c. 1990 I think) – they were great. Long live Mark E Smith (& Pete Shelley, sniff!).

For the FPL problems, I shall have to consider….
          Bye for now people!

        • Kralin says:

Plenty of time to mull it over – in fact a dangerous amount of time to mull things over. I noticed to some mild alarm last night that the Pog is listed as injured. I think it’s good to do to your side what you want to do to your side. It’s very easy – I do it all the time – to just be dragged along by the tide. Just go for it if that’s what you fancy.

I posted a link to ‘Kicker Conspiracy’ over on FFF when MES died. I left The Fall behind fairly early in the 90s but still have a furtive listen to one or two of their songs, now and then. I agree that live they were fantastic.

          Interesting info about French bureaucracy.

Sideways moves, not worth the cost in hits

      Kralin says:

      Is it all about Salah?

If you’re in control of your ML and indifferent about OR, and plan to stick with what you’ve done, then you could go for it. You realise of course that in making your moves the players you’ve left behind will start to perform and you’re likely to be asking us, tearfully, about the reverse transfer?

Personally I’d never take that level of hit and would just do it in stages.

Just join a primal scream therapy group and get it out of your system that way. Or there are other more pleasant ways.

      • Zed Leppelin says:

Cheers Kralinho, just what I needed, I guess it’s all about Salah, he’s better player than Kane to own so that’s why, but yeah perhaps it’s better to do in stages (I actually tearfully enjoyed my Christmas having sold Salah just before his hat trick in early December ha :) )

P.S. I am not in control of my ML and I’m not indifferent about OR and that’s why I need Salah back into my team ;)

        • Kralin says:

If I were wildcarding now, which of course I’m not, I’d be really tempted with a 3/5/2 and the 2 up top would be cheap.

But for now I have to ride it out with Kane and Salah and hope the supporting entourage of Pog, Richarlison et al do enough to keep me honest. So far it’s worked – no Hazard nor Auba at all, some luck in the captaincy picks. Defenders chipping in. But no Salah would scare me.

The one thing my side is missing is a handy goalkeeper. Had Fab. Now have Pat. Neither has made the earth move for me.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Yeah I play 3-5-2! But my story is I had Hazard and Salah in November and when Arnautovic got injured I decided to get Kane so lost both Hazard and Salah… Haz and Salah were amazing in December and I cried… Now I got Haz back and he’s blanked twice in a row… It’s a game of luck, of course, as it’s not enough to have the right players, you need to have the right player at the right time! Anyway, my ML leader has Salah and Liverpool look awesome so I need to get him in! Only I can’t do it without sacrificing either Kane or Auba…

          P. S. I can’t get a goalie right either, coupled with a fact I can’t get a captain correct… Blah at least I can listen to the Stone Roses!!!!!

        • Kralin says:

Another thought, if you can credit it with that, would be Kane to Rashford* then the aim of Salah in may be easier and not so hit deranging to the side.

          * have no idea about rotation, return of Lukaku/Sanchez etc.

        • Kralin says:

Luck and patience, though I tend to be more patient with the cheaper players. But Hazard should do you well.

I never quite got to grips with The Stone Roses – in terms of Manchester bands, I always thought The Fall were some way ahead, or more interesting anyway. Made me chuckle and sounded like they were recorded in a wind tunnel. Quite liked an obscure outfit called Miaow as well.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Fool’s Gold and I Am The Resurrection are among the greatest tracks ever recorded!

Will check out The Fall, have never heard of them!

        • Zed Leppelin says:

Think the Rashford ship has sailed, with Kaku/Sanchez I’d much rather opt for Jimenez/Arnautovic who are more nailed, Jimenez after City has some fixtures too “in his locker”

        • Kralin says:

Jiminez is the player I brought in for the injured Chic. I still have Mitrovic as well, who ambles in now and again with a few points.

          Try This Nation’s Saving Grace

I had a girlfriend who was effortlessly hip and who seemed to know about bands long before they became well known. Before even John Peel played them. She introduced me to Ecstasy era MBV and The Stone Roses’ early single – Elephant Stone I think. I really liked the MBV and was very polite about TSR.

        • Zed Leppelin says:

“Effortlessly hip” and Stone Roses in the same sentence, I’ll take that! The thing about TSR is collectivity and groove, the drum and bass were magnificent, and the guitar was hopping along nicely, way beyond the usual easy strumming (and I know, I’m a guitarist myself), and I usually hate guitar solos (unless it’s blues or Hendrix or the like), the TSR guitarist didn’t do those, he was just another piece in the puzzle, amazing!

        • Kralin says:

I did hear at the time, from a fairly reliable source, that they used tapes at their live shows, but have no idea if that’s true or not.
