Fantasy Football Live Match Chat Gameweek 4

After two bumper game-weeks, perhaps GW3 was merely a reality check. It matters not though as GW4 is upon us already, with fresh promise. It’s quite the condensed affair too, beginning on Saturday and ending on Sunday. Almost old school. Almost.

It begins with Leicester hosting Liverpool in the early game, giving many a Salah captainer a weekend long headache should he fail to produce. Five 3pm games follow in quick succession. Brighton will attempt to keep the Mitro show at bay. Bournemouth will hope to somehow halt Alonso’s inevitable march in to everybody’s fantasy team once again. Zaha will be looking to put one more nail in Hughes’ coffin. Wally will attempt to make amends for Richarlison’s stupidity. And Arnie will make a last ditch attempt to stop Pellegrini being fed to the Wolves.

The evening game should pique some interest as Man City play host to Ashley’s mercenaries. A classic case of an evening captain over an early one once again, in reverse? Perhaps!

Sunday sees us out with three away games for Arsenal, Man United and Spurs, going to Cardiff, Burnley and Watford respectively.

In Hazard vs Mane surely Haz wins with those short-term fixtures… Would you do Bilva or Mkhi to Haz?

    Erlanger says:

Sorry to repost. Got lost a few pages back. Opinions very much appreciated!

    A. Salah, Daniels to Hazard, Alonso (-4)
    B. Wildcard
    C. Hold them knees

      RedKev says:

Hi Erlanger the -4 looks a decent move with Daniels not nailed and Liverpool cover in Mane. What would your WC look like …wouldn’t want to recommend using it to anyone but with money tied up in De Gea and Cairney injured plus a couple of uncertainties it could be worth it …decided I’m gonna use mine!

      • Erlanger says:

Thanks for the feedback. Still fiddling around with what it would look like but the key changes would be DDG and one of the pool boys out for Haz/Alonso. Otherwise some cleaning up of those flagged

Salah/Luiz>Haz/Alonso & save the cash, maybe upgrade front line later…

      Zed Leppelin says:

That’s a tough one! I’d say A is tempting but I probably would chicken out of that, B is tempting too with DDG/Daniels/Cairney/Zaha/Wally/Mkhi good riddances… Can upgrade Luiz to Alonso too with WC!

C is not an option, you need to put out the fires, quite many of them there I think, WC would be something I’d think of doing with that lot! But it’s obvioisly your call, it’s still a bit early in the season, would ideally glean some more data before using WC…

      • Erlanger says:

It’s not obvious is it? I usually like to keep my WC until later but with all of those flags and the volatility in price changes, I may have to pull the trigger! Based on your comment, fair to assume that you’d keep Salah? He’s the main makeweight for any potential moves

        • Zed Leppelin says:

It’s a 50/50 decision for me, agreed he’s expensive and with Mane for instance you have similar points and 3m more in the side, which is great, then again it’s Salah, he’s a better player than Mane and all the games I’ve seen Salah has been more threatening! Yes Salah has missed many chances but he missed many chances last season too and was still amazing!

        • Kralin says:

I think it would be very wise to keep Salah. He’s the one player I’d be delighted to see my opponents get rid of.

Having said that, I can see (sort of) why people are thinking of moving him on – the fixtures, rotation, a better balanced side maybe. If doing that though I’d be planning a very quick way of getting him back (or maybe wildcarding in the next break to get him back).

Anybody got stats on Salah’s attacking involvements so far this season? Is he still getting forward and shooting like last season? Also, how did Liverpool do vs the “big” teams last season?

Trying to decide if I dump Salah or not for a few weeks.

      Kralin says:

Looking up that data would take you about 5 minutes. Without wanting to sound mean.

The Liverpool Man City games were low-scoring, dull affairs.

Salah has missed a few sitters this year (as he did last year) but has created loads of chances.

I’m not so much worried about Liverpool’s fixtures, it’s more the possible (and highly likely) rotation in GW6.

Main team: 40 points (thanks a lot Salah, Wally, Austin, Mkhi, King etc!) :poop: And dare I say that Salah is not justifying his £13m price tag :shake: . Sitting at just under 1.4mth. Urgh. Still, it IS a marathon, albeit a soul-destroying one.

My Rules team: 43 points but sitting 1.3mth (and that’s my ‘fun’ team!!!). Strewth.

So tempted by Salah -> Hazard. Or, heck, a WC. Must…resist…

      webstar87 says:

Surely you need to wildcard if your rank is 1m+ ?!

      • inittowinit says:

That’s an interesting question actually, in so much as is there a cut off point to say ‘enough is enough’.

Just looked back, mainly because I know I had a poor start last season, and I was 714k after GW3 and still only 643k after GW5. I can’t recall panicking though and I didn’t play my first WC until Boxing Day (GW20). Funnily enough I took a hit in GW4 (must have been the IB and a ‘mini WC’) to attempt to fix stuff – and I fell 226k!

Still finished a respectable top 1k though. Point being there’s no need to panic as long as you know you’re in it for the long haul.

        • theswirly says:

That’s actually very comforting to see, Init, on the basis that is exactly my position at the moment. Shocking start, being at 750k after GW4 and so I just need to make sure I don’t make any hasty decisions. That said, I hope this season doesn’t turn out like the disastrous 2015/16 season, where I couldn’t second guess pretty much every fixture!

        • Loud Atlas says:

Thanks, Init – I’ve resisted the WC. There is hope at the end of the tunnel, but it might be a long slog 😀 .

    webstar87 says:

Also: what is Arsenal’s most likely best 11? Would it have Mkhy in it?

  6. 204
    Elleffcee says:

Well i’ve got Pickford, Stek, Stephens, Mahrez, Tomkins Miki and Wally all heading down in price. Do we think a WC is in order ?

    • 204.1
      Horse says:

Could be Elle. Who would be in your WC team?

    • 204.2
      Kralin says:

I think – please don’t quote me – that with so many wildcards in activation then price fluctuations shouldn’t be too bad (as wildcard transfers aren’t, as far as I’m aware, taken into account). So it may not be as dire as you think.

Walcott and Mkhi may tear up GW5.

      • bees323 says:

Mr K…is the lack of games next week due to African Cup of nations? Is it a good time to make two transfers ( for Haz & Alonso)? I am concerned about price rises but also can’t afford for injuries in next two weeks. What do you think?

        • Kralin says:

It’s a break for internationals. Some of those internationals may be qualifiers for the ACN.

Leave your transfers until after the press conferences for GW5.

Making transfers now is a terrible time because half your team may come back from the internationals in leg callipers, or wearing complex orthopedic casts.

        • As far as I know the AFCON is moved to summer from 2019. No more absences during the winter.
