Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 38

Welcome to Fantasy Football Live Match Gameweek 38. That’s your lot folks! Well, it will be in about 3 hours anyway… GW38 always seems so brutal. We are used to game-weeks spanning 3-4 days, sometimes even 6 or 7. And then when it really comes down to the final reckoning we are all lined up in front of the FPL firing squad and shot at for 90 short minutes as if we’d just been caught in Malaysia with a gram or two in our back pockets. And it’s a bit of an odd one to call as nearly all matters are sorted, barring a couple of highly unlikely goal difference swings. And we are talking huge ones here – a Liverpool draw and a Chelsea 16-0 win. And a Saints loss, a Swansea win and a 10 goal swing. The Saints do however face Man City so you just never know! But being realistic it’s all done and dusted. The main talking points will probably centre around rotation and regardless of what nonsense the managers trotted out in their press conferences about ‘playing until the end with professionalism’ there will be rotation aplenty. There’s usually a fair few goals on the last day too. Here’s hoping your amongst them.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to stop by and comment on Live Match Chat each week, it’s the fun end of the FPL week, indeed it’s the action end of it. We appreciate every single comment :worthy:

Another thanks to all of the brilliant contributors on this site. Not only are the articles informative, they are well written and always amusing. It’s great that each writer has their own style.

I’ve finished on 14,056 OR, my best yet. Coincidentally it’s my 3rd top 50k finish in a row, which correlates exactly with when I started checking in here. I was convinced by the community spirit and banter to properly join up this season and boy has it been worth it. Any lurkers out there, just register! You won’t regret it!

Finally a big thanks to everyone who has given feedback to my questions. The response rate on here is ridiculous. Keep up the great work!

“Sam Allardyce ‘set to be sacked’ as Everton manager in the next 48 hours”

“The club likes him,but the players don’t”

Came in when they were worrying about relegation and led them to 8th place.Did a decent job in a short space of time.I know he isnt everyones cup of tea but if Everton fans think they should be finishing above 8th then they are deluded.

I want him to stay, for Kop’s sake smile

Seriously though, it’s not about top 6 or top 8 or top whatever, it’s about the style of football. West Ham fans got a lot of grief for the ‘West Ham way’ thing but that was petty and missing the point. They, and I guess now Everton fans having witnessed it for 5 months, just don’t want to watch the ‘Allardyce way’ week in, week out. They just don’t want that to be their rather expensive weekly ‘entertainment’, as it really isn’t.

He was brought in for a reason and did his job perfectly. His style suited Bolton in the 90’s / early 00’s and they massively overachieved because of it. They loved it because they weren’t meant to compete at that level and yet could because of that. This is different.

But yeah, it’s difficult to balance. Realistically, and I’ve said this for years now, you can’t expect to break into that top 4 which is now a 5 and Arsenal. Everton can spend all the money they like but the reality is that the top players you need will join one of the others first as there’s more chance of trophies. Even Spurs who are in that ‘set’ find it difficult to have first dibs on a superstar because of wages mainly, and Pep.

Sam will go, Marco Silva will come in. We’ll spend another £200m and we’ll finish 7th or 8th. The difference will be the style of football the fans get to watch. If you’re an Everton or a Spurs you need to land lucky and come up with a Poch. A homegrown Kane helps too.

Big Sam did give me my most enjoyable moment of the season though. Everybody in the world knew what was about to happen in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield and sure enough he executed to excruciating perfection. It was horrible to watch but also somewhat sadistically satisfying to see a man have a resolute plan and get 11 players to follow it to the letter. You just had to smile at that.

        • Bring in El Loco Bielsa. Makes Martinez look like Big Sam by comparison.

Might need a third box of popcorn, HL  😉

I agree, Init. He’s is good at what he does, but his teams do play awful football. Would have been interesting to see what he could have done with the England squad, but we all know why that didn’t happen!

Got to feel for the bloke though. He does exactly what is needed, and then all the fans hate him for it. You say they will finish 7/8 again but Everton fans have to give him credit for actually getting them there with the sh*t heap he was left with. Before he took over breaking into the top half of the table was beyond the contemplation of many Everton fans. Okay, many realistic Everton fans. Let me rephrase that, most Everton fans still thought the double was on laugh

        • Or just bring in Jose if you want real excitement. 😉

        • inittowinit says:

Cookie, that’s exactly what I said. Just in less words smile

“He was brought in for a reason and did his job perfectly”

        • inittowinit says:

The case of Jose is even worse really Mito. He’s got Lukaku, Pogba, Sanchez and Mata to build around plus 3 really exciting and quick kids. And yet still goes all in functional. What would Pep do with the same tools? He’d win the league.

        • @Init, Lukaku wouldn’t be on the team if Pep was there. Martial, Rashford and Sanchez front 3 would be very possible.
